OT: Update on SoCal Weather

Pepperdine mitigation and wildfires, including Woolsey fire:

Buildings on Pepperdine’s campus are constructed with fire-resistant materials and the landscaping features fire-resistant plants. Additionally, the university says it ensures brush and other potential fuel for wildfires is cleared at least 200 feet from campus buildings each year, creating firebreaks.

“Our buildings feature fire-resistant materials and irrigation systems that protect the surrounding landscape. Additionally, we maintain defensible space around campus structures and have dedicated water reservoirs for firefighting,” Friel said
.

It's really not that hard to fireproof houses from what I've read, but as you noted so many just don't want to do that for aesthetic reasons; these things should be insisted on for any rebuilds. Although, I would imagine these things wouldn't work so well in a very densely populated area, like a city with houses a few feet apart (think NB or Ocean Grove or many others in NJ - fortunately, we usually don't have the low RH and ridiculously high winds combined like they do in the desert - when we have really high winds, most of the time it's associated with precip).

OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

It is weird unless all of these guys are talking before voting. What is half of them decide to be just that one guy leaving him off the vote. There should have been 50 unanimous HoF by now.
100% agree. When you think of all the greats in fielding, pitching, hitting for average and power it's insane there haven't been more. To take it a step further, those that should be in the HOF but didn't play nice with the press is another piece of bullspit.

THE OFFICIAL 2024-2025 NET RANKINGS THREAD

It has certainly changed the way OOC games are scheduled. Used to be that scheduling a top team from a bad conference would help your RPI with a win.... now it's just another Q3 game that doesn't do anything for you. More valuable these days to beat the 14th team in the SEC than to beat the top team in the MVC.

It’s wrong. Thanks for bringing up the MVC. They are the poster child this year for the flaws in the system. Poor Drake. They are 17-2. What else do they have to do to get in the conversation? Lunardi, after all, doesn’t even have them in his next 4 out. A once would have been clear contender for at large with a respectable RPI in the 30s, Drake is banished with a NET in the 60s which is not within striking range for a MVC team.

Tell me though - what else could they have done to get in the conversation? BAC in past years talks about mid-major frauds but this year’s Drake isn’t one of them. They scheduled 3 major conference games and won all of them - all on neutral floors. They beat Vandy (currently projected in the field) by double digits. It’s not their fault KState and Miami stink, but look, they beat Miami by double digits and while the KState game was a nail biter, it’s not like KState hasn’t played some good teams close. They only lost at Kansas by 10.

By all counts, Drake should at least be in the conversation if they keep winning.

OT: Feeling cold today? Check out N.J.‘s coldest temperatures ever recorded

Went skiing at Camelback in the Poconos yesterday
The car thermometer registered a -7 a few times, as i.went along route 80
By the time I reached the base, it was -4
Coldest I ever skied, previously had a zero temp
Skiers know how to dress, it wasn't bad at all, since it was not windy and plenty of sun

Chris Long reopens recruitment

Can't say there's not a lot more about the decisions Long has made that I don't know the reasons why and there's nothing wrong with what Chris is doing .
I do hope he finds a program he feels comfortable with and stays injury free, but once he left RU the only thing I wish for him is remaining injury free and using his academic opportunities football gives him to build a good life after his college days are over.
As for how successful his role with the program he chooses to play for is something their fans can hope, I just hope it's injury free and uses the academic opportunity playing college football gives him to earn his degree
My feelings about kids who lleave us are thus: Who cares? Good luck and Goodbye!
