As fanbase we have not, do not, and will like not give enough to demand change. Period!! This program does not have the luxury of firing a head coach midseason. We cannot hire a big name at the drop of a hat. This will all take time. That is the long and short (mostly long) of it.

I don't want to hear about the money we give to gain our priority points. I don't want to hear about the handful of us that give 4 and 5 figures. As a base, we don't do enough.

Blamw Julie. Blame Flood. Blame whomever you want. But money talks, and we lack a voice. Pay up or shut up. Harsh truth, but truth nonetheless.

If the past is any indicator, this is the only change we will likely see:

"This program does not have the luxury of firing a head coach midseason."

Actually, the program does not have the luxury of sticking with the current coaching staff. If Rutgers doesn't want to invest in the program, there's little the fans can do. I'll support the gofundme campaign, but there are far more reasons to make a move than NOT make a move. RU needs to recognize this.

That literally makes no sense. Private money rules. If you think otherwise, you're completely lost.

I challenge everyone to make it start with themselves. Make it a commitment to set up multiple donations, as if it were simply part of your monthly bills.

If you take care of your end, above and beyond a simple $25 or $50 one time donation, then the numbers will begin to show itself... Don't wait for others to act after you've done so once.

Be careful what you wish for. I was a season ticket holder during the Shea years when I and 12K of my closest friends used to watch Rutgers. The rest of the state was apathetic about a non competitive team. All the people you want to 'shut up' are paying 55 bones a game, plus parking, plus donations. They may just 'shut up' and do something else with their time and money.

This message is for those committed enough to understand that it takes more than tickets and parking. Every team has season tickets holders, every team has tag holders. I know exactly what I'm wishing for.

Rutgers doesn't fire coaches mid-season for on-field performance. Haven't/don't/won't.

all the foot-pounding and $1 donations in the world won't change that

I would expect a review at the end of the season. To expect immediate change because tOSU and Michigan gave us a wedgie and stole our lunch money is fantasy.

Fact is, the final 3 games will determine the season. Ever since we lost to WSU - the final 3 games were always going to determine the season (it was simple math and the reality of how this team plays vs top20 competition).

This is ridiculous. If I donate say $300, which is a lot for me, do you really think it will make a difference ?

Exactly!

The amount of surprise around here about these two simple facts is astounding.

It's not ridiculous. And, no, it alone will not make a difference. But complaining about our situation is not something a $300 donor is positioned to do (not speaking to you specifically).

I'd pony up $2K tomorrow IF I knew it would be invested properly in a solid coach and staff. Based on over 30 years' experience it won't be. RU will get my $$$$ in arears after the right coach is hired.

Give money to who, exactly?

There is no disputing this. The problem is if RU wins the last three games the powers that be will rationalize going on with this staff yet if RU loses the last three RU will miraculously find cause and the money to get a new coach which is bullsh*t. The RU program found resources to retain Schiano when Mich and Miami threw money and the head coaching position his way and RU prevailed. RU is in the big leagues now and we need to act like it and not settle for just participating.

GO RU

what's funny is people who think this campaign is a failure because it only has 80+ supporters in 24 hours. It was launched on a weekend and media reports are just starting to take place. If there's less than a few hundred supporters by the end of the week, I'd be surprised.

Hopefully, there will be a few thousand by the end of the season.

So your saying my wife and I who donate in the low four figures and then it's matched by BMS should stop donating because we aren't doing enough. OK then I'll take my money and go on vacation. Thanks for the advice see you in the Bahamas. On second thought maybe you should be encouraging those who give instead of telling them they don't do enough. Way to alienate a fan base good job OP. Stupidest post I've seen on the subject yet. Congratulations.

All this is really on the money.
One question: What is a wedgie ?

Because only rich people should have a say over the coach, just like in politics. I can't believe how many people are content to watch the super wealthy call all the shots in their lives. FYI they don't have your interests in mind.

Here's a novel idea...now stay with me on this...the school could actually pay the coach & a lot of $ at that, ya know, like every other school. Or we could continue to be cheap & not invest in winning. I'm guessing our BOGs opts for the latter so buckle up its gonna be a fun crappy ride, as usual.

I think this is the problem. RU has no history or tradition of success in athletics for the most part (and especially in football). But it's not just lack of success, it's one ridiculous dumpster fire after another. The admin makes up bogus excuses to fire coaches, then hires on the cheap. The results speak for themselves. There was a period of hope when Schiano brought RU up from the ashes to a level of competence, but that wasn't a long enough period to change perception...and we're slipping back toward those pre-Schiano days.

I know it's easy to put the blame on the fans and alumni for not giving enough, but there is a lot of history to overcome. Unfortunately, I think it's going to have to come from above, meaning RU and big donors will have to get this thing going in the right direction again and create hope. I can't really blame the average fan for not trusting that RU will put their money to good use.

Donate $33

Just donate 33 (1 for each point we lost by). I plan to do that until the end of the year.

Hey, another its the fan's fault post. Its so ridiculous. The fans have supported this program way more than it has delivered. Donations are at an all time high. The normal fan simply can't donate what we need to compete. The life blood of any program are the big donors. Always has been, always will.

The argument that the regular fans don't give enough is just ludicrous. We have fans that make minimum wage, 20k, 30k, some on Social Security, yes I am sure we have some that make 100k, 200k and more, but even some of them, how much do you think they can donate more than they do already?

There is blame to go around, but blaming fans who support the program, go to games, buy tickets, and donate is just silly.

Please let us know what you make and how much you give so we can understand what we should all be doing.

As a donor, I find the OP and his subsequent replies very offensive. Who are you to tell others what to think or say? Who are you to say that what people donate is not enough?

Im not attacking our donors. But the sweeping change demanded by this fanbase are not possible in our current economic situation. It's unrealistic to think that coach would be gone at this juncture and that a big name will be scooped up. It's also embarrassing to have a gofundme where 80 people have raised under 5K. What are we, we high school program? Sure, it draws attention to the fact that we're unhappy but it also highlights the point that we're incapable of ponying up the $ to do something about it TODAY.

People's expectations are out of touch with reality. The challenge will be, for the foreseeable future, getting the financial backing demonstrated at programs we aim to emulate. I'd you're offended, that's on you. All donations matter, of course.
