RAPID REACTION - Merrimack

We won, but did not dominate even though Merrimack shot poorly from the 3. If their 3s started dropping with any regularity the results could have been different. Was shocked to see how Clark could take it to Davis. Clark kept Merrimack in the game with both his shooting and assists. However we had Ace and Dylan who were by far our 2 best players (big surprise). Ace was particularly efficient offensively with 20 points scored and 10 rebounds.

What can I say, I like dogs. 😀

Another trend I’m trying to set is sandals with socks. It’s dead sexy. I’ll admit it’s not really impressing the ladies so far, but I keep trying different socks to see what combo works best. I have some neon green and Halloween orange socks that seem promising when combined with black Teva sandals.
Try tie-dyed socks. peacock the foots, dude!

RAPID REACTION - Merrimack

Was a little concerned midway through the 2nd half with our offense struggling. And I'm wondering, "shouldn't Bailey be able to beat a team like Merrimack all by himself?" and then late in the game he took over.

I think that could have been the case from the jump, but Pike was trying to get everyone else in the flow.

Not going to go overboard negative after a double digit win.

JWill, Derkack and JMike are far too redundant as far as skill sets and abilities: none are good shooters and they are all supposed to be plus defenders. We don’t need to play all three of them. Cut one out of the rotation, why do we need to play 3 defensive specialists (NONE OF WHOM IS OFFERING GREAT DEFENSE CURRENTLY BTW) who can’t do much offensively? Doesn’t make sense, just play Derkack and JWill.
Agree. Davis no value. A PG who can’t shoot, pass or defend….

UMASS coach's wife blasts away

Perhaps the point is.. why bother firing the guy if the school has never cared about football?

Remember when Rutgers was known as a coaches graveyard so we couldn't really hire anyone who stood a chance?

That's where UMASS is. Who can they get to take that job? They have to get really lucky.

Hmm.. maybe there's a tech or bitcoin billionaire out there who always fancied himself a football coach. "hire" him... he'll fund the NIL himself... whoever he is.

Was an usher coaching tonight? There were so many coaching crimes tonight it wasnt funny.

It looked like we had no plan with the zone offense. It's like Pike said "I'm gonna let you guys try figure out how to beat a zone".

Why in the world are we passing to EO in the post and why is he trying to post up? Unreal.

LS thinks he is still on his high school team. We don't need most of those attempts from him. Does the staff coach anyone on good and not-so-good attempts?

Did we have a couple of hard practices this week? Dead legs tonight? Our finishing within 6 feet was BRUTAL tonight. Everyone seemed off and most were not strong to the basket.

I really like Derkack and Williams but Derkack tried to do too much against his former team and I'm still waiting for Williams to be efficient on offense. Williams can't get stripped on that last shot attempt. I hope the staff coaches him up on that.

I just don't see how Davis gets minutes this year, especially if you have Williams coming off the bench (which I think is smart).

We are going struggle defensively. I hope Pike can accept this and spend some time making us more efficient on offense.
Davis was nearly unplayable. Embarrassed by his man every time and only scored 1 bucket. Acuff hasn’t shown much but should play more than Davis. Bigger and can hit a jumper or two. Davis has no game.

As Rutgers punches bowl bid, Greg Schiano earns bonus: Here’s how much

Let me present your logic back to you...... you're not fine with mid-tier bowls and want better......and the action you've claimed to take is reducing your donations towards football. How exactly do you think that will help getting RU on a path towards better bowls....or even better....your obvious goal of replacing Schiano?

I swear Its like talking to a block head middle schooler wanna be tough guy. The problem here is that you're too fvcking stupid to even understand what you posted and why it's both illogical and hypocritical.
Let me slow this down for you - JD will do it in a way where the sane ones will understand, whereas those who claim insanity, regardless of how many times I repeat the same mantra, may still be confused:

1. I’m doing my part by donating to the football program

2. I don’t believe that Schiano is the answer

3. Hence, I’m not donating what I usually would because I feel that is money that would be wasted

If I felt that Greg was the guy to make us Elite, my original donation would have stayed the same or likely increased

However, although I like Greg, and think he’s a great role model for young men and appreciate everything he has done for the program, I do not believe he is the guy to get us to the championship level

Thus, due to my beliefs, and although I am still donating to the football program,I’m not going to donate what I used to donate, or anymore on top of that, because I don’t believe that said donation would get us to the elite level that I believe we can be at due to Greg‘s deficiencies

OT: Kennesaw State

KSU has a couple of talented guards. Adrian Wooley was the C-USA freshman of the week earlier this season, and Simeon Cottle is the veteran who has scored 20+ three times this season. Their signing class last year was #27 in the country after the early signing period because they signed five 3* players that I'm sure will be eager to see how they compare with our freshman class.
Any opponent that makes at least 10 three pointers will give Rutgers trouble.More shots from Martini and Hayes are needed against tough competition.

Your points 3 and 4 were on point . I thought O played as well as he could but he was still bad. If you’re the D, you’ll take him getting post ups all day. How do we not get our best 3 shooters more minutes and more looks. Did we even try to run a set play for any of them? How about putting Ace more in the dunker spot. How about playing smaller with Martini at the 5? I would have put Harper at the high post and let him catch and drive right at the D. Big O just clogging up the lane. At least let him come up and set some screens
How about Dylan attack from the wing

Basketball No. 24 Rutgers Basketball fends off Merrimack 74-63

RU fans need defensive effort to get into the game, it’s a different brand of basketball than what Pike has had this team playing in the past.
Its rather apparent that this team has great difficulty playing man to man defense even against mediocre opponents. The few times Rutgers played a zone defense Merrimack had trouble getting open shots.Pikiell better seriously consider playing more zone defense because the higher level of competition in future games will easily score against Rutgers man to man defense. There is no evidence in defensive improvement and the substitution patterns at times lacked having 3 point shooters on the court.

Zone Offense

Poor defense and a poor offensive strategy against the zone most of the night. RU guards fell in love with their dribble which is not the way to beat the zone. It’s not just about taking more threes. The way to attack the Merrimack zone was flashing a player to the high post with Ace running the baseline. He either gets a three or a dunk when the zone reacts to the high post. The first couple possessions of the second half RU did exactly that with Derkak flashing to the high post and making a great pass to Ace for an openthree and then to the low post to the 5 for an easy shot. So clearly Pike knew the correct strategy, but the players did not execute it except for the first couple plays out of the locker room.
