OT: Real Estate Question - Toms River/Brick and area

I worked at Taxation before I worked at OMB. I know exactly about the exempt properties in Lakewood. The rumors about individuals having exempt properties is overblown. The number of tax-exempt properties in Lakewood is similar to the number of tax-exempt properties in similar sized towns.
Not even close to similar sized towns. Yes some of the stories are overblown. The numbers I quoted is probably low and comes directly from the senators mouth. The other thing being overlooked is the federal subsidies discussed in the articles above. The percentage of the Lakewood population on government subsidy is unbelievable. Yet 100% go to private school. Where does that money come from? The question is rhetorical. As I said earlier the private busing is cover. Federal state and local money is disappearing at a profound rate.

Rutgers basketball: Is Jamichael Davis the point guard of the future?

He has had two really nice games, plus he was great against the press in the UCLA game. But beyond that, we have seen a lot of subpar play from him. It’s a positive sign his recent games, but not ready yet to say he is the RU starting point guard of the future. Let’s see how he finishes out the season in a larger sample size and if he can continue to maintain the improved level of play.
People acting like these were his only 2 good games this season must have missed some games

OT: Plane and helicopter collide in DC

I have an idea. For those of you who want to discuss DEI or whatever in the military, government, private sector, etc., why don’t you start your own separate thread about it. That way this thread can be about the technical aspects of this terrible collision. Just a suggestion.
Agree. And we know where that thread should be. I’m glad @RU4Real has hung in there despite the nonsense. You can actually learn something from his posts instead of wasting time with all the DEI crap.

Basketball Rutgers Basketball defeats No. 23 Illinois with return of Dylan Harper

Harper’s level of excellence was on display in Vegas.
Who you saw was who he is, that Harper coupled with the strides Bailey has made would have resulted in a completely different season.
Agreed. Early season Ace was so much worse

Hoping we make strides and get invited to the new Vegas post season tournament. The Thanksgiving one was so much fun

OT: Real Estate Question - Toms River/Brick and area

Tom where did I say any of the things you are saying? This is more than state aid. Tom the state pretty much took over the public school system in Lakewood because the budget was gutted. The state provides aid and then was forced to bail them out on multiple occasions in the form of loans. Which they are in default. This goes beyond courtesy busing. That is what is being used as cover.

You want to know what would happen if they sent their kids to public schools. There would be record funding. And there would be centralized busing versus busing to the more than 100 private yeshivas in Lakewood and 50more in the surrounding towns. Pretty much all the problems would be solved. But that is not realistic. And you do know that there are more than 700 tax exempt structures/properties (attached to the community alone) in town and the families that domicile in those structures.

Had pretty much this exact conversation with a local foundation and Senator Singer. The foundation recommended a more regional approach to the yeshiva system versus multiple yeshiva pulling from the same block. There are some yeshivas that enroll 10 or fewer children yet they have multiple busses/vans pulling into their lot.

What makes a coach like Rick Pitino able to take a school, in just two years, high into the D1 rankings: opinions please?

I'm looking sincerely for some essays from former players and knowledgeable fans. What does he do to make that happen?
I think a big part of it is he's simply a gifted, all time caliber coach...........just like in any profession.......singers, athletes etc..........people separate themselves from a talent perspective ie: Ace Bailey over a Jordan Derchack........both division 1 players but a massive difference in talent. Pittino over Pikeill....it's the same thing........Our coach is average/above average.............Pittino.....an all time great.

OT: New ACC Deal To Reward Clemson and FSU?

FUS's not at the top at most years. Have have you looked at the actual ratings? I mean the actual numbers year by year?
I never said we're at the top, I said we're near the top
Hell, we were 2-10 and still had the most watched league game in the ACC this year

When we're good, we're generally top 10 nationally
When we're pedestrian, top 15 is generally where we land
ACC wise, we're usually in the top spot

Are we ND, Texas, Ohio State, Bama, or Michigan?
Absolutely not
But we're generally right in that second tier

Thanks to Bobby playing anyone, anywhere, anytime, it put us on the map
And because of that, and the success that came along with it, the brand holds weight

We have actually had only one of those players for a bunch of games, if we had both our record would be better and and it would be a dry noodle sticking straight up...

Football Robb Smith set to return as Co-DC / Play Caller

Before the NCAA Settlement and revenue share, RU couldn't pay athletes directly. Unlike the cheaters, the major commitment from the University could only find an outlet in things like coach salaries. RU spent where they could. Now that RU can pay the players directly, and is basically obligated to spend $20 mil just to keep up, coach salaries are more likely to be competing directly with players in the total salary pool. So the Smith hiring might be indicative of the fact that RU doesn't have as much for coaching, or rather isn't compelled to just spend on coaches vs. players.

OT: Wintry Mix Thursday (2/6) after 1 am: some snow/sleet through 6-8 am, then a bit of freezing rain (esp NW of 95) then rain likely until ~12 pm

The NWS made a more substantial snowfall map update, below, about 30 minutes ago, bumping up amounts so that all of CNJ and adjacent EPA, along/N of 276/195 are in the 1-2" darker blue swath, as is all of NENJ/NYC and most of LI. Note that the point/click forecasts show about 1.2-1.6" of snow/sleet for most locations in the darker blue. The NWS also updated their freezing rain ice accretion map, below. It shows simply 0.01-0.10" of freezing rain, but they have a more detailed map (not included below) showing ice in the 0.02-0.04" range for 95 and SE of there towards the coast, but the advisories state up to 0.1" possible for these locations, as the NWS knows it would only take a minor change to get to those levels.

Bottom line is that it's going to be a messy/icy overnight after midnight tonight (when precip starts) through at least the morning rush hour for almost everyone with temps going above 32F for the 95 corridor and SE of there between 7 am (coast) and 10 am (95). Treated roads will likely be fine, but untreated roads will be covered with snow/sleet, as temps will be in the upper 20s when the precip begins, and then some freezing rain on top of that will make things worse, before the changeover to rain. Be careful out there folks.

Bottom line: probably a good idea to stay off the roads between 3 am and 8-9 am for everyone in the region as this is the period of heaviest frozen precip, especially south of 78; with temps <32F for just about everyone (especially N of 276/195), any snow/sleet or freezing rain will accumulate easily on untreated surfaces. North of 78, roads might still be icy until late morning or noon. Also, zero precip before midnight so no impact on the hoops game.

Latest NWS maps below for snow and freezing rain - not much change since this morning, other than to extend the 1" line southward from about 276/195 to a line from Philly to LBI. If the NWS is right, expect a general 1-2" snowfall between Philly-LBI and 78 with the 1" amounts likely south of 276/195 to Philly-LBI and <1" south of the Philly-LBI line (precip will change to sleet/freezing rain earlier there) and closer to 2" near 78 and anywhere north of 78, including the rest of NNJ, NEPA, and NYC/western LI/Hudson Valley.

Also, the advisories are still up for everyone, largely due to the risk of up to 0.1" of freezing rain along/SE of 95 and up to 0.2" of freezing rain NW of 95 in PA/NJ, although most models are showing little to no ice along SE of 95, but it only takes a glaze of 0.02-0.04" to make things very slippery on untreated surfaces and that's what is forecasted along and SE of 95 in NJ. Once the transition to freezing rain occurs (assuming it does), the transition to plain rain should happen quickly, likely by 8-10 am for everyone along/S of 78 and an hour or two later N of 80 and well NW of 95 as temps go into the mid/upper 30s.

Note that most of the 12Z and 18Z models are showing 1-3" or 2-4" (except the NAM showing <1" still), but I think the NWS is counting on a changeover to sleet to keep snow depth down. If we get a decent burst of snow from about 4 am to 8 am as many models show, without changing over, those 2-4" amounts could be realized even in CNJ, but it's more likely that sleet mixes in and keeps the snowfall amounts under 2" for just about everyone except folks north of 78 and especially 80, where mixing will likely be delayed. This is why several models and and some forecasters (including Lee Goldberg) are calling for up to 3" north of 78.
