Isn't he shooting like 37% from three? I'd much rather have him keep that up than focusing on the mid range. The mid range is where JWill excels.
Shelby is one of the few who thinks JWill is a top contributor and the third best player on the team, but even he doesn’t see JWill excelling in any aspect of offense. He’s merely ok, which is better than all but two others.

Dylan Grant about to get PAID

Totally agree that Pike should have given up on Martini sooner (I assume you agree since you said ‘finally’), and that we needed more length and rebounding.

I started to question Martini’s value when he played 19 minutes at KSU and grabbed 1 rebound. Not good for a supposed 4/5 man, in a 2-point loss where one more rebound could have made a difference.

He followed that up with 0 (zero) rebounds in 20 minutes versus Notre Dame, and subsequently 0 (zero) rebounds in 9 minutes at OSU, 0 (zero) rebounds in 8 minutes vs SHU, 1 rebound in 20 minutes vs Princeton in a 1-point loss where an extra rebound could have made a difference, and 0 (zero) rebounds in 10 minutes vs Columbia.

That’s 4 games where Grant did not even play, yet had the same number of rebounds as Martini.
Yeah, I never liked the Martini pick up from the beginning, at least if being thought of as a starter level player. He wasn't a good rebounder in the IVY, there was no way he was going to become one here now.

Thats not at all true of his junior year - he played with 2 very good (by MAC standards) players. That team should have had the talent to compete for a MAC title and instead they were Eddie Jordan level awful. I certainly didn’t watch all of his games at Eastern Michigan, but I highly doubt you did either (most probably weren’t even on TV).
His time at Eastern Michigan was defined by being a focal point of the offense. The bottom line is it would be a challenge for any player to go from that to a catch and shoot type sharp shooter role. That’s all I meant by fit. A lot of his strengths on offense require him to be the navigator which cancels out some of what Dylan offers. That’s all.

Sure - it’s possible he would be doing better without the injury but there’s no way of knowing that one way or the other. The point is - we knew off the bat he was a negative on D and he’s not known to be a good rebounding guard (like Jordan- for example) - and he was a one and done so there would be no future benefit potential from bringing him on for the year. Those things in combination suggest IMO that he was a poor fit overall.
His role his junior year is exactly what you would hope for with Dylan this year. Two guys who can score on and off the ball. The Jersey kid handled the ball as much as Acuff did in that back court. That team was awful because Farakhan and Bates thought about defense never. They made Acuff look like Caleb comparatively.
The negatives you keep describing describe JWill to a T (strengths require him to the navigator/needs ball in his hands, ect). Acuff is a different player, we just really haven't seen it due to injury. Even if they were the same bad fit, I'd prefer the guy who can shoot from all of the court.

I think we can make the Playoffs

Washington game in Washington is also a mystery. But it is at least a 50/50 as we beat them last year and I am not sure if they are much better or if we are much better than last year yet.
As for Athan- he needs to be 60% on the year. I will give him 57% if we continue to take a lot of deep throws but that means he has to be 60%+ on medium and short. We need KC to really be creative as well. Why is it that every other team in the world can do bubble screens and we haven't been able to for decades? lol
Washington is going to be especially tough. Will try to make it out there

OT: Duke Farms Eagle is back

Site has answers to some of these questions.

For instance:

Do we know what happened to any of the chicks that were banded at the Duke's Farm nest?

The oldest of the three males from the 2009 nest (C-96) was identified while fishing in 2013 at the Conowingo Dam in Maryland. The smallest male from the 2009 nest (C-94) was observed nesting in Connecticut and has fathered at least four chicks as of 2015. Finally, another male that was banded at Duke Farms in 2014 (D-98) was found near Little Sebago Lake in Maine. Unfortunately, residents witnessed him being attacked by a nesting adult bald eagle and he was later found deceased.
Yeah...that's great. But they only mention two birds from 16 years ago and one from 10.
The poster mosito was asking about the two from 2024 that flew off to who knows where or what. If one watches them break out of their eggs and grow to the point where they can fly, it's not unusual to then wonder what happened to those little guys.

Acuff’s game would be much better if he focused more on hitting the 10-12 footers and not hoisting away with 3s.

I posted this previously and the next game ( road game vs Nebraska ?) - he hit 2-3 of them.

Regardless he’s been a bust and how much the broken foot contributed to being a bust is an unknown / subject to debate etc.
