When were the weight classes defined, the 1850s? They don't reflect the larger bodies of the population.

1999

"In the past 45 years, the NCAA weight-class structure has remained fairly consistent, with two notable changes. In 1987, the NCAA changed what had been the unlimited weight class -- better known as heavyweight -- to impose a 275-pound upper limit, which was increased to 285 a decade later. In 1999, today's weight class structure was implemented, with competition at 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 177, 184, 197, and 285 pounds."

Good article from a few years ago :

I'm not sure I want a sport that prides itself on fitness, strength and agility to fully reflect the larger bodies of the population, although, a few pound slide upward is probably in order soon.

Meant larger frames not bodies, lol.

my Dad wrestled in the 50's in unlimited at about 185. Faced a guy that was about 6'7" 300 lbs. broke my Dad's leg in two places with a leg lock. Was his last match.

Nah he’s a depth guy only. Wish he was but think he’s proven he can’t be counted on and will never be an impact guy. I don’t say that to be mean.
Yeah, I have to agree with this. Three years ago you could say he had the potential to be a legitimate contributer, and I actually thought that coming in as a frosh. But at this point, I think what you see is what you have with him. Haven't really seen anything to make me think otherwise.

So in a nutshell how did we do? 2 titles?

2 Titles would be incredible for the program. I am not a statistician but I would bet 0 titles would be a higher probability than 2 titles. To win it all you first need the talent(obvious) and both NS and AA have that. But you need to be healthy(nobody is 100% healthy come March, but you need to be close). You need a little luck, no bad calls, no getting caught in a big move etc etc. 133 is deeper than 149 so for that I would say AA has a better chance to win it, but I am hoping both will be wrestling for the chance on Saturday night.
