There are no quick fixes to building a program to be competitive with Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
The biggest difference between them and us is MONEY. They have it, and we don’t. Money buys the best coaching staffs and the best facilities.
And this is why we are mostly relying on recruiting 2* and 3* players and trying to develop them into 4* and 5* performers.
So naturally, it’s going to take longer. If anyone wants to accelerate the process, feel free to write a big check. We can use it to recruit our WR stud for next year.
Sometimes our recruiting works out, as Powell, Melton, and many others have developed nicely. Many times it doesn’t, as we don’t have enough talent on the offensive side of the ball to be competitive with better Big Ten teams.
Thankfully we are competitive with everyone else, which is a far cry from where we were not too long ago, like last year. Our coaching staff is now competitive with everyone else’s. But Our facilities need to be improved if we are to upgrade our recruiting.
Our game with Maryland will be more competitive than last years wipeout, but we are still at a huge facilities disadvantage, which is why they have better talent, most notably, their quarterback will be playing Sundays. This is the biggest reason they’ve left us in the dust in recent years, imo.
But they are not very disciplined, so we will have a shot.
No matter what happens Saturday, this season has been a resounding success, especially considering where we’ve come from.
- we’re bowling for the first time since ‘14, which is a huge milestone.
- we won 6 games, 4 of which came against P5 programs
- we have three victories against Big Ten Teams
- we played competitively with the Big Ten elite, until the fourth quarter
- we’re bringing in a great class which will bolster our offense
There’s no doubt in my mind that we are on the right track. Now it’s just a matter of time before we get to where we want to be. Patience is required.
