OT: 2024 Atlantic Tropical Forecasts: CSU/NHC Say Very Active Season; Rafael to Weaken to a TS before coming close to the Northern GOM

We now have Potential Tropical Cyclone 18 (Future Sara) in the Caribbean and the initial NHC forecast has Sara becoming a strong TS in a few days as it slowly skirts the northern coast of Honduras, which, sadly, is likely to result in catastrophic flooding and mudslides from 15-30" of rain (even if the storm doesn't become a hurricane). If the track stays offshore, the NHC thinks the storm could strengthen into a hurricane (some models have a Cat 2/3), but if it makes landfall or stays very close to Honduras, the storm likely remains a TS until it curves NW and likely makes another landfall along the Yucatan in about 5 days, which is the end of the NHC forecast period.

Beyond that the uncertainty is very high as there are models that have it recurve towards the FL Gulf Coast and/or Cuba and there are also models that have it largely dissipate in Mexico or perhaps emerge into the western GOM as a weak TS or remnant with a very uncertain future. Based on climatology, it's unlikely that a hurricane will strike the US anywhere in November as only 3 have done that in recorded history, but this year, the near record GOM water temps would clearly support development of a hurricane - the bigger question might be whether we'd see the kind of shear that ripped Rafael apart before it could reach the US Gulf Coast. Too early to know, which is why this system needs to be watched closely, especially for those on the FL Gulf Coast and SW Keys.

Recruiting

Mineo said it wasn’t an NIL-driven decision on FB, for what it’s worth
That’s strange. I heard earlier this week there was a weird NIL situation with Ludington going on. Something about his club coaches getting paid by some ASU NIL foundation but I don’t have any details about it. Didn’t think he’d decommit but whatever. His timeline would line up here pretty well.

Celebrities at the RAC

I’ve been telling my family to prepare for some heavy hitters at the RAC this year.

Our conference games on the weekends will be one of the hottest tickets. The MSG game (if it happens) will also be a hot ticket.

Celebrities, athletes (current and former), rappers etc. will want to see Dylan and Ace up close.

Fat Joe is already hopping on the bandwagon with the Block R hat courtside at the Knicks game tonight.

Who’s your guesses for celebrities at the RAC or MSG game this year?

My 10 are:

- Spike Lee
- Adam Sandler
- Anthony Volpe
- Karl Anthony Towns
- Jalen Hurts
- Carmelo Anthony
- Lil Uzi Vert
- Dave Portnoy
- Gary Vaynerchuck
- Michael Rubin (Fanatics CEO) with a big rapper(s) or athlete(s)

OT: I-95 Camera Ticket (MD)

I was traveling on I95 in October at night (8pm) and while passing through Maryland a giant flash appeared behind me.

I was going above the speed limit but nothing crazy and not nearly as fast as I go on the NJTPK so I didn’t think anything of it. I also never heard of speed cameras on I95.

Today I received a citation in the mail ($80) for going at least 12 mph over the speed limit in a construction zone. Of course it clocked me going exactly 12 mph over (77 mph).

Although it was a construction zone, there was zero construction occurring. I have to imagine half of the cars passing through were getting the same citation.

Anyway - I’m assuming there’s no point in requesting a court date and disputing the citation. If I went this route I’m expecting to wait in line with everyone who had the same citation, only to be required to pay the full amount.

Anyone have experience with this? Do I just pay it and move on?
I got one in Chestertown MD a few years back. Same story almost. Just paid it. Was not worth trying to fight it

OT: RIP Hadji

As someone who grew up not having a dog or cat i never understood people getting so upset when they died. When my girls were little we got them a puppy and then I totally got it. Had her for 15 years until she got sick. It was a weird day. Long story short but after many trips to the vet that week my wife was on the phone with the vet and doc said I think it’s time, she’s in too much pain. Bring her in. On the way to the vet she got energized and had her head out the window enjoying the breeze. We get to the office and she actually died in my arms as I’m walking across the parking lot
