I think this team will be better than last year

I feel like everyone on team deferred to Geo and Harper, therefore there was a lot of indecision and standing around watching.

There is no question that Paul is this year’s leader and his unselfish play leads to games like yesterday where everyone got involved in rebounding, shooting, passing and defending. Paul is going to make Cliff such a better player than we have seen thus far. Guys like Caleb, Simpson, and Mag IMO are also going to flourish as a result of no longer relying on RHJ and Geo.

If we could limit Mag and Hyatt’s three point shooting and instead have them concentrate on blocks then sky’s the limit for this team. We need to maintain intensity on defense and rebounding.

OT: NJ Real ID

Posting this here for visability as this affects a lot of us who use air travel.

The implementation of Real ID in NJ has the potential to be a gargantuan cluster****, and it really isn't being reported on that much.

To give some context to this thread, I was due for a license renewal at the end of September. I called my local MVC office in August to inquire about Real ID and how to get one. The person assisting me told me not to worry, and that ALL new IDs being issued in the state would be Real IDs starting August 1st. So I went to the MVC and went about my business getting it renewed all while being told my new ID would be compliant ( I provided the additional points of ID it requires).

Fast forward to yesterday and I came across an NJ101.5 article that someone posted on social media talking about Real ID. I opened it as my new ID looked different from the one in the article and sure enough, I wasn't issued a REAL ID like I was told I would. In fact, NJ didn't start issuing REAL IDs until September and is ONLY issuing them at 2 locations in the state (Trenton and Eatontown). Not only that, but it's by appointment only and apparently there is a multiple month long waiting list!

So, had anyone else gone through the process of getting one? I showed people in my office (a large chunk who travel) and no one knew anything about these new regs. Seems like a huge pain and there is a real likelihood that hundreds of thousands are going to be turned away at Newark come October. Government bureaucracies are a mess in general but I haven't seen something like this yet.

BTN's Comment About Cliff Choosing Rutgers

Essentially, Cliff chose Rutgers to stay close to home during the Covid pandemic.

Making that comment while the walls were coming down yesterday, the noise level raising the roof.... after Simpson showed ELITE athleticism -seemed like sour grapes. I don't suppose any Indy players chose the Hoosers because of Covid as opposed to their history, movie, lore. Favoritism 😡!

Loved the final results with RU pulling away from Indy Whoosiers again.... seemed like a better promo for Dylan, Donnie and whomever else was watching!

Oh yeah....and WE WANT DYlan Harper!!!

MO

3 players who stuck out to me at the non-public state championship games yesterday

1) quincy porter, wr bergen catholic class of 2025. Imo the best player on the state. This kid is a freak.

2) derek zammit- qb depaul class of 2026. A FRESHMAN started and looked comfortable out there. I cant recall a frosh ever starting for one of the big north schools at qb. Kids gonna be special

3) Lamont Lester- edge class of 2024 don bosco. In the first half when it was actually a game he was wreaking havoc on the BC OL on pass plays and blowing up run plays. Might be too much of a tweener though at the next level.

Wasnt impressed AT ALL by dj samuels and thank god we didnt offer him. Sydir mitchell was very ehhh too. Chase bistontis is a mauler though, total stud

The Pacheco Lesson

Pacheco's situation tells us much about the state of RU football affairs. Much hand wringing occurs here about coaching, schemes and the many reasons RU struggled this year. Pacheco's situation should bring the issues into more clarity.

What is that situation? One year ago Pacheco started at RU as a rb and did not register a 100 yard game. Total of over 640 yards. Had many plays drawn up for him and emphasis in the offense was not the issue.

One year later, he has a 100+ yard game in the NFL. Against infinitely better competition. What does it tell us? That he is now surrounded by talent that is at or exceeds his competition-but while at RU he was surrounded by talent below the majority of the teams played. No scheming could overcome getting hit before the line of scrimmage, or having no holes. And when injuries occurred, including to the OL, there was no depth to keep things from falling off worse.

RU is playing at a talent deficiency in most games, and worse, at a depth deficiency. The latter makes games later in the season (when it was Mich MSU PSU) all the more challenging, as an already tilted talent differential, became even more pronounced.

Looking at the entire schedule I would say RU had:
- a talent advantage in 2 definite games (Temple and Wagner)
-a talent toss up against BC and Indiana (perhaps better than Indiana but close)
-a talent differential in 8 other games

A 4-8 record can be construed as winning two toss up games talent wise. Our local media and posters somehow issue predictions that presume RU has talent sufficient to win B10 games (not when pushed though) with Nebraska Iowa and MSU. It's just not so. Those would all have bene upsets. Thus, the Pacheco lesson should tell us somewhat what to expect, and should note that two toss ups were won. 4-8 with this lesson in hand is not not terribly unexpected.

Was there coaching issues that made situations worse-yes definitely. Did it tilt outcomes--can argue Iowa and Nebraska but then you have to give advantage to BC and Indiana wins so it's at best a wash.

Can make an argument that the team and coaches overperformed against Mich and PSU until the talent differential caught up (as did the experience differential at qb).

Thus, yes the offsides on kickoffs were maddening. Not pulling an upset is a bummer. But some perspective on what we are dealing with is needed. RU won the games it should have-also won two toss ups, but won none it was trying for an upset (even slight ones). Talent and DEPTH is needed to get over the hump. Yes coaching needs to re-evaluate but to ignore the obvious Pacheco lesson misses the main point. Lewis, Powell, Melton, Hamilton, Bailey, Brown, Monangai and Long are all players who can compete in B10 games. But more are needed, especially on O and especially at wr and likely OL. This is the lesson we are hit over the head with. We have talent to hang in there for awhile-but not get over the top. And coaching didnt this year tip any non toss up games. Both are needed to notch some B 10 wins, with the talent and depth clearly being the main issue.
