4th & 13 from our 40 vs a 58 yd FG - 14 sec to go

Bielema sent out his K to attempt a 58 yd FG into a swirling wind, down 1, on 4th & 13 from our 40 yd line with 14 sec to go. Sounds crazy, right? Well, considering the circumstances, was that the higher percentage call than leaving the O on the field? Not only did ILL have to get a 13 yd First down on that play, they needed to either score a TD OR get down with no timeouts, clock the ball, and then have their K hit a 40+ yd FG into that same wind.

Schiano made an error in the timing of his timeout, not that he took it. Certainly a mistake but IMHO it should not have been catastrophic.

OT: Temple Football program to be "assessed"

New Temple President says they will assessing the program after the firing of the head coach. When he was Drexel's president in 2016, he wrote an op-ed "We're Glad We Say No To College Football" 👀👀👀

Doesn't sound promising for the program to stay at the FBS level, if they keep the program at all.

KC DL Wharton Catches Boy That Fell Out of the Stands!

KC Chiefs DL catches boy falling out of the stands

KC Chiefs DL Tershawn Wharton catches a young fan that fell out of the stands when seeking an autograph. It was an awesome scene and a clean catch (the kid was unhurt)

It’s a good thing Wharton wasn’t a receiver, the kid would have very likely been injured when the receiver spiked him in celebration of his catch 😂

Defense ….pay attention and seperate the issues

while there is more than two diffenet things going on here ….i see two very different “catagories” ….and offer some comments for discussion

1.) slow recognition . The biggest part
We have a lot of guys (especially the frosh) learning to conquer the mental part is the defense on a new level . This included getting OVER high ball screens , proper hedging on defending ball screens , recognition of the rotation to help not just on the ball, but the wings gettinf into
Position to replace the guy helping the stop dribble penetration ( and a LOT of our rebounding issues on the defensive boards are a result of these massively late rotations )

The good news is Jwill gets it and gets it done , and I expect ace , Dylan , and derkack to eventually get there when they get the mental part and be much bwtter

The wild card is

Sommwrville …who has the lateral quickness , and agility to get it ….but when will the mental part come ?

if hayes and martini and Ogobke can at least get the mental part of it to be serviceable ….it can settle things down

I’m also concerned about Jmike …whose defnese as soon as his guy gets inside the paint has issues (lack of size is part of it ) and acuff , until I see him shake the rust, is a wild card

But I think a lot of getting the mental part will come sooner or later …and then it will settle down. Who starts to get us sooner will dictate op petition to carve out their role as bigger . Are you liateninf Latham, PJ and Zach???

2.) the sexond part …and I allude to it in part one , is breaking down who has the physical attribute to play better and who doesn’t

in short …I do think if we don’t see guys steer to gettinf the mental part of it at the four and five spot, we will need to see an introduction uo front of a guy like grant (if he gets it, and assumption on my part based on his attributes as a high school player whixh may not translate until he gets time on the court ) because we can’t have guys at the four and five play if they don’t have the attributes AND at least can’t make it up with mentally playing it perfect (an

Ogobke and Martini issues inside in not being the right place exaggerate their below average skills on interior defense ….and if they can’t sort that out soon, we will need to arrange things on who can if it means giving ip sone offense .

A lot of our rebounding issues stem from not being in the right place on defense …but if and when thar gets fixed ….its going to be about closing out the box out and then getting the rebound …and if a few of the guys can’t get it done being in the right position, they will
Need to take a back seat in the rotation to the guys who will

I have confidence that we can find guys on this roster to regularly getting us to 75-80.

Who gets the guys to the defense to also help the rebounding is going to dictate the minute when it matters most

Until then …only Jwill, (because he defends) , ace and Dylan (because they have the physical tools to be solid to good defenders once they get the metal part ) …are in

Early handicaps is Derkack will figure it out and join thar group for a regular 20 min role

I’m waiting for the others to show they get it …and at least maintain assignment defense … that will shake oht the other 95-100
Minutes of playing time …..

From start to finish, a masterpiece production from the entire Rutgers community, program and fanbase

So last night was something else eh. Not exaggerating but besides the Louisville game in 2006, there has never been a day/night that had the COMPLETE FINISH THE JOB play and atmosphere of the Washington game. So many supposed "big games" in the past that never lived up to the hype. Whether it was the promise of hanging in vs Penn State at Giants Stadium in the 80s, being desperate for attention and validity in failed games vs BC and Syracuse in the 90s, the Lucy take the football away moments vs West Virginia in the 00s, the Big East championship near miss vs Louisville under Flood and finally the emergence of the big time, big light crowds against the likes of Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State in the 10s. Those games brought the peeps in. The tailgates were wild. The opening minutes of these games usually pretty hyped and insane but alas with the exception of a win vs a Michigan team that wasnt good that year, all those games had one thing in common. They gave a bit of a taste of big time, Big 10 atmosphere but never delievered. In fact some of the games were over by haltime. Whats the point of all the hype and drunken tailgates if the program has trouble staying within 35 points of any program with a pulse. Like an endless cycle, after years of trying to prove they belonged in big boy college football, Rutgers was there but the feeling was empty. Here we are but what does that even mean. Does it even matter?

Last night was a 24 hour finish the job chop from the expanded Rutgers community. From the production of the lights, the drones, the band. That takes a whole lot of work and planning to make it come together and make it work and last night was brilliance. Rutgers football was a true event last night. The type of experience that will make the next game and the next game after that a hot ticket. Contrast that to the complaints about the drab, boring, forced atmosphere in games vs Howard and Akron where it appeared as if the fans, team and staff were all sleepwalking through. Rutgers fans take a bowl The fans were a big part of last night too. Howling and screaming in all the important parts. Willing that last fg attempt to miss miserably. True not a full sellout, but that is okay. The fanbase still has room to grow. Last night helps alot. The Rutgers pregame and tailgating atmosphere is back again after years of dormancy. If we only can somehow get the students an area to tailgate and be a part of the on campus festivities things could really get wild. The student turnout was impressive last night. In their seats early, cheered and danced like mother****ers all game and stayed to the triumphant end. It all came together last night and when it does you make note of it in your memory

No doubt the Ash years were as big of a stain as the Terry Shea years. Wrong coach at the wrong time. Schiano was the right coach at the right time. As everyone is well aware I have not been shy about criticizing Schiano especially his plateau after the 2006 season. Have been more on board with him the 2nd time around while realizing the things about him that make me hit my head against the wall are the same reasons why he is so successful at pushing the right buttons for the Rutgers program. Last season was true progression. Beating BC and Va Tech were a leap forward. Unfortunately we were stuck with a poor quarterback that could not throw for a lick and it really showed as Rutgers stumbled against the better teams in the Big 10. Now with Athan, Rutgers isnt about just trying to eek out a win 10-9. Athon can actually throw. He ismt a goddamn turnover machine waiting to happen. We have a OC who can actually mix up the plays. Kyle and Sam are a potent combo. In some ways our offense has now become more of a strength. Much more versatile and unpredictable than our opponents are used to.

At the end of the day, I am at the point of quibbling about style points in wins. Box score is full of ugliness....521-299 yards. You can pull your hair out on why RU called an awful series coming out of halftime or the last series of downs just so damn predictable in not getting the first down. I do not want to hear anything about luck or Rutgers was outplayed or Washingtons lack of discipline gifted us this win. At the end of the day its a victory and its glorious period. No team is perfect and certainly Rutgers is not. I do know they are 4-0 and they now have an opportunity in their next biggest game to have another opportunity to have an even bigger opportunity at home. See how this works. It does not work if you cannot finish the job and that is all tha matters from the last 2 wins vs very very very respectable programs.

Atmospheres like last night get noticed. So today wear your Rutgers gear with pride. Brag and boast you had an incredible time at the game last night. Make your skeptical friends think they are missing out on something because they are.

Schiano outsmarts Bielema

So we have to go back to 2021

RU trailed Illinois, but then got 10 points to take a late lead
20-14, at their place

With 3:53 to go, Illinois started from their 25 after our kickoff, and moved down field, mixing runs and passes, to get it to the RU 34_yard line

At the 34, they faced a 4th and short yard to go

Illinois went into formation, Greg called a time out to talk to the defense, after seeing the Illinois setup

Instead of taking the ball up the middle, the ball was pitched to their running Brown, attempting to take it outside
around the left....

One of the RU players Greg first spoke to during the preceding timeout was Abraham, who was responsible for the left side

Abraham ran with Brown and swept his feet, knocking him down, behind the line of scrimmage, and ending the Illinois possession, with about a minute left in the game

Greg looked very smart that day, Bielema had to.answer questions as to why they went outside on a, short yard to go situation

As far as I am concerned, Bielema. is more subject to late game errors, he made one running the field goal unit out in our last game also

Except this time, the timeout by RU killed us, the other, it was a key to victory

As a side note, I have kept the DVR recording of that sequence, because it is one of my favorite all-time plays

Very Nervous but I think Notre Dame is a must win.

It is only November but with the loss in Georgia and the game after being Bama on a back to back this is a must win in November for this team to reach potential otherwise the wheels could fall off fast. Not saying Pike Dosent go all out each game but I almost think he’s got to coach it like an elimination game, otherwise the hole to dig out of will be big.
