Ok, end of game who takes the big shot???

We have had the good fortune to have 2 guys in our program who we trusted to take and hit big shots at the end of games in Ron and Geo for a few years now. They could create their own shot and make them. I know we're only 2 games into the season and both games have been run away wins but after seeing our personnel who would you trust to take a big shot at the end of the game?

I'm kind of leaning towards Cam but I'm not sure how well he can create his own good shot when he is hounded at the end of a game. Maybe Caleb though I'm not sure he's a consistent enough shooter. Hyatt is the sleeper. And I think Simpson will be the guy a season or 2 down the line.

Or do you put the ball in Paul's hands and let him try to make something happen for either himself or someone else if there is enough time to dribble and create?

Big question that will definitely play itself out at some point this season.

NIL - what other schools (and Rutgers) are doing

Hey guys, I posted this on the RT but it's just a heads up as to what other schools are doing
Fascinating stuff, and it's only just begun...

NIL (Now It's Legal) is certainly evolving before our eyes
As you guys know, I'm an FSU first and Rutgers second, and actively follow / have tickets for / donate to both universities' collectives & teams

Noles currently have 3 collectives simultaneously going on
Note, this is not a wealthy fanbase by any stretch

Women's school until 1947
Constantly and still being held down by UF in statewide government issues
Not nearly the war chest of $$ the big boys have, nor the number of donors, no big $$ donor, not generations of doctors/lawyers/etc.
Always got by doing "the most with less"

The skinny:

Battles End
- newest collective, main goal is retention of current players. Football focused
www.on3.com

Battles End joins Florida State NIL collective market with plan for player retention

The Battles End has launched as the latest NIL collective to join the Florida State market with a focus on retention.

Rising Spear - The first collective they launched, merged with Warpath850 in the beta stages. Brokers deals, focuses on all sports, more so a mix of Battles End and Micconope 1851
https://risingspear.com/

Micconope 1851 - Focuses on current college athletes getting financial opportunities (think Caleb, Gavin, etc.)
http://micconope1851.com/

Knights of the Raritan (https://knightsoftheraritan.com/) and Knight Society are what we currently have. Each school does it differently with many different factors playing in (power players, big money donors, fan base, donor base, ex athletes being involved, etc.)

This is a great link showing what each school is doing
https://businessofcollegesports.com/tracker-university-specific-nil-collectives/

It will be interesting to see where this leads us. I firmly believe in NIL and hope we can get corporations / regular fans on board to at least compete in football, consistently make the tourney in bball, and be elite in Olympic sports

College sports is my passion, I love everything about it and sincerely hope that we can step up as a university and fanbase to compete with the big boys. The potential is there, and I'd love to see it come to fruition

Looking back at the PG recruiting from the portal...

My conclusion from tonight? This team is desperately missing a guy who can penetrate and make the defense move. In the endless Jacob Young thread last year I was pretty adamant that last year's team would not have been better with him. But that type of player is exactly what this year's team is missing.

March 22: Rutgers is reportedly in contact in Sam Sessoms (source: Twitter)

March 24: Rutgers is in contact with Ethan Wright. (source: Twitter)

March 25: Rutgers is in contact with Marcus Hammond (source is TOS, I won't link it)

April 1: Sam Sessoms releases top 6 that features UTEP, Coppin State, George Mason, Minnesota, Michigan, and Mississippi State. I'd like to believe that if Rutgers was truly serious they'd have been able to crack that top 6.

April 9: Ethan Wright commits to Colorado.

April 15: Marcus Hammond and Cam Spencer have visits planned to Rutgers (source: https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/threads/cam-spencer-and-marcus-hammond-visiting-next-week.239557/)

April 19: Cam Spencer commits (https://www.onthebanks.com/2022/4/1...ts-rutgers-basketball-big-ten-loyola-maryland)

April 20: Marcus Hammond commits to Notre Dame, it's reported that he no longer considered Rutgers, or Rutgers no longer considered him, after the Spencer commitment (https://www.zagsblog.com/2022/04/20/marcus-hammond-no-longer-considering-rutgers-notre-dame-up-next/)

April 28: Kyle Lofton enters the portal (https://buffalonews.com/sports/coll...cle_370d5cbe-c736-11ec-84e8-4f8427540716.html)

May 9: Kyle Lofton visits Rutgers (Twitter)

May 13: Kyle Lofton commits to Florida (https://www.si.com/college/florida/...-bonaventure-transfer-guard-kyle-lofton-signs)

My question is this:

At the very beginning of the portal period, Pikiell is in contact with Sam Sessoms. This suggests to me that he thinks he needs to add a point guard. But he evidently cools on Sessoms (or Sessoms cools on him, it doesn't matter) and instead turns his attention to a trio of 2 guards in Wright, Hammond, and Spencer. It seems kinda clear Wright was target #1 and then Hammond and Spencer were basically equal and whoever was willing to commit first was the one we'd take.

Now someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember Rutgers being linked to any PGs between Sessoms and Lofton. Meanwhile Cam Wynter committed to Penn State on April 14. Dashawn Davis committed to Mississippi State on April 11. Jao Ituka committed to Wake Forest on April 25. Tyree Appleby committed to WF on May 4. Al-Amir Dawes committed to Seton Hall on May 4.

How come Pikiell was apparently interested in a PG in March (Sessoms) and May (Lofton) but not in between? If we thought we needed a PG, why weren't we in on Cam Wynter? Or Dashawn Davis? Both of those guys are from NY originally. Shit, we'd be helped by Andre Curbelo.

I can’t buy in to the “we suck” thing.

this season has been disappointing to say the least but let’s relax a bit and rethink this. Entering this season we all knew that there were three really big “ifs” surrounding this team. One, how much better would the OL be with the new transfers and freshman. Two, how would the QB situation turn out. Three, the lack of depth at linebacker. Our overall defense, the line and the DB’s were considered by most as good, not great but good. The RB room was, again, good, not great but good. And the WR were supposed to be improved with the acquisition of Ryan and (that Syracuse transfer). Then that transfer left the team and the WR room took a big hit. So, the OL did improve some but not as much as we would have wanted but there is youth there. One of those frosh started yesterday so I expect the OL to get a little better next year (especially if Sutton returns and is as good as he was before his injury, unknown). Our QBs were decimated. Vedral played the first half of the year with what we now know was a broken hand, he couldn’t throw. Matt Millen even said on the air that Vedral “had a lot of hardware in there” referring to his hand. GW got his ankle injured in game two and was unavail for four or five games and Simon proved to be what he is, a third string backup. We played half a season without a QB. Who wins without a QB, NO ONE. until yesterday we were able to avoid injury to the LBs but then Jennings went down and MSU exploited Wright Collins over the middle. Next year we get Mo Toure back on the DL and Moses Walker in the LB core. Overall, as I see it we are still on an upward trajectory in regards to the talent level. Let’s see how that heralded recruiting class improves and the transfer portal emerges for next year. I may be accused of seeing through scarlet colored glasses but I think we are in better shape than our record indicates for next year.
