Offseason plan for Pike to get back on track

It sucks we’re talking about the offseason before our “most anticipated season ever” is even over, but that’s where we’re at.

#1 - Need a major coaching change. The one absolute must for this offseason not to be an automatic failure is for Pike to hire a proven X’s and O’s guy he can give full autonomy of the offense to.

#2 - Retain Grant and Sommerville. Grant is the obvious one as he has shown tools and a skillset that should make him a key player for years to come. I know there’s a lot of differing opinions on Lathan, but he has some really advanced offensive skill for a young big that can hopefully be refined with experience and better coaching.

#3 - Lead guard and rim protector. These are going to be the 2 biggest needs in the portal. Replacing Dylan is impossible, but we need someone who can be the lead guard because that guy isn’t currently on the roster or in the upcoming HS class. We’ve seen how important rim protection is for Pike’s defense after going from elite rim defenders for 6 years to none. Need a guy who can anchor the defense and complement Lathan.

#4 - Get back to his style. Fill out the rest of the portal class with long athletic veteran defenders who can play Steve Pikiell basketball. Defend and rebound like hell and get back to what made us good. Hopefully a new offensive coach can bring an innovative style that can keep the offense from looking as bad as it has in the past.

You're spiraling. From "in or out?" to this thread. Time to reset the expectations so you don't feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls the ball away.

An extremely large percentage of fans went into the season with unrealistic expectations. Pikes identity for the program is defense. 2 superstars on offense and a group of transfers that struggle to play defense was not a good roster for him.

Potential MBB coach replacement

Start with a President that supports athletics and can take on the diminishing press. Next, get an AD with vision, fundraising skills, care for student athletes, but deep desire to win, while having skills to take on the press. Tall order for our program.
What in the world ever gave you the idea that Rutgers could/would do any of that ?

Can we finally stop with the “if Ace and Dylan were healthy all year”

Team sucks. Coaching sucks. Schemes suck. Program spiraling back to the basement. Bless the rains in Minne two years ago was the beginning of Pike losing this program/team. Now we’re a joke. It’s a circus/aau team. The goofing off in warmups. The giggling at the alma mater after an embarrassing loss. And most disgusting, the three turnovers on basic out of bounds plays tonight. Do they even practice?
Not much else to say, you summed it up, spot on.

Ace and Dylan Attitudes

It's Steve's job to motivate and lead. Greg would never allow this to happen.
Agreed. A great analogy to this Rutgers basketball season is the 2024 New York Jets. Pike and Robert Saleh are both considered “players coaches,” which is definitely a good thing …unless the coach doesn’t have a good balance between that and demanding accountability, responsibility, and leadership from their team. Both teams had high expectations going into the season and failed for this reason.

Both teams were totally out-coached in multiple games and didn’t make the right adjustments during the season to right the ship.

I truly feel this might be my last year as a super fan/ticket holder.

Sure, I’m from here (Franklin, I played with Roy), I’ll always have a spot in my rooting heart for them, but it’s a new paradigm now. Tonight showed me no passion. This team is a letdown, and a rebuild is eminent.

We are a looong way from the Dance in a BiiiiiiiiG conference. I don’t see this as a Top 10 B10 program anytime soon.

It hurts, for sure.
I am right behind you brother.
It's more frustrating than fun and there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
It's a shame.

4 I believe including the 5 second violation. The staff is an absolute joke.

I hate to call out people on a message board, but that is a terrible and unfair take on these two kids. They may have hit the freshman wall, and teams have learned how to key in on them, and they've been dealing with a variety of injuries all year. It's been a frustrating season for sure, but I think that this criticism is not reflective of Ace and Dylan's "effort". If anything, they were both TOO unselfish tonight, and dished the ball instead of driving to the hoop.
Agreed especially Dylan TOO deferential he needed to take over…. He didn’t.

Do you agree with Mike DeCourcy?

Then don't act like you "know it all " or are an expert. And more importantly don't tear down the team or coaches , for what purpose ?. Your hindsight argument is nonsense, that's just an excuse to justify bitching.. As if the coaches don't evaluate performances after all games, win or lose. And the dumb argument that those that support the team in good or bad times accept mediocrity is bs. I said if often try contributing more with pocketbook than your mouth. That would truly not be burying your head in the sand. And by the way those of us who do make efforts to help with our pocketbooks and support the team ,good or bad .may just resent those that don't.
Donors remorse? Anyone contributing has to be saying to themselves "WTF am I watching?".

OT: Weather for Yankees' Opening Day, March 27th

That temperature reading must have been in direct sunlight as the record for April 9th,the date of the 1991 opener,is only 79,set in 1969.The winter of 1991 was very warm, though.
I will check into that to verify. It was extremely hot at that game and quite sure the temp was above 79.

Below indicates all time high of 90 for 4/8/91. (date of game) :

Football Rutgers Football CBs coach Mark Orphey to Texas

A game in which he let a one legged Bridgewater sit back and pick us apart instead of blitzing and making him try to hobble away to avoid pressure. Yeah that Robb Smith.
Yes, that was a mistake. But the defense still held Louisville well below their seasonal average that year. And the game turned on an illegal man downfield penalty and our receiver unable to catch a ball, which ricocheted off his hands into a Louisville defenders hands. Rutgers won 9 games that year, largely due to the Defense

Pike Enthusiasts

"Very good coach over the course of his career" You're delusional. He is 9 games over ,500 in 9 years at Rutgers, 40 games under .500 vs. Big 10 competition, and has one post season win. That's very good? LOL.
Listen Chow you sound like an idiot. What did Jordan do his last year ? Now without real BIG 10 recruits he developed a culture of tough defense , rebounding and teams knew they would be in a fight all game. So take away the first 3 years like any reasonable person would ,,what is the record ? Then throw in the Big 10 has been the top 2-3 conferences in the country for the last 9 years and we were a dumpster fire when Eddie got canned. Even you should be able to use common sense. Pike has failed this year , not making coaching adjustments in game , not mastering his rotations and not getting his defense fixed because he failed in the transfer portal. It sucks.
