Left for dead, Rutgers comes back with a flurry and overcome an eleven point deficit to WIN! Unbelievable!!!!

Freeman was a monster out there and like the previous games everyone contributed to this great comeback win when we couldn't hit FT's and Hartford's Ross and Dunn were hitting 3's like nobody's business. Hartford nearly shot 50% from 3 point land.

Great win!!! A win is a win is a win and now we're 6-0!!!!

Something is brewing in Piscataway. I admittedly turned to game off when we were down 10 and chalked it up as a loss, which I thought would be a good thing for the team to endure. I look at the score and we're down by 2 with under 2 minutes to go, so I turn it back on and holy smokes! Rutgers wins! This DEFINITELY doesn't happen the last few years. Credit to the team for keeping their composure and fighting until the end in a game where we definitely didn't have our best.

Mike Williams 3 started it......."the run".....Gettys put in finished it!...and we played some late DEFENSE!!!!!
Rutgers 77 Hartford 75

woooooooo hooooooooooooooo
:cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2:[cheers]:cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2:

The crowd helped.

The team never gave up.

Freeman is doing his thing....

Corey is sacrificing his scoring to play "D" ...and get others involved.

And I'm thankful for the "W", for the fans, for the players...and the new coach who's helping us turn a corner.

GO SCARLET!

A win is a win.

Knew it would be closer than expected with such limited rest between games and Hartford can shoot well.

Lesson needs to be learned though, can't take any team lightly.

That was fun to watch. Not thrilled when down 11 late but hoped we had a run in us. We would have lost this game in recent years. Go RU.

What's crazy is that Hartford shot 65% from the floor and 73% from the charity stripe. And yet we picked up the defensive intensity in the final four minutes and stole this win.

Watched on ESPN3,an amazing ending, and yes Hartford can shoot. They have a shot at the NIT, I am starting to believe that.

It helps shooting if you can repeatedly get away with pussing off before your shot. I did not see the game, but I talked to someone that was there. He said that Hartford kept getting away with a stepping in an doing a hard forearm shove off and stepping back to take the 3 point shot. This may explain why we could not D-UP the 3 point shot. Did you see the same or was my friend a little off base?

Your friend was off base. Refs called a good game. We only had 13 fouls called on us and they had 21 called on them, such that we had 30 FTs to their 15 - can't complain about those stats even if a few were missed (I'm sure they were missed both ways). Also have to just give them credit for shooting lights out, even with guys in their faces often.

I was listening on the radio and Recco, at the end of the game says "Wow, wow, wow, what just happened?". Then I saw the title of the thread - I think it was everyone's reaction WOW. Two observations 1. Hartford can shoot, how the heck do they only have one win. And 2, our best five together are Sanders, Williams, Johnson, Gettys, and Freeman.

There were at least 3-4 shoulder dips into Rutgers players not called. Then one finally got called. Not saying it was bad officiating, just stating that fact, there were a few shoulder dips.

Corey with 6 steals, Freeman monster double double. Nigel playing tough defense down the stretch and a couple nice moved to the rim. And Mike, who just looked off today, hits a bigtime 3 to start it all.

Exciting game to be at.

We didn't steal anything! We took this away from their players who were getting too full of themselves, especially that Dunn guy originally from NJ. I loved hearing the announcer say the RAC was shaking the crowd was so loud.

He is overrated.

The RAC was ROCKIN. Such an amazing atmosphere today. Place is gonna be a terror for the Big Ten once we get into Big Ten play and the students pack the student section

We didn't rebound well. We missed too many free throws. We definitely didn't play good man defense against the kids that were killing us from the floor. The crowd was cuckoo-crazy in the last 3 minutes. Gettys' chip shot at the buzzer....sweet. Walking out of there felt really good.

You must have been watching a different game than me. The refs missed multiple clear calls against Hartford, especially in the second half. I'm not talking about calls that could go either way. I'm talking about clear calls like Hartford players grabbing our players' arms to keep them from going after loose balls, or landing on our players' back when going for a rebound.

The guys around me were incredulous at how inept one of the refs was.

We trailed 70-57 with I think 4:41 to play. From there on out we pressed all over the court and played tremendous going on a 20-5 run to pull out the W. As I keep saying we need some "Pikesicles". Pike also deserves a standing O when he enters the arena. These kids are exciting and working hard. I am not saying they are going to a tournament but we are light years better than last year's team. We need to make the RAC rock again. Today it was really really loud for the last 5 minutes with hardly any students there. The RAC seems to be coming back to life. This was exciting to watch.

What I saw was great ball movement and open looks for the 3. They just hit everything they threw up. The one shot that maybe was a push off was when we trapped the guard up top and the shot clock was down and he went into the defender, and jumped back, threw up a prayer and it went in.

What I saw was a team that turned up their defensive intensity and that lead to easy shots. This team has the ability, now we need to play that way for 40 minutes if we want to compete in the B1G.

It would be easy to say let's wait for the real games to begin but we need to crawl before we walk and walk before we run
.Since we have been limping for 25 years I will enjoy these early days of wine and roses.

Agree...we were getting the home screw......

Sorry, fans usually tend to only see and remember the missed calls against their team. Yes, they missed a couple of calls against Hartford, but also missed a couple of obvious calls against us. My main point was that those tend to even out and overall, anyone complaining about 21 to 13 fouls called, in our favor, is clearly looking through scarlet colored glasses.

I don't think you can just look at total number of fouls called to see if the game was called consistently or not. You actually have to look at the game and the fouls called.

But if you want to play the numbers game:

In the first half, there was 1 foul called against Rutgers vs 8 against Hartford. So, does that mean that the refs favored Rutgers in the first half. Or were the refs just calling a loose game in the first half and Hartford was more egregious with their fouls and got the calls.

In the second half, there were 12 fouls against Rutgers vs 13 for Hartford (and at the 5:30 mark, it was 10 Rutgers, 8 Hartford). So did Rutgers become more reckless in the second half, or did the refs start calling a tighter game against Rutgers while letting Hartford get away with the same, in order to avoid the foul discrepancy of the first half.

It's amazing how many of my friends (casual college BB fans) - albeit all who know I'm a Rutgers Fanatic - are getting caught up in our success to date....

I did the same but for a different reason. It was the first game I actually started watching right from the beginning and I was like I must be a freaking jinx. Then came back here later in the afternoon to see the results and lo and behold a great comeback win. Hopefully, this doesn't become a habit for this crazy superstitious sports fan.
