OT: RIP Bernie Marcus

Bottom line, he was one of the most financially successful alums of Rutgers, whether it be NB or Newark. Created a lot of financial wealth for his workers and for the US economy. Did he donate to RU athletics like many successful alums of schools like ND, Mich, Bama, etc? No. That was never his priority. He did give away massive amounts to make life better for many people and to advance society. A life well lived. Some people on this thread are incredibly petty and borderline ignorant. A jerk? What the hell is wrong with you?

You mean they can't dictate where one makes their charitable contributions? Hey, screw medical centers, medical research and aquariums. Beyond petty and ignorant.

Syracuse targeting Jersey players

I was pointing out the present recruiting efforts for the 2025 class. That's not the past. That's now.
And, of course, these recruits can't sign on the dotted line yet....so their recruiting is still going on. Check with Chase Linton on that.
And I was pointing out that the ‘25 class is mostly done. We’re not battling Syracuse for any ‘25 recruits, as far as I know.

POLL: You have to give to give $1M to RU NIL or to GS buyout

We regularly play Penn State and Maryland. We don’t regularly play Syracuse and Boston College. We need better players to compete with Maryland and Penn State, so how do we do that? They haven’t only beaten us, they’ve killed us most of the last 10 years. It’s embarrassing.
Al peers are what you are relatively equal to, playing Penn St makes them an opponent , not an equal.
Also in the NJ/PA recruiting area, PSU has a big edge when pulling in HS talent over the years.
Not peers in that department when going after and grabbing the top talent is concerned .
BC and Syracuse are more like peers to RU than PSU is.
Rutgers was in the same division as OSU,that doesn't make them peers of Rutgers, just opponents plsaying in the same division.
Chances of RU beating another program must be relitivle equal to the chances of the other program winning for them to be considered peers , right now and in the past the chances of Rutgers beating Penn State are very small while the chances pf PSU beating RU are very large and closer to the cupcake designation than that of a peer
Since Rutgers joined the Big Ten in 2014, Penn State has won every game against Rutgers .
Penn State has won the last eight meetings by an average of 27 points.
As for recruiting , I belive Penn State has a big edge when both the Nits and RU are going after top
( 4-5*)HS talent in the NJ/PA area
Going after the same 3* players, maybe could be considered peers

Rutgers is 3-7 against the Turtles since both programs joind the B1G and usally Rutgers is considered to have a chance to win the game, that makes them a peer.
As for recruitring the same players , I feel both programs have a good chance to get the kid when the cjopce comes down to commiting to ne a Scarlet Knight or a Terrapin.

Do we need a new major gifts staff?

With the president and AD position open, and our troubles in NIL and athletics fundraising at the forefront of our programs future prospects, it makes a lot of sense that our next AD will themselves be strong suited in fundraising and development (amongst other things).

With that said, is that the time to revamp our major gifts staff? Can we afford to wait that long and could the interim AD make those changes now in an effort to keep us from stalling out for a year and maintain his position when a new AD arrives?

This is what Richie had to say on all Rutgers people trying to raise money:

“Everyone is trying to raise funds for Rutgers, the coaches, the collectives, etc. It’s just very difficult to get them to open their pockets. I’ll see what I can do.”

Basketball GAMEDAY THREAD: Rutgers Basketball versus Wagner

1. I am pretty sure he (Mag) held out last year
2. I am saying there is a small chance Ace is holding out. When a coach says a team is healthy and then a player sits out I would think that could raise a warning flag.

The super doomsday speculation is that he’s owed money that hasn’t come through. Like that UNLV QB

Why is that kid in New Jersey 2025 rankings if he's playing in Maryland this season per his Rivals bio?

In any event, Syracuse has 30 verbals for 2025 of which 2 at most are from Jersey. Is Al actually worried about recruiting for their class of 2026 after playing this 2025 schedule??? LOL

2025
Aug. 30 vs. Tennessee *
Sept. 27 vs. Army West Point
TBD vs. UConn
TBD at Notre Dame

* Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, Ga.

ACC home games: Boston College, Pitt, Duke, North Carolina
ACC away games: Clemson, Miami, Georgia Tech, SMU
They’ll be recruiting 2026 based off this years results. The class will be mostly complete by August.

Syracuse targeting Jersey players

Every school creates graphics for recruiting and many times it involves geographic areas they are concentrating. Remember Miami doing this when they were hot in NJ. Recently Penn State and Michigan created ads and social media posts pointing out recruiting priorities heading to Ann Arbor and state college from NJ.

To say Fran Brown learned this from Schiano is crazy. Been going on since the 80’s in various forms.
This is the first time I’ve seen Syracuse initiate a social media campaign for Jersey Recruits. Haven’t seen it before.
