“Sharing the game”

Ball movement and passing is contagious in a good way. When everyone else is sharing the ball it's fun and no one wants to look like the ball hog

The biggest difference is the passing this year. Good hard over the head passes and spacing so we are getting good looks. We will become a tough foe by January in the BIG as this team gets some experience playing together.

This was always a huge pet peeve of mine. It's the little things at this level. You watch teams like Duke play, and the ball moves with purpose and at the right spots, especially for catch and shoots.

Especially under Eddie, our passing was God awful. Guys routinely had to collect themselves before doing anything. Good passing is the oil in the machine.

And it’s not just the guy with the ball in his hand. Teammates have to know when and where to make cuts and how to read the floor’s geography.

And, btw, those minutes before halftime vs Drexel, the team got carried away with itself, throwing cross court, no look passes. The were caught up in the crowd.

Agree! Moving without the ball is key, and not emphasized IMHO under Eddie.

The other pet peeve I had before Pike got here was guys would set picks for our guards, then roll, but would not get the ball passed to them from the guard, as you would want in a simple pick and roll play, even though they were often wide open in the paint when they rolled.

Now guys are getting passes from anywhere and everywhere — backdoor cuts, alley-oops, you name it. Guys just know a pass could come at anytime and they’re ready. That’s the fun of sharing the game.

Not to bash Eddie, but the WORST thing he ever said was that he didn't coach players to rebound, because it was not something you could teach - you either knew how to rebound or you didn't. My head almost exploded. Pike comes in and says that our identity will be to contest every shot and rebound like crazy. And, the team did exactly that.

The beauty of this is that it will become the signature style of play for us and new players coming into the program will buy into it from day 1. We will recruit these types of players, example Mulcahy.
