I wonder if you and some others actually watch matches or you just check box scores and listen to internet chatter. Joseph was in complete control of Massa 2 takedowns to none and Massa wasn’t getting close to Joseph legs. Massa figures he has to change it up and go upper body and Joseph flattens him. It wasn’t a close match score wise or even if you didn’t see final score.
I would agree. Watching the match again validates your point. I thought Massa showed a lot of heart, as did many UM wrestlers in that match, but Joseph was in total control and put the exclamation point(s) on at the end. I expect Rutgers will show the same effort today and the crowd will be more electric than PSU@Michigan, but the talent gap is far greater between PSU and Rutgers than it was v. UM.

I don’t think a less than 100% Massa is a good measuring stick for where Marinelli ends up this year. Marinelli is tough, strong, stingy, likes to wrestle in tie ups/in close space and doesn’t take a lot of risk. He can place high at NCAA’s this year but I think will get roughed up by strong guys like Imar that force you to open up. Marinelli is not a good match up for Richie who is not a high volume attacker. Plays right into Marinelli’s style. After watching Vincenzo’s last few matches I think he is a better match up style wise for Richie. Vincenzo attacks and lets it fly. It will be a great test to see where Richie is against the best. I hope he is aggressive on his feet. He has to be careful on his blast double as Vincenzo is terrific with a counter to a bear hug/ inside trip, though. Also hope Delvecchio comes out aggressive early. Should be fun.

Rider beats Lock Haven 22-12

Marsteller beats Walsh 8-4
Dippery beats Shoop 7-1

This doesn’t look great. We shouldn’t be worse than Rider in any year, but they are better than us this year. Our future also looking uncertain with the last couple recruiting classes not living up to the hype. Also not a good look that Dippery is wrestling really well since he left. We sure could’ve used him

So let me get this straight. Lewis lost twice to Maranelli. Maranelli beats Massa by a point, Joseph beat Massa by 9. But Lewis will beat Joseph?

Can’t wait to come back to this after the match
Listen, this is another great win for the bull over a AA. All I'm saying is this fresh is no slouch and that Lewis vs Joseph should be a good competitive match... your mind started doing mental gymnastics and made up the other logic

Oh ok...my bad... I just figured since he was down by 2 that if Massa had gotten the TD, he woulda tied the match... Guess it doesn' work that way vs PSU wrestlers...

Free fall? Massa worst loss was to Wick (who owns a win over Wanzek btw) Massa vs Joseph was way closer than final score indicated (2 pt match until last 30 sec when Massa tried a throw) Its a very good win for Marinelli...

Massa is at either 3 or 4 consecutive losses. Yes, free fall.

Anthony Ashnault was healthy at 141 when Dip decided to transfer. Dip couldn't make weight at 133 anymore and didn't want to watch Ash wrestle during his Senior year. Just unfortunate timing for Rutgers.

Rutgers will outscore Rider in the NCAA Tournament.

In other news, NY now has 2 RTCs, as Cornell's FLWC is now the NY RTC & Columbia & The Edge Hoboken partnered to form NYC RTC (Olympic champ Kendall Cross joined Columbia as the coach for the NYC RTC):

I'm happy to see Dip doing well at Rider. Had he known Ash would be out this year, he would have stayed at RU. He absolutely did everything to wrestle at RU - go up a weight, go down a weight, wait his turn... I wish him nothing but the best - hope he places in top 8 this year at the nationals!

And with our Rutgers luck, he probably will go on a magic run and get that top 8 finish.

So...Kanen Storr issued a blistering statement about leaving ISU and called Dresser (and staff) a liar, toxic and unethical:

https://iawrestle.com/2018/02/01/kanen-storr-issues-statement-about-release/

Said he left because he felt unsafe after Metcalf put his hands on him and pushed him after a match. Also said that they tried to take away his schollie after forcing him to leave. If this story is true, then I wonder if he'd get some type of waiver for a 5th yr to compete.

This kid is getting bad advice...

Kid keeps digging hole deeper, has been caught in a few 'untruths' already. His credibility is just about shot and now he tried to get a 1 sided story out through the media which is about the stupidest thing you can do. Kid is getting bad advice

What is untrue what Storr said and how would anyone know? The way I see it was the school and coaches put out a one sided story and that was his rebuttal. I have know idea who’s telling the truth but would love to know his lies reported in Storr’s letter.

The one coach to be distrusted the most is the former head coach at Virginia Tech and current head coach at Iowa State. His track record extends longer that the former 141lber at ISU has wrestled in his life.

What is our projected starting line up next year? Of the recruits were bringing in who should be an impact starter day 1?

Some early guess work:

125 Suriano
133 Firestone
141 Ashnault (assuming he gets the extra year)
149 MVB
157 JVB
165 Pagano??
174 Grello
184 Gravina
197 ?? Maybe Lightner
Hvy Correnti

Glasgow if he enrolls could be the big impact and may slot in at 157/165. Also, Janzer looks like a potential stud but I think he will red-shirt and take over for Gravina at 184 the following year. I think the other incoming guys will red-shirt/be depth. Lightner may be forced into 197 depending upon Mulligan. Again, it is early and we don't know the status of a couple of guys.

Interesting. Curious how this plays out.

how likely is it that gravina will be back?

Hope Gravina does what is right for him.
Would love to see him wrestle another year, but don't want his shoulder to get worse for the rest of his life.

Marinelli takes out Joseph 9-6. Iowa up 13-9 going into 174 match.
Richie went toe-to-toe with these guys. Let's see what he does in the B1G tourney/NCAAs. I'm cautiously optimistic. He is super quick, which can work to his advantage, but I just don't know if he has the strength of Marinelli or Joseph.

I know it is probably not this simple but I assumed when RL decided to go to 165 he would just live in the weight room and add 5 pounds of muscle prior to the bigs.
