GAME 25: Iowa short recap

I disagree about Ace and Dylan being the problem and that our offense ran much better last night when they were out of the game. I was at the game. I don’t remember ANY point where I felt anything but disgusted with what I saw on the offensive end. I mean in the first half we made some shots and there was an illusion that we were playing well, but with or without Ace and Dylan in the lineup our offense looked terrible and in terms of scheming it looked nonexistent. As I said in a different thread, I’ve been in pikes corner from the beginning, but it was so stark to me the difference in what we had as a half court game plan and what Iowa was running. I honestly don’t know how anyone with a little bit of basketball knowledge couldn’t see that. We had to work incredibly hard for mediocre to difficult shots. How many easy shots did Iowa have? I mean there were times, speaking of our defensive end, which is both a tribute to their offense, and a slap at our defense, that one of their players drove right down the lane and there wasn’t anybody within 3 feet of them. If you wanna pick out a guy who wasbreally bad on defense last night, I’d have to go with Dylan Grant. Every time his man drove to the basket he was riding behind him, forcing whoever our center was to come over to help and leaving Iowa center wide open for dunks or put backs on the shots.

I think if you brought someone to the game who has watched minimal, maybe zero, college basketball and said watch what this team does when they’re on offense and then watch what the other team does when they’re on offense and you tell me which one seems to know what they’re doing and which one seems an accident waiting to happen, it’d be easy. It was that obvious.
One team put forth effort and know how to play D, making shots difficult, the other team doesn't which led to wide open lanes to the basket. Grant is bad defensively, its why we didn't see him for long stretches while everyone in the game thread was calling for him. He came in and immediately committed a bad TO too.
Ace, and especially Dylan, were problems in this game also. Look at Dylan's dribbling as to why the offense looks as it does.

Odd RU Fan behavior

Funny you said that. We have a group that enters various walks polar bear plunges etc…. We continued to do them during Covid without the “official” designation. It was mostly about the “tailgating” experience. What’s interesting is we raised more money for the charities in these off event dates than we did prior years. Sport withdrawal lead to a flag football event. Game never happened because everyone was having too much of a good time tailgating.
That's awesome!
I actually got the idea from the Browns fans who used to go to the stadium parking lot when the Ravens had home games, and Cleveland had no team for a few years, and tailgate

I was able to get my fix going to the Bleacher Bar in Boston to see the Sox play through the glass opening the last game of the season
Otherwise, I would have gone insane

In a similar situation, how do we not ever improve on baseline out of bounds? We throw the ball in to the backcourt more than any team I’ve ever seen. BLOBs are taught and practiced daily at every playing level. It’s been an issue even when Paul Mulcahy, a smart good passer, would often inbound with turnovers.
I'm disgusted by our inbounds plays. There is never real movement until it's panic time and no one makes hard cuts.

Pike:
“Ok men, what you’re gonna see here is that these guys are tough to defend, because they run a lot of screens, hard cuts, and lots of motion to get players open for good looks. Any questions?”

Player:
“Hey coach, if that’s so hard to defend, why don’t we do that too?”

Pike:
“Next question.”
I like your sense of humor which is needed this season and so many previous seasons.

Rotation going forward - play for next year

Not True.Rutgers couldn't stop Iowa from making layups or 3 pointers. On offense Rutgers would need to score a additional 36 points to win the game without the 24 points from Bailey and Harper.Next season the team will be lucky to score 60 points unless some shooters are recruited from the transfer portal.
how many point did Acuff and JaMike score? In how many minutes?

One of my major complaints about Pike not running an offense. He runs a Horns set and when that does not work just wing it.
