2023 Newcomers

Davis 49% from 3 his junior year. Even if that stat is inflated he had to have shot at least a good percentage. That's very encouraging and I was already very high on Davis from early on. If he can shoot a solid percent from 3 oooo baby
49% from 3 is as predictive as his 12 rebounds a game that year
Super high on him but it’s not for his rebounding or 3 point shooting if he’s just decent as a 3 point shooter that’s huge

JaMike looks to be a nice mid-major player. …High skill level and good athleticism but a problematic lack of size. I don’t seehim being a great finisher at the rim in the BIG so hopefully he doesn’t force too much in the land of giants.
With good ball movement this team might be very good offensively in the half-court with three really good shooters from deep on the floor at the same time at times. Question is: Can they be Iowa-good?

Stats on MaxPreps are whatever coaches want them to be
He might have done it, I could see him doing that at Class 3-5 in CT for sure.
Stats are often coach or even player reported. When I was involved in softball would go in to look and see girls hitting 1200 etc. The stats reported were a joke.

How tf did jaMichael get 13 boards a game lmao
It might be the competition... Jamichael played his junior year at a relatively small school up in the northwest corner of Georgia. Lakeview-Ft.Oglethorpe has about 1000 students in grades 9-12. Jamichael was the Catoosa County player of the year last year. If he was far superior athletically to most other athletes in the area, which he probably was, I'd imagine he could do very well in most stat categories, including rebounding even at his size. (It's not like he's another Muggsy Bogues..)

😉

I'm not sure how you hit 1200 - LOL
But it's the same idea with hoops and MaxPreps stats - HS coaches put in whatever they want for their players.

Mid major and lack of size... 😂. I agree, there is no place in college basketball for fast 6'2" guards.

Land of the giants, lol.

Do you mean all those B1G teams with those giant front lines that run 7'0, 6'9" and 6'7" like it's 1995 ?

I actually mean the opposite of what you think I meant if he polishes his game and doesn’t force shots. Every year, mid-majors kick butt in the NCAA tourney with guys like JaMike.

Mid-major in terms of size is what I said. Tom Izzo doesn’t even recruit guards who don’t look like football players. Watching highlights of guys finishing at the rim against other high-school guys doesn’t impress me. JaMike’s three point form and efficiency look like they will carry over to the BIG. Noah Fernandes has a lot of mid-major to him as well. There I said it! 😂

It is unbelievable to me that some posters label players without having seen them in person for a reasonable amount of time. Youtube doesn't count. It is insulting both to the player as well as the current coaching staff, which, with very few exceptions over five plus years, f has recruited players who are far more than "mid major."

One of the 20 players on this list is 6'5", one is 6'4", and one is 6'3". The other 17 players are 6'2" or (in most cases) shorter. I think Jamichael Davis will be just fine in the B1G.

Of course, that was at the beginning of the year. The five finalists ended up being Markquis Nowell, 5'8", Yuri Collins 6'0", Boo Buie 6'2", Tyler Kolek 6'3", and Jalen Pickett, 6'4".. FYI, the eventual winner of the award as the top point guard was 5'8" and 160lbs.

Jalen Pickett looks like a linebacker. Purdue could have used some “mid-major guards” on their roster the past two seasons, no?

You have no clue what you are talking about....lol @Tom Izzo recruiting guards that look like football players. I assume you do know that every MSU recruiting class since 2003 is a few clicks away.

I've stayed away from the comments trying to label Davis as a mid major player, but it doesn't take too long to figure out. If you watch skill level and ability to play through contact, that usually makes up for lack of height.

Davis is 1 offseason away from becoming a very dangerous, high level 2-way guard. He plays with intensity and has a level of athletic ability that is pretty good. His skill level is above average.

As a comparison to another former RU recruit, in Montez Mathis, Davis exceeds Mathis in every skill level of basketball terms.....he's just not 6'4 and built like Mathis was. Once his body catches up to his skill level (similar to Simpson), fans will see a complete player.

As physically gifted as Mathis was, his skill level just never approached on tape, what Davis has showcased on tape. Ability to change direction, using both hands and scoring, ability to change speeds and direction etc.

I'm not worried at all about the guards we have in place as of today, they just need minutes in November and December and they'll start to click. Once we add that guard/wing player that I'm anticipating RU will add in the next 3 or so weeks, that player will provide a buffer on how to play both ends of the court. Davis and Simpson are pretty encouraging, based on how I evaluate players. I just see upside here.

Well damn! It’s a good thing Tom Izzo isnt our coach!

This.

And no one complained about JY’s size either! And, we’re getting a player earlier in his career than JY so there ain’t the baggage Young had…

JY truly has elite athleticism
Yeah, Jacob was definitely athletic, and when most of us first saw him play he was already 22 years old... As a freshman at Texas he shot 28% from the floor and 22% from 3 PT, and he needed time to develop.... I'll be curious to see how Jamichael Davis' stats compare during his freshman year here.

I suggest a writing class, because you don’t convey what you think you are conveying.

This thread needs to keep going until October at least.
Will certainly be an undersized “mid-major-esque” backcourt this season...with Noah, JaMike and Simpson.
Michigan St went out and grabbed a skinny 6’0” guard originally from a NH high-school and transfer from mid-major Northeastern U. a couple years ago... And Tyson Walker was MSU’s leading scorer last season. I can guarantee that Izzo didn’t recruit that kid out of high-school. And Geo probably agrees that New Hampshire isn’t really known for producing top-200 nationally high-school basketball players.🤔

Would you call yourself a mid-major fan?

Tell that to Braden Smith, just under 10pm for Perdue and under 6 feet.
