NIL, what's the best course of action to remedy this?

The DOJ position is likely to change after Trump becomes President at noon on Monday. At that point, DOJ's leadership will change and so will DOJ's policies. The DOJ could bring an action of its own against the NCAA, but I doubt that will happen.

For the time being, Judge Claudia Wilken, the judge in the House case, is pretty much the commissioner of college sports. She is the one with the power to approve the out-of-court settlement or to force changes. She has already forced it to be changed to be more permissive of NIL agreements between athletes and third parties (persons other than the schools). Once it's approved, all changes will have to go through her. That will continue to be the case unless Congress acts or unless the athletes are allowed to unionize and to negotiate a collective barganing agreement.

Judge Wilken graduated my law school a year before I did, but I do not remember ever meeting her.

Last night was our worst defensive night since November 16, 2019.....but

Well, the worst points allowed per possession.... I think the results of that game were pretty good :)

I will happily have a terrible points-allowed-per-possession the rest of the season if we win every game between now and April 7th

Well yeah if we give up a shitload of points and score two shitloads of points I will be perfectly happy but I won’t call it good defense lol

OT: Gymnastics investigation update

Rutgers never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity

Not really. The investigation proves there was a greater cover-up & Hobbs was guilty of so many improprieties.
It also gives Credence to the gymnastics team complaints which is what started this whole investigation to begin with.
This is all correct . But really why do the football fans here care at this point ? Hobbs is gone and I doubt any of us here even knew anything about this gymnastics team before August 2024

Seems like a waste of 700k. I do wonder how this gymnastics coach has to take a leave or will get any discipline. Seems like she has the easiest sexual harassment claim in history if she wants to file suit

Dylan Grant !!!!

Grant is a "3 and D guy"... but the "D" stands for Determination, Dedication, and Drive.

He's night and day better than he was in the early months of this season, and that's a testament to his Desire (another D!) to improve. Most freshmen aren't immediate impact guys and need some time to bake... he's definitely improved in a lot of areas, and I'm hoping that learning curve continues to progress as he gets more minutes against top level opposition.

Big upside if he can continue to improve defense and rebounding.

Sommerville also has a big upside, and also needs to improve his defense and rebounding.

The team is starting to gel as guys are getting more used to playing with/for each other - and that should help make both of these guys better as all boats rise.

OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

They already offered him above market and he doesn’t want it. That’s obvious since no one is offering him more. He’s a slow, declining untahletic, 30 year old right-handed first basemen. People like him because he hits a lot of home runs (I’m not underestimating this) and because he’s a goofball. Perhaps they can’t replace him at this point since the Mets waited so long and most options are gone. However, they’ve made more than fair offers to him before and he’s turned them down. At what point do you say screw it. They would be idiots to offer him more than 3 years, but it’s not my money.

Anyway, Bregman has a higher WAR, a way better glove, but is also declining….if they wanted to move Vientos to first…or shoot for the stars and try to get Vlady.

Like I said, I’d like to get him for 1-3 years but I think the Mets have treated him fairly, so it might be time to move on.

I’m also not saying the lineup is good right now, even with Alonso. In fact, although they caught lightning in a bottle and reached the NLCS, I’d be surprised they could repeat that even with Alonso, especially with the current pitching situation. I think they a still a few pieces and a couple of years away anyway. Money is no object and I believe they will get there.
Very rarely is this kind of build completed in 1 season. If they're gonna move on from Pete, they might as well wait for the right first baseman instead of throwing money around for the sake of doing it. I still think they should have signed him at 3 years at whatever price point, but if Vlad is truly an option then they shouldn't.

OT: Gymnastics investigation update

So Rutgers. Just when the team is 8-1, we have to knock it down.

I thought the entire world stopped caring about this in September.

Really wringing out a rock on this thing.

It’s the worst results. That doesn’t necessarily imply it’s the worst execution (RUDivision will tell you otherwise).

OT: Cold and Potentially Snowy Pattern Likely for Most of January

I guess yesterday really did overperform, lol. Those NWS maps are "live," defaulting to the most recent version anywhere it's been poste as a link to the NWS page, which is why I've had to go to imgur to host all the graphics I post, as they're actual picture files not hot links. It's annoying.
yet not sure why they do that even if its posted already
