Basketball Rutgers Basketball wins second straight, downs USC 95-85

Considering he has had 1 practice in the past two months, what kind of shape did you expect him to be in???
It’s not about shape, he’s just not a competent big 10 player. We were stuck with him this year so we all hoped for the best. But if we are all honest, he is not a quality big at this level of play in the Big 10. It is what it is with Ogbole, but he’s very limited as a player. Ideally, we would have had better talent ahead of him and never need to stoop to such a level to add a guy like him. But we did have to add him out of desperation and no other alternatives.

committee has to look at conference champions and play because upsets in a conference championship game can alter the playing field dramatically, especially in conference where maybe 2 or tops 3 teams get in
Of course they look at them for bid stealer purposes, but the conference tournaments are not adding to your resume if you are trying to get in as an at large team. They evaluate at large teams essentially prior to the conference tournaments and they already know who is in and who is out and rank the teams. If there are any bid stealers, then the lowest ranked at large team gets dropped out of the field.

Conference tournaments can impact seeding for teams that are already in, they don’t add to the resumes for teams that are way back on the bubble standings.

Excellent win tonight with 5 guys in double figures and Bryce had 9.

He's too afraid of getting blocked at the rim. He should have scored on one today if he went up strong right away but stopped and pumped faked a couple times which lead to him being blocked
It is a bit of an issue for a guy who will play close to the rim, that he has very little lift and lacks explosiveness. He should be more decisive when he gets the ball. I actually think he plays better further from the basket than from right underneath or at the basket. Lathan has a nice touch and can shoot the ball, as evidenced by his free throws. He also hit a jumper today near the free throw line. I really think his game is eventually more suited to be like a Coleman Hawkins type playing away from the basket than a traditional Big 10 center camping right near the hoop. Lathan can shoot, can take slower guys off the dribble, can be a Pick and Pop guy who can knock down a shot from the elbow or just inside the free throw line. Trying to make explosive plays at the rim is just not his game and likely won’t be based upon his athleticism.

Other than working on his body this summer, I would love to see Lathan become more decisive.
He needs to learn to attack the rim without hesitation,

Rutgers is not a bubble school now. Looked at the locks and then the bubble and I have 60 locks and only 8 slots for 25 teams and Rutgers is not one of the 25. Some bracketologists have 4 of my 8 also in , so only maybe 4 spots for 21 teams.

Rutgers is playing better and almost fully healthy now. Dylan is the key in every game from here on out.
17-14 gets them on the board and under consideration but nothing less than that so need to go 3-0

the committee likely has their field set by Thursday....they have the contigency at the ready for bid stealers

not be Jerry Palm but the odds are against simply because history is against

Im not interested in discussing Rutgers as a bubble school unless they get to 17-14

Ace and Dylan Top 3? Sorry. Don’t see it…

There still are so many stupid comments on here by totally negative RU fans. People just love to criticize Pike, Harper, Bailey & our team. I have attended practices since Pike was hired and have been to several hundred of them. Our kids work hard every single practice. Ace and Dylan are both only 18 and our other players might not contribute as much as we expected but the BIG Ten is rated as the second best league in the country just behind the SEC and ahead of the Big 12. Our league has many 23 and 24 year old men on BIG rosters. Our team is still rated in the top 20 % of the 369 D-1 teams in the entire country. We also have played the 24th toughest schedule in the country. Yes we have lost some games we should not have lost but not everything turns out the way we always want things to. Some just love to rip our coaches and our players to make themselves look good when most probably never even competed in high school or college sports. It is easy to sit behind a desk and type negative comments. Coaching and participating are not easy. I like fans who root for our team and stick with our team through thick and thin. That is what I have done since 1971. We don't need "fans" who just jump on board but really are not RU fans for very long. We had not been to the NCAA for 30 years yet Steve got us there twice and it would have been 3 years as when the NCAA was cancelled in the covid year we were ranked # 28 in the country. Steve is not perfect but he isn't the one making bad passes and missing shots. We don't have the large NIL monies that many other blue bloods do. I just wish some would think before posting such harmful comments that they post. Does that make you feel better? I don't see so many criticizing our football team yet our coach has never won a championship at any level, has yet to even once having a winning record still in a BIG Ten season. He never won in the BIG East or the AAC as well and he makes $ 10 million a year and has had two stadium expansions and this past season we were only 7-6 without playing any of the top 6 teams in the Big Ten this past fall. We had the easiest schedule of any team in the BIG and we still struggled. We fell apart against Kansas State after being ahead by 3 scores in the last 18 minutes. We also blew a game with 14 seconds to play on a 50 yard touchdown pass with only a couple guys back on defense but little is said about that. Some bragged when we defeated Miami in last years bowl game when they had 16 players not play in the game before the NFL draft. It was like without 16 starters we played against a Miami JV team. It was embarrassing.

We have gotten I guess to the point that a BIG 10 win is ho hum for this board but that would be a mistake. One of our better shooting games , 56% from 2 , 45% from 3 and 93% from the foul line going an incredible 26-28. Each player was confident shooting as Tyson , JMike and Zach shot the ball in rhythm without hestitation. Offensively we are getting better.
Dylan makes the team go and his hustle tonight with 9 assists and 6 steals to go along his 25 points , not to mention the hustle to the ball to keep possession or other high IQ plays , were off the charts. 6 steals were ridiculously good. He is that good and as good as any guard in the country. We go as he goes.
Ace , another quiet night , being denied the ball a lot. He still hit 2 huge threes in each half. Funny , but it seems to me that when Dylan is going off , ACE gets passive and lets Dylan do his thing but is also not fully engaged on the boards . Only when Dylan was hurt or rarely struggling does ACE turn into a mad man and score 25-35 , 10 or more rebounds , 2-3 blocks and a few assists and a monster. Wonder if they can both go off together down the stretch. ACE didn’t want to rebound tonight which was unfortunate since we were getting killed on the boards but at least a couple of blocks .
JMike and Bryce having their best games of the year offensively. JMike limited his drive into trees to 1 and actually hit one and shot the ball confidently . His 8-8 from the line was massive. He still doesn’t fight over screens and doesn’t keep his man in front of him so I am still down on his defense.
Bryce 4-4 with 2 great put back dunks and a nice and one layup. Has to help his confidence. He is trying real hard on defense but because of his weight he still gets pushed around. He still gets some steals and deflections and was very active . Glad they burned the redshirt.

Thought Lathan had an outstanding second half until getting stripped 2x late. His scoring and rebounding was good but I thought his defense denying the pass to their center was outstanding. He hedged high and recovered a few times. His best defensive half of the year. His foul shooting is outstanding and was also massive tonight.
Tyson and Zach hit some timely shots and contributed tonight across the stat sheet. We needed everyone contribution and hope it becomes consistent.

USC two guards Claude the grad transfer and Yates , the outstanding freshmen were phenomenal but we shut down the rest of their team and why we won. JMike could not stay in front of Claude and the geo came too late from our bigs. Claude has done this to about 5 BIG 10 teams so hope no one was suprised.
Yates has been outstanding the last 7-8 games as Claude was hurt and missed 2-3 games after they beat Michigan State and Illinois. He is quick as hell and his 16 matching Dylan’s16 in the first half was fun to watch.
Now I think they have the same problem that we have with Dylan and ACE that is Claude started hot and then came out in first half , not sure he had foul trouble , but then Yates took over and got his 16 at the half. Then in second half , Claude took over completely and Yates was a non factor until the last 2-3 minutes. He had 16 at the half and then 18 with 2-3 minutes left as Claude dominated the ball and the shots.

All in all , we got up 15 or 17 against a decent USC team and of course we let up too soon and let them give us a little heart palpitations for a few minutes but our foul shooting was outstanding for the win. Did not like our rebounding effort tonight on the defense end as all 5 players on the floor must rebound before we get out on the break and their getting 2-3 offensive boards or balls just hitting the floor after a shot really sucked and unfortunately 28 games in , the guys must be reminded they all must rebound.

Very good win and we are right there with 3 left and 7-10 in the conference with the 9th spot right there as Indiana , Nebraska and Ohio State also with 7 wins. One game at a time. Team is finally healthy and supporting cast is playing better. Just need our players to actually try and keep their opponent in front of them.

But in that scenario we would be 13 or 14 and 11 in the Big. Most teams with 14 league wins make tournament....again im.not saying we would be for certain. I'm arguing BACs overconfident " No" as if he is the overlord of the committee.

League wins aren't considered

15 losses..only 3 schools ever at large and 17-14 heading into tourney play is rare air percentage wise. You can't make a resume in 4 days when the committee likely has their field selected on Thursday
As you correctly noted, all of the 15 loss teams that got in were in the past 10 years? Why? Consolidation of power conferences and the advent of more games in conference schedules, thus widening the gap in schedule strength between good and bad schedules.

How many teams have ever missed the tourney with 8 Q1 wins on selection sunday? Any?

Anyway this is like 1 in 500 years type stuff so it doesn't really matter lol

disagree and until RU gets to 17-14 its not worth discussing

beyond the very small chance RU gets to 17-14 or 19-15 or 20-15 the two other issues remain working against RU....only 3 schools have ever been selected with 15 losses and they did not do their run in conference tournaments.....and then that leads to the 2nd issue, the past several years have shown that conference tourney runs to finals do not have much impact with schools not making them or if the school did win the conference tourney, the seed was such that they never were getting the at large

I dont think RU fans should set themselves for one...a miracle scenario and two still unlikely even in that miracle scenario

if someone can find precedent for it i am open to listen but history shows alot of things working against RU not mention RU would have to run off 5 Q wins in 7 games where they only have 4 in 15 games right now
I don’t disagree about having any expectation of it to Happen …but only answering IF it happens
