OT: Dry January

It's been around since 2012 by a woman in England who was training for a half marathon. By the next January it grew to 4000 of registered people and has grown dramatically since worldwide.
Funny that anyone hasn't heard of it especially since the pandemic.
It’s actually a good time of year to do this .
Might be the only time for me lol

If I ever come to a @WhiteBus tailgate and I am served an alcohol free beer , I will feel slighted !! 😆

OT: Dry January

Same here after turning 17. Frugality and alcohol abstinence are perfect together.
I drank a little when I was younger (early 20s) and friends tried to get me to try this or that but I never liked the taste or could get over the bitterness of it so that was that. I haven’t drank since.

My family in England on the other hand for them it’s a way of life lol. Great social thing for them and they grew up that way too.

I have read among GenZ and maybe millennials to a degree alcohol isn’t so popular and non alcoholic drinks are a growing thing in that demographic.

NIL killed college hoops its now professional hoops

Hunter Dickinson said he was making less than six figures at Michigan before he transferred to Kansas. There will always be more money in transferring than in staying put (just as it is in the corporate world), and the transfer rules changes make it incredibly easy to jump from team to team.
100%. Things need to be fixed for sure on both sides.

My point is what you said. We are making too much of NIL for the standard player. Yes, normally you get a raise when you change jobs. But that is for the top players at top programs. PJ Hayes, Jordan Derkack, and Zach Martini are not making significant income here.

Geo's game regressed the last couple of years but it did develop from where he started. The statistics show that. I would put JY on that list and a few others. EO was another. Did they reach their potential is the question. 9I don't know just suggesting that is the real measurement and it belongs to player too).
We should have gone deep into the tournament for 3 years

OT: Dry January

I don't drink any non-alcohol "beers" however non-alcohol beers have improved dramatically in the last 5 years. New technology to remove alcohol especially by vacuum evaporation and filtration. So forget about O'Doul's and try anything from Athletic Brewery (leading the market by far in the East Coast) or try two 0.0 entries that are raved about. Both Guinness and Heineken are the top of that category.
Non-alcohol beers have grown at a rapid rate since the pandemic!
VERY surprised how good that one tastes.

Have also heard good things about the Heineken one but haven't tried it yet.

Couple of thoughts. 1) 9.5 seems like too many points. ND can match the Buckeyes physically and they're stout in the secondary. 2) If ND wins it will mean they owned the Big Ten in the playoffs - Indiana, PSU, and OSU (who beat Oregon). And considering they also went through UGA the SEC champ that's an awful impressive road. If it happens of course.
I think it would've been a tough road for either winner. OSU would have had to be Tenn (a strong SEC team and defense despite what happened), Texas and a good ND team. I don't think you could say either team had an easy road or was undeserving.

I'd guess ND will try to do the same thing on defense Texas did and Michigan from what I've read (didn't see much of that game).

I think Geo and Harper, Jr might disagree

I do strongly feel that 85% of our roster is making less than 75,000 from NIL/year. I would give that number. The big money in NIL goes to 5% of D1. That is a gut feeling. I just think its way overblown.

Without Connor Stalions, Harbaugh is compromised. Funny X post by Nicole A.

She made similar comments about the Steelers game. Shocker, blowouts happen in the NFL too lol...and of course in all sports. Why is CFB held to some crazy level where a blowout shouldn't happen.

You also will get games like we had in the semis and ASU/Texas.

I feel like we've gotten closer games since NIL/portal. Last 3 years for sure in the semis we've had 6 good games. Champ games not so much. But the probability of having a closer gap or more evenly matched teams has gone up since NIL/portal and so the probability of close game also goes up.

The Sad Truth

My bet is that Pike will shift his approach next year big league. He will finally bend to the portal and bring in ‘his’ type of player. Our lack of D and rebounding is killings us and he damn well knows it. It’s just not fixable in time for this year. He needs a year or more to teach it and our two superstar fresh won’t adjust in time. The NBA will complete that job.

Corey Hetherman to Miami as DC

Same here and I'm sure we missed him but the injuries had a much bigger impact than his departure. In 2023 we had 3 guys who are considered high level DC's if you count Schiano. All high energy guys who got the D fired up too. But it's hard to get a guy playing hurt to get too fired up and play "violent" every snap. Much easier when everyone is healthy. Plus we had a lot of missed assignments this year with new guys forced into action.

Based on the recruiting class and the portal additions I'm guessing recruits are buying in on the Defensive side of the ball.
Injuries played a part in it, but if you dig deep, the style and the way the defense was called were not the same. Hetherman was much more aggressive than Harasymiak, and I'm not talking strictly blitzing. Hetherman was aggressive in taking away what teams wanted to do on offense, while Harasymiak played a more read-and-react style. Harasymiak gave up plays in the flats because he was more concerned with getting beat deep. Hetherman didn't want to get beat deep either, but the minute the ball was in the air to a receiver in the flat area, the corners rallied quickly to keep gains to a minimum. How often did you see a simple play in the flat turn into a 40 gain under Harasymiak's leadership? I think Hetherman held the players more accountable. Therefore, guys played at a higher level. How else do you explain a player like Igbinosun who looked like a baller one year but, under Harasymiak, had to be replaced? Players don't fall off a cliff at this stage of their playing career. It has more to do with who is coaching them, how they are held to a certain standard, and how motivated they are to play for their leader.
