GAME 26 OREGON: Death Spiral

Not at all. In the midst of a hugely disappointing season some criticism is certainly expected and warranted.

What I object to is the absolute over-the-top rhetoric “Pike sucks, Pike blows, Fire him now, He’s done, It’s over” yadda, yadda, yadda. Thread after thread after thread, from the same cast of characters. But you know what, even if he’s not completely oblivious to it, Pikes is a big boy, he can take it.

I also think it sucks that the overly obnoxious criticism has been directed at virtually every player. Plenty of constructive commentary, but also tons of absolute mean-spirited shyte. And I know the new thing is “Well, they’re getting paid now so they’re fair game.” Just the latest excuse for poor behavior by supposed adults.

Example: in a recently posted thread citing Carino saying the Washington start time is a disgrace, one poster said “Rutgers basketball is a disgrace.” The program is a disgrace? I think that’s uncalled for. But right there with a big 👍 is our own Grantland Rice (aka bac2therac).

Sustain and retain …Pike’s and Rutgers basketball way forward to rebuilding the program

Disagree. I think that team can be good given the two transfers can be solid starters and one of the freshman can be a decent Big 10 contributor. To have a competing team in the Big Ten, I'd say you need 8-10 players that will be effective in conference play, with 2-3 of those players being true impact players.

I think Grant has already started to prove he can be an impact player, and Lathan has had some moments as well. I think one of the freshmen can hopefully be a solid contributor right away, and JMike, Ogbole and Dortch will improve. The key is Pike being able to get two good transfers that can be viable to solid starters. They don't have to be elite, just have to be Big 10-caliber.

It's too early to say where RU will compare to other Big 10 teams for next season before transfer portal departures/additions, but if Pike can retain the right guys and get a couple nice portal additions, it can be a solid team.
Hope you are right. You have a lot more confidence in Pike as a coach than I do.

College Football Playoff meetings not about expansion. It's about college sports survival

One thing I have not seen the sports media dig into is the possibility of certain politics bleeding into college sports revenue.

The US and New Zealand are the only countries that allow direct to consumer advertising by pharmaceutical companies. The new admin has talked about ending that, and if it came to pass it would be a $15 billion+ annual advertising customer disappearing from the media companies that pay the college sports revenue.

Two from the portal, regardless of who they are, with this group and Pike will get us last place in the B1G

OT: NJ Property Tax Relief Applications

yes I took me almost an hour to do it all because I had to gather all that info on the fly and create that id.me
It would be nice if they told you all you will need as a list before you start the process.

As I also noted a few weeks ago when I posted about this process and changes is that the base year for Anchor has eliminated 2022 & 2023 to harmonize the basis for income . for non-seniors this could screw them out of the program or reduce their benefit because their income could have changed as well as their residency as home owner vs. renter.
The form does ask for 2023 and 2024 income, so presumably benefits are based on that income.

Men’s Lacrosse Headed to No. 12 Army Saturday

While NIL is a challenge this is somewhat of a red herring as we have offensive talent currently on the roster that is not being utilized to it's potential due to scheme.
This is true. Also, Brian was way ahead of the curve in utilizing the portal to address immediate holes in the roster, which gave us a sizable advantage for a time. The rest D1 caught up and NIL has only accelerated that process.

I think the issue is 50/50 personnel and scheme. Some of the scheme issues are a direct result of not having the right mix of skill sets on attack. But that doesn’t explain everything. If your scheme relies on having a perfect blend of specific skills in order to function, it is a bad scheme.

This has been an issue since at least 2023, and I would argue longer but we had some pretty talented attackmen that masked the issue. If you look at how badly the offense went in the tank when Brian Cameron went down in ‘23 or last year not having a big right dodger / finisher when Kelly got hurt and this year not having a true X attackman — that really should never happen and definitely not 3 years in a row. There is something fundamentally wrong with the offensive system if one missing piece causes a complete collapse in productivity. It’s not like we do not have skilled offensive players but it seems we just don’t have players with the exact skill set for specific roles.

I really think it is because our offense simply relies on our guys beating their guys and either taking themselves or dumping to the open look. That works when you have superior talent at every position but it is way too easy for good defenses to defend against. We have to run an offense that schemes guys open and creates mismatches.

"Are More New Jersey Colleges Doomed to Collapse?"

There are small public schools too, though. Certainly I think TCNJ or SUNY Geneseo is considered as prestigious as some. Maybe not Bucknell but it is pretty darn close IMO.
TCNJ has 7000 undergrads; Genesco 4000; Albright and Franklin & Marshall are in the 2000 range. There are kids who want a smaller school or can't get into TCNJ or Genesco, both of which are pretty selective.
