...at the end of the day and after 3 seasons I really don’t favor using ‘almost wins’ vs. losing teams as some sort of high-water mark.

I wasn't. The point is that a 1 point loss to a team that won like 6 of 7 games shouldn't be considered a "horrible" loss or a "low-water mark" because we happened to lose two other games after that. And by the way we were underdogs for the Penn State game even though we were in 9th place at the time because the world knew that Penn State was on fire. "Horrible" loss? No. A loss.

7 days ago everyone saw real progress and seemed to be excited about the future.
