19 players out of scrimmage due to injury

I read the article and it said 18, you say 19...everything is a lie!!!!

in all seriousness, how many of these players would be out for a real game? tis the question.

18 on the official report, Caroo added later = 19

"Wide receiver Leonte Carroo isn't on the injury report, but Flood held him out of the scrimmage"

What a joke! Are these football players or what ? Why bother to scrimmage ? What kind of conditioning are they getting that they can't handle a few bumps and bruises.

I guess Norfolk St will be a glorified scrimmage for the starters. Let's hope.

Anyone read 'The Junction Boys" ? Somewhere Bear Bryant is turning in his grave.

I have mixed emotions about pulling players for a scrimmage. This is definitely a better practice than what they normally do, but it also opens the injury door a lot wider when you have kids who are trying to move up the depth ladder.
Truthfully, I will be glad when the Howards and Norfolk Sts. are off the schedule too. Losing these games ( I know...New Hampshire) is extremely unlikely but the injury list can still take its toll. I am hoping that all of the Div. 1 schools are forced to go with FCS schools only like the BIG is already instituting. Plenty of cupcakes still out there.

He said the 18 was mix of precaution an some legitimate concerns. Certain names on that list are much more critical than others. Sounds like Hamilton has not practiced a lot this fall. Hopefully James is not seriously injured.

Good. He was an idiot. Do want or coaches to withhold water too?

WATER NO ! Gatorade Yes ! 6 National Championships ! The Jigg is Up , you're the IDIOT ! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
He may have won but his tactics make Mike Rice look soft. The post mentioning Bryant was endorsing his tactics which were idiotic. Fortunately for him the other coaches in his time period were no wiser. Fortunately for us we don't do those kinds of things.

It was the way things were done until recently. We had triple sessions in the late 60s and early 70s, with little water.. Live hitting at 2 of the 3 sessions. If you were hurt, you rarely got an Xray, let alone a CAT scan or MRI. You got maybe some hot balm put on and told to walk it off. If you were too hurt to practice, you often risked losing your starting position. A concussion then was called getting your bell rung . Guys who stood on the sidelines hurt during practice were called pussies.
Now imagine playing in the 50s. What Bryant did was no different than his peers, except he won more. A whole lot more. Accepted practices have changed, not only in football, but in life.

Hamilton not practicing a lot is worrisome if it is a lingering injury that's taking a long time to heal.
RU needs him at his best or the D line might not be the strength we think it will be.

Yes. I realize that. You're original post read as an endorsement of those things for which we now know better. Even Bryant later admitted that his tactics were dumb and a form of abuse.

Yeah. In the 50s people didn't sit around hanging out on a message board day in and day out critiquing the greater merits of other people not being tough or not working hard enough.

Indeed ! But those who lived through it, then relayed it to others, and then it was written about (The Junction Boys), then it was discussed, then a movie was made, then College teams have scrimmages and 1/4 of them sits out w injuries and then those w computers and internet connections talk about it.

And here we .

On the other hand, in the 50's the players were much smaller and slower - less chance of serious injury during contact. I remember Rutgers having one OT that weighed 210 and he was the biggest guy on the line.
