OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

Somebody is going to offer Alonso five years. Whether it will be at an AAV acceptable to Boras and him, I cannot say. He may accept a shorter deal at a higher AAV. But somebody's going to offer him five.
Would you rather sign Alonso to a 2 year contract or trade for a guy like Guerrero who has one year until free agency and give away some of the young players? If the Mets sign Soto and trade for Guerrero, then this lineup has a completely different feel next year.

I have the NIL solution!!

I visited the Ohio State board today. They will fire Day if they miss the playoffs with a team they invested $24M into. We have 1/8 of that budget. I understand your post is poking fun of threads and posters here.

The biggest issue is diluting ourselves into thinking we can compete with schools like them. Doesn’t mean we can’t beat them now and then but we’re who we are.

We don’t know what kind of President, than AD we might get. We don’t have the means to buy what we missed on recruiting. Our best players in this class, are cast offs from big schools. Because they didn’t improve on their sophomore season and tumbled in the rankings. I accepted our high water years will be 8-4. This season had everything lined up, we had a weaker schedule. Yet here we go struggling to find 2 more wins. Not mad or upset, I just don’t live Rutgers football. I come and watch, enjoy my time at SHI. Don’t think it the end of the world if it ends like the UCLA game did. Wisconsin was disappointing
I highly doubt we have 1/8, which is just an estimate.

OT: Stock and Investment Talk

I still think Bitcoin sees 100-150 in the next year. I’m more focused on Solana and it’s ecosystem as I think it has a higher ceiling.

I’m holding IBIT and BiTX (2x levered ETF) in my retirement accounts. They are probably the easiest ways to hold.

I self custody Bitcoin bought via Coinbase which is another way to go.
Anecdotally, anytime someone says Bitcoin is going over $100,000, it always drops.

I have the NIL solution!!

I was thinking TKR could implement a bitch tax jar, automatically debits every time someone pisses and moans about the program, Schiano, coordinators, AD, Rutgers at large, NIL, too many commercials during the game, students arriving late ...

Quadruple tax for starting a redundant, go-nowhere bitch thread like "Fire Schiano!!!"

Could you even imagine how much money we could raise? Number might exceed the limits of human comprehension

This off season just as last off season

I am Thinking of donating 100,000 dollars to the FB team. I am not really going to do it.just thinking about it
Don't even think about getting into the "I can't take it with me mode".. we want a 100-year-old fan birthday celebration for you.. next year isn't it? November.. is it on a Rutgers anniversary like the 6th (1869 game) or 10th (Charter signing).

About your later realistic/pessimistic post... we never really prioritized college sports as a university or a state. Sure, the few sports fans among the hordes of alums would love it.. but it is just not the same world as those state universities who are leaders in sports. Indiana.. the state and school.. is synonymous with basketball. They have a lot invested in basketball. That sports mindset has likely paid huge dividends in all things IU. And now they could leverage that investment and apply it to football because it is legal to buy enough players who can make a difference. Alabama did it the other way... used football money to fund a now-great basketball team.

And, I'm sure, a lot of these big donations come from local businesses for whom having that relationship earns them money.

New Jersey is just not set up for that sort of investment in the State U's sports teams.

It can go that way.. that CAN be developed. But with pro sports teams all over the place here, and no local TV networks that can be leveraged.. we have to WIN first. Or find a bunch of sugar-daddies somehow.

We are in a tough spot.. but as long as fans recognize that and not punish Rutgers because of things beyond its control.. we can do small improvements over a longer period of time and hopefully we get close enough where back-to-back great seasons get us bumped to teh next level.. in the minds of New Jersey fans and businesses.. and we get close to what other State Us have.

OT: Christmas music already? 100.7 WHUD has gone all Christmas as of 11/1

Thanksgiving has been swallowed up by the Christmas Holiday Creep machine. Black Friday is now Black November. Taking it even further, there are states in the Midwest where Christmas in July is a thing.
Well, Christmas in July is kinda fun. It is a half-Christmas, those states have the "real" Christmas too. I'm sure we all know that Christmas is just the Christian takeover of a Germanic winter solstice holiday and, of course, All Saints Day is a failed attempt to Christianize the Druid's Halloween.. what's its name.. something like Samhain (still celebrated in Ireland)... and its really just a harvest festival that gave the Druids power based on superstition.

The public holidays of Thanksgiving and Independence Day and Memorial Day and Labor Day are probably the most honest holidays we have.. Easter too, for believers, as I'm sure every religious holiday has some honesty to it.
