McDermott and Aguilar both got teched in their opening round matchups. Neither looked very sharp.

McDermott looked undersized and not in shape which is a diasterous combination.

McDermott took way too many shots without his hips underneath him. I know all too well how that ends. Not going to take a bigger man down shooting like that. Needs more movement in the hand fight as well. Too many collar ties and no foot movement following.

I saw it further up on the board, but the one I’m most excited to see is, a now healthy, Ryan Vulakh. The coaching staff is very high on him. Hoping to see a lot of promise out of him this weekend.

Donner gets teched as well. Just like Aguilar, zero offense. Their lack of freestyle experience is extremely apparent.

Esposito gets the tech and will face Youssif Hemida in the next round

Aguilar wins by tech in the 2nd. Looked much better this match. Much more aggressive.

It's the opponent that often makes a wrestler look good or bad.

For sure, but McDermott and Aguilar were both sluggish and frankly lazy in their first matchups. It appeared they weren't ready to wrestle and it showed. Matchups play a huge part of the end result but based on what we saw intially, they weren't beating anyone with those efforts.

Didn't see the MVB match but looks like he lost a close one and Donner got the tech to advance in the consolation bracket.

Not a fan of McDermott. Essentially quits. If guy was choking me like that I would be furious. He has skills but definitely question his heart and stamina

Yeah, not a great showing for him. It's obvious why Goodale called him out about getting in better shape.

Not a good showing be the U23 guys. Hope the juniors perform better. Only Donner remains. Maybe Goodale is playing more golf than coaching.

I'm going to reserve any judgement given that it's a preseason freestyle tournament and it's clear that many of those guys have little or no high level freestyle experience but it was definitely a disappointing start.

Besides MVB, have any of the Wrestlers today had a match at the NCAA Championships?
I like Aguilar and MVB but both are long shots to all american, much less medal at the U23/Junior Championships.
Had their opponents? I don't know - am asking. I do think Aguilar has a shot if he keeps showing year over year improvement. I hope he does.

No one at the U-23 has wrestled an NCAA tournament match(MVB has not yet). With the guys that were there today, not really sure why some are surprised by the results. Only one I am a little surprised was Aguilar, who lost to two back ups and Aguilar has alot of Freestyle experience.
