Reading the Ledger in the 70s and 80s

I would pick my son Brian up after work and we would get in 9 holes. Brian, who played
on the Johnson HS golf team got his one and only hole in one on the 3rd hole.
I've been playing 40 plus years and am still waiting for my first. 🤨
Same here. Played 3-4 times a week from the mid-80s through about the late 90s, then a bit less in the 2000s, but mostly stopped playing over the last 10 years and especially the last 4 since I took up disc golf, again, with a vengeance. Closest I ever came was hole 3 at RU, where my 6-iron from 175 grazed the cup and finished 6" behind the cup (and I had my 6-iron in my hand and threw it towards my bag and asked my friend to bring me my putter and then I left the 6-iron on the apron and didn't notice until the end of the round - nobody ever returned it). Oddly enough, I probably made about 7-8 eagles from the fairway from distances between 100-200 yards, but never a hole in one.

OT: 2024 NY Yankees Season Thread

It's "you're" btw.
I've gotta throw in that Wednesday, when the Yanks finally were eliminated by what I had become convinced was a better team, I got the joy of bringing my wife home after surgery on Monday. That sort of thing at least for this Yankees fanatic puts things in perspective. I suffer too much with each loss and certainly was hoping for another World Series championship. But the Dodgers pitching was better than I thought. And Freeman was hitting like I had hoped Judge would in the series. And I got my wife back.
I'm okay with finishing second and an American League pennant.
Wait 'til next year.
It's "got to" btw. I'm glad to hear that your wife's OK.

OT: 12th Anniversary of Superstorm Sandy

Manville was crushed by Irene the year before Sandy. That was a big rain/water event. A lot of the Lost Valley was never rebuilt and many lots bought out via Blue Acres funding. Hurricane Ida was another huge blow to Manville. The Lost Valley is the neighborhood between the CRX train tracks and Millstone River, which feeds into the Raritan. Go to Google Map and type in Boesel Avenue, Manville NJ.

Unfortunately, Manville is at the confluence of the Millstone River and South Branch of the Raritan. Tough spot to be in during these events.

I have the NIL solution!!

Might help him, but I kinda doubt it.

But he’s right that spending hours being obsessive about political narratives on the CE board is a sad waste of time. Addicting, but still a sad waste of time. But it’s people’s time to waste, just like it’s people’s money to spend. So not sure what he thinks he’s accomplishing here.

What I really don’t understand is, since he’s so clearly depressed about our fanbase, why not go be a fan of a team with “better” fans? He’s not gonna persuade anybody to do anything the way he posts, so why waste time crying all the time?
I always figured that account was Al's burner account or his significant others (no judgement there). This is a message board trying to generate clicks/revenue. Complaining gets more clicks than being positive. Sad reality.

I have the NIL solution!!

NIL money isn’t a guarantee. Because other teams have it too, and because shit happens.

But I think we’re seeing that it’s guaranteed that no big ten team can regularly compete with the top half of the conference without lots of NIL money.
I think for about 80% of the landscape it's a year to year thing. Regularly doing anything is harder these days regardless, which on balance actually probably is a good thing. Hope and opportunity is there for more schools than ever before.

Revenue sharing is supposed to be coming as soon as next year and that will be another thing imo that will help bring even a little more parity.
