Post Mortem.... Near Speechless

I mean, by this logic both players have also gotten way, way better at offense.

Better? Not really. "Regressed tremendously"? Lol no.
Way way?

Really? there offense numbers year over year will be less then 5% change and that’s with 2 guys on the floor being doubled consistently leaving them wide open. They are taking open shots with no one paying any attention to them so it makes sense with the slight uptick in their offensive numbers.
Watch that come to a crashing halt next year when Ace and Dylan are gone and teams actually try and defend them as opposed to leaving them wide open like this year.

What a change from 3 years ago - Senior Day

how many players are going out for senior day...will ace and dylan? everyone knows they arent coming back....pj, zach, how about J Will, tyson...a whole bunch of one year rentals...we should do away with senior day its meaningless..only 4 year players should be acknowledged.

It should be changed somehow .

Explaining contract decisions

Shelby asks again....how much is Marquette raking in ? Or better, Kennesaw St. ?

NIL poverty might prevent us from being a regular top 20 team, but the squad sucks far beyond any NIL excuse. How much NIL do the Purdue reserves make ? Those garbage time players scored at will against our regulars.

The RU team has no heart and scant talent overall. Everyone's out there only looking to get shots off. That's been the MO for as long as Pike has been here.

I have been a huge Pike supporter because there are reasons things happen game to game that make sense from a basketball perspective. I analyze it and then I either agree or disagree.
Last night had to be Pike’s worst game plan in 9 years. There is no way to defend it and some will say the players can be blamed equally , but that was not the case last night.
In what world would you allow Loyer and Smith to hit 7-8 uncontested 3’s with no one and the same zip code on almost all of Loyer ‘s threes. I can live with Kaufman Renn getting his 20 -25 down low because Lathan can only do so much. But anyone with a clue about beating Purdue and Pike knows how , would never let them shoot 3’s uncontested. It was so baffling that our guys were not guarded their guys closely.
"In what world would you allow Loyer and Smith to hit 7-8 uncontested 3’s with no one and the same zip code on almost all of Loyer ‘s threes."

Exactly! In what world do you not go down the bench to the walk-ons until you find someone willing to go all out and be in Loyer's and Smith's face. I get it that there is no McConnell on the team, but surely, there is a 30-40% McConnell on the team who could have made a difference.

10th Place in B1G on the line

so 95% chance we make the B10 tourney.
5%% we don’t.

5% it is then.
Less than 5% IMO. That percentage is based on every game being a complete 50/50 toss-up. There are 8192 possible combinations of outcomes of the final 13 games. In 384 of those outcomes, we don't make the tournament. However... some of the games that need to go against us are things like Iowa beating Michigan State, and I think their chances are less than 50%.

I think our seed matters if you want us to win twice (or more???) in the tournament. Avoiding Purdue would seem to be a big help there. If we can get to 11, the charts show the likely round 2 opponent would be (UCLA, Illinois, Wisconsin) with a slim chance of it being Oregon or Maryland.

Then we'd play Purdue in round 3 and we've seen that movie twice this season.

Explaining contract decisions

Everybody and their grandmother saw what NIL was going to be from day one. All other major programs went full speed ahead. It seems as if only Hobbs and Rutgers decided to "go slow".

Banging the gymnastics coach was also not in his contract but he seemed to find time in his busy day to do it.
President Holloway made it very clear that The “wild west” nature of NIL concerned him.

Thanks for reminding me. Coupled the game with a campus visit when my son was considering Fordham. Up until this season probably the most frustrating game I've watched. Peter Kiss was an embarrassment with his antics while stinking up the joint. Nick Honor torched us, but we got revenge vs. him the following year when he transferred to Clemson and we beat them in the tourney.

Probably second only to Kennesaw St. this year in the annals of "why are we playing here?".
Didn’t we play at umass a few years ago?

Post Mortem.... Near Speechless

Objectively they regressed tremendously? Based on what? Do you have something to back that up beyond the fact that they were on a good team and then a bad team?

I'm not sure I claimed those two would be "cornerstones" on D. I just said they were good enough to be contributors on a good defensive team.
Their defensive ratings year over year?
The teams defense rating year over year?
Do you believe watching they are better this year then last year defensively?

The promised "memorable season"

People are really overstating how “improved” the offense is.
Particularly when looking at B10 conference games.

10th at 71ppg.
9th in offensive efficiency

This is a middle tier Big Ten offense even with 2 of the top scorers in the conference.

I get that the defense needs to be improved next year.
But the offense needs to also improve. Let alone take a step back next year.

Unless we address the scoring need in the offseason, I think a repeat of last year is more likely than people realize.
If we're talking year over year it is tremendously improved, but that's because it was historically terrible last year. It is mediocre this year.
