OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

Havent ventured off the round table much but super happy to see there is a Mets thread here!! Im now in on the Marte Partay over here!!

As a 28 year old this is truly the first time ive felt the Mets have done what they needed to AND more in an off season. Would love to see them get another starter in a trade (Cease or King the obvious choices based off what we have heard) but I think 2025 can be very exciting for the Metropolitan’s.

One thing I really hope for is some consistency at DH. Whether that be Winker or Starling I hope we just let one of those two get consistent AB’s and fight through lows when applicable. Felt the constant swaps at DH last year didnt do guys many favors.

LFGM!

OT: Wintry Mix Thursday (2/6) after 1 am: some snow/sleet through 6-8 am, then a bit of freezing rain (esp NW of 95) then rain likely until ~12 pm

Sleet with freezing rain. Models were onto less snow last night and the NAMs did better than those global and gfs. All the models cut back on qpf

Is it really a bust when they were generally forecasting about an inch or less..even in the nws text product

Seen these sleet events in my times

That said it's still will be slick and tough going for a couple hours for cj and more to the north so use caution
It was a bust for those wishcasting the “storm”.

Just stop. We had Ogbole in the post. Kennesaw outrebounded us 46 to 27 or something like that. We need to own that loss. Should’ve never happened. Full stop.
I don't think most posters here analyze what we looked like early in the season compared to now. Ogbole was bad back then, but later in the season, he was much better. Then again, when you consider all the differences in the rotation, who's playing well now, etc., it does make a difference. Not seeing that is why fans are stuck in neutral, while teams aren't. You don't ever stay the same. You either get worse or better.

RAPID REACTION — Illinois

I have vehemently disagreed with our posters thinking the committee wants us because of the Dylan-Ace pomp and circumstance.

Based on the National press those two get, I’m starting to agree, if we get hot and give the committee a legitimate reason to take us…they will
thats the key..if the wins are there on the resume and there is a legit reason to take RU....personally without seeing the landscape since we are still 5 weeks away, I tend to lean 19-12 as that level....18-13 which could be 18-14 or 19-14 is very precarious

RAPID REACTION — Illinois

does it hurt to do well in tourney of course not.....however big warning would be fans getting all excited about a 20-14 rutgers team who was a 9 seed and knocked off the 15 seed and the 1 seed in the Big 10 tourney but lost in the semis to the 4 seed and expecting a bid and then when it not coming going nuts. Lately the think of 10-20 years ago with tourney performances just isnt moving needles.

Body of work and the tourney games are just one game or 2 games in 33.

no...the committee does not factor in "runs" or how a team finishes...its been almost 20 years since that has been used. Ive never said that....I have said if you are winning alot down the stretch you are likely stacking Q1 and Q2 wins which helps your profile

always stressed BODY OF WORK...thats why not having anything non conference is an issue on the resume

🙄 depends on where you live. The schools in the southern half of the state are on a delayed opening or remote learning schedule.
Deep enough to cover my fingernail. Not deep enough to reach my first knuckle. And gone off of the street. No ice to speak of.

J Will was a big part of the win last night...acuff wouldnt be able to provide those intangibles of taking late pressure shots

Unfortunately, with Dylan healthy, even J Will at his worst usually is going to give us a better chance to win than Acuff in the game. Another high volume scoring option with compromised defense is what Acuff brings to the table, and that’s just not what we need or want with Dylan and Ace in the game. JWill does stupid things but he’s still one of our better defenders on a team that struggles with defense overall.

RAPID REACTION — Illinois

Dylan was awesome and lets the game come to him.

Ace’s rebounding effort in late 2nd half was a key to winning in my opinion.

JWIll is frustrating to watch with some goofy plays and then he makes a shot in paint and/or hits fts. Experienced player who plays like a frosh many times.

Grant plays confident and not like a true frosh even when not hitting shots.

Somerville has to keep improving his defense and not getting silly fouls.

Martini gives a lot of effort but has to improve makes from 3 if all his shots are from beyond the arc.

JDavis playing confident and giving effort on D.

Hayes came in and gave us a basket when needed.

One thing I noticed about Acuff is that he is stagnant and stands in one spot without the ball. He can hits shots but he lets the defense off the hook by not making them work and ball watching.

Derkack not a factor. Kid has ability to contribute. Just has to make smarter decisions and harness it.

Hummel is the man. Calls it like it is and knows his shit. Praises when merited and gives constructive criticism when warranted. Him and Bardo are the dudes.

Think Pike did nice coaching job.

Got the win and onto MD.

GO RU

You seem to move the field goal to fit your argument. One year, the committee factors in a team that goes on a run, especially with several Quad 1 & 2 wins, to close out the season, and now you're saying that doesn't matter. What gives?

RAPID REACTION — Illinois

Last night is a reminder of two things:
- If Dylan had stayed healthy for the entire season, this is a lock NCAA Tournament team.
- If RU had retained Cliff, and everyone stayed healthy, they'd be a solid top 20 team

RU benefitted from a very slow start by Illinois and an injury to their big man that limited his playing time. But Rutgers had the better energy and urgency. And when you have Ace and Dylan both playing well, we're always going to be a tough out.
