Zagoria says RU has reached out to Shaheen Holloway & Kenny Payne

I know Holloway is a Jersey guy and long time NJ assistant....but, has there ever been any buzz about him being an up and coming future Head Coach ?

i would really prefer someone with HC experience. The FHJ experiment was painful.

If they are looking at young guys, I would take a guy like Bashir Mason over Holloway. His Wagner team had a nice win over SBU.

I'm not familiar with Bashir Mason, but, he seems to fit the young and hungry theme....but, going from Wagner to Rutgers is a big jump

Not clear to me that shaheen gets any credit for the class that came with tiny. And now with Fred hill being there who knows which guy is more effective recruiting.

Kenny Payne is making $700,000 in Kentucky. $1.5 million in NYC/NJ is close to a lateral move.
Yea but it's a head job. So he'd likely move regardless of salary. I've seen coaches including Dooley turn down offers to increase their salary to go back to assistant roles so I think most guys want to be head coaches even at a reduced salary in some cases.

People like Payne but how has the Calipari tree fared when these guys go out on their own. Pastner seems to be the only one I can think of and he was an internal promotion. Looks like the farther and farther he gets from Calipari and the step up in conference now the worse he's getting. Anyone else though besides him.

I like Dooley but I was trying to think of coaches off the Self tree and the best I could think of was Norm Roberts so not a ringing endorsement either. But at least in Dooley's case he wouldn't be a first time HC and we've seen some of what he can do rather than just a blind shot in the dark.

I really think it all depends on what type of experience. I think experience hurts if it is like Pikiel where he has been a Stony brook for a long time and is coaching in an environment which is much different than at RU. I worry about adapting when someone has done something for so long.

I'm warming up to Payne or Dawkins, would be generally well received, good resumes. Not into Holloway, Cluess or Pikiell.

Kenny Payne has done nothing. Any posted on this board could recruit at Kentucky. Run away.
