I agree with your post but in my opinion refs should only be allowed to review points not penalties. Kinda like the NFL!! Keep the reviews and coaches out of it as much as possible.

I was probably a little to vague. Certain calls that are open to interpretation such as head slap (ashnault), sportsmanship, etc should not be reviewed in my opinion. NFL has certain penalties like pass interference that can't be reviewed. The opposing coaches should not be allowed to lobby for reviews on this. I love the physical style that Ash is bringing but he has to be judicious at the timing. This tournament was probably the best he has wrestled for Rutgers!!

Its pretty simple...the NC State coach was a bitch, and the ref caved to the pressure he put on him. Give me a break...running in yelling "he punched him" when he clearly didn't punch him and the guy knew that. Should have been a warning at most.

from the interview, it sounds like Gravina is really owning the program and attacking wrestling with the right focus. Having him wrestle like this has to be doing wonders for the room - physically and culturally.

Gravina came to Rutgers and became a WAY better wrestler.
That's going to pay massive dividends in recruiting big time. I think Gravina AAs this year and as a senior can be a dark horse for NC next year. 184 loses a ton of contenders next yr...Dudley, Dean, Dechow all graduate.

Bound Brook is ranked about 10 in NJ, P'burg 6 I think. BB has 3 nationally ranked kids and 5 in top 8 of NJ, but Pburg is deeper.

In addition to the two matches this weekend we have 9 wrestlers registered for the Franklin & Marshall Open Saturday, they are as follows.

133 Peter Lipari (nice to see that he is back on the mat)
133 Josh Patrick
141 Michael Van Brill
165 Dylan Painton, Brett Donner, and Tony Pafumi (haven't seen Grello since 11/6/2016)
197 Anthony Messner and Kevin Mulligan
285 Marc McDonald

As we have seen in past open's just because they are registered doesn't mean we will see them.

So much for having 9 kids registered for F&M Open, not one RU kid in the brackets. I don't understand how they could show up as registered and paid and then just not show up to wrestle. Are the kids paying for this themselves or is this money just being wasted by the program?

Yeah, I live right across the river in South Jersey. The roads are all covered down here. I'm sure the entire NE has a bunch of snow, and from what I heard the storms weren't even supposed to start until noon-ish (haven't checked the weather since yesterday).

Sounds like Dippery is retiring...maybe the weight cut really was getting to him. He can always get his degree and become one of us rabid RU wrestling fans.

That cut to 133 sounded unhealthy from the get go. Now it's Scotty D's time to shine.

I'd guess the weather is why we didn't go.
Tyson Dippery had some interesting comments on his twitter. Not sure what it all means. He seems like a great kid.

He says he's not cutting to 133 anymore because it isn't healthy. I commend him because he's right. :clap:There's life after wrestling.

For those of you having withdrawal with no Ru wrestling today, IF you have BTN Plus All Conference Subscription there is a lot of Wrestling action going on . The best matchup is at 3pm
#3 Penn St vs #5 Nebraska (Intermat Dual rankings).
While Penn St should win fairly easy there are some awesome matchups to keep your eyes on :

125- #3 Nick Suriano PSU/Bergen C v #5 Tim Lambert
133- #13 Jered Cortez vs #3 Eric Montoya
141- # 12 Jim Gulibon vs # 13 Colton McCrystal
157- #1 Jason Nolf vs #3 Tyler Berger
184 #2 Bo Nickal vs # 3 TJ Dudley
285- #4 Nick Nevills vs #15 Colin Jensen

Also Iowa vs Mich St at 1pm.
Illinois v Maryland just finished
Illinois v Navy starting around 1
Northwestern v Purdue 3p

Iowa just beat Mich St 44-0 . In the 285 match the MSU heavy had 6 stall calls against him, before they awarded the match to Stoll of Iowa for 6 team points. That was one sad showing by MSU.

Big match between Penn St and Nebraska coming up

They have been OK. Getting better but still adjusting to the change from hs to college wrestling. They will be fine.

WNG and others, what have you guys seen out of Grello and Donner this year when healthy?

Freshman make their biggest jump between their 1st and 2nd year. They spend that 1st year getting beat up(mostly having big time trouble from bottom) and as long as they have the work ethic and hate to lose they will get so much better. RU has done a great job of bringing in kids that like to scrap and work hard, those type of kids are what a program needs. Don't know what Grello's injuries are, he might be behind in his development because of them, but he will get up to speed.

That's why I fully expect Paetzall and Mulligan to really blow up at 125 and 197 next year.

You also could make that argument for RU upon joining the B1G as a team. In their first year they went 2-7 in B1G duals and 11th in the tourney. Last year they went 5-4 in Year 2 of the B1G and 5th in the tourney. Year 3 after the Illinois win we could finish 6-3 or maybe even 7-2 if they can knock off Michigan on the road.

Iowa’s Thomas Gilman didn’t hold back when asked about the characteristics he can expect from an Oklahoma State opponent when the third-ranked Hawkeyes travel to Stillwater, Okla., to face the top-ranked Cowboys on Sunday.

“Stalling,” said Gilman, who is top-ranked at 125 and will have No. 12 Nick Puccininni. “They have a small mat down there. They don’t like to wrestle hard. They’ll fool you. They’ll say they want to wrestle hard … they want to play the edge and run around. They like to dance around and grab and twist your ankle.

“You’ve got to grab a hold of guys like that that dance around. You have to throw them down hard.”

Iowa has three straight victories over Oklahoma State, winning last season’s “Grapple on the Gridiron” at Kinnick Stadium and beating the Cowboys 30-7 two years ago in Stillwater. The Hawkeyes have also won 21 straight road duals.

Gilman said he doesn’t focus on the rivalry and history.

“We’re going to go down there,” Gilman said. “We’re going to invade them. We’re going to kick the crap out of them and that’s going to be that. We’ve done that ever since I’ve been here.”
