OT: Syracuse’s New Fieldhouse opening next month

If we had a Fieldhouse, our talent level, especially on our offense, would have been much better

Why do we need better offensive talent?

You should talk to this guy.
He said our offense has Heisman caliber WR and All-America caliber OL.

Injuries took away our chances of a special season. Millers 10 catches for 131 yards against USC certainly was Heisman caliber

Nobody makes me bite my tongue or get me to almost break my own rule about forum conduct than this guy. He's a gem. The biggest thing is he's serious and not some future "ha ha. I got you guys all those years with my schtick" poster.

I’m not sure why everyone thought we had depth. It was a miracle to get all the guys to comeback for one more year. But it just wasn’t meant to be.
Greggie told us we “finally” had depth, that’s why.

Should we have not believed him?

Looks that way, but he’s the guy that should know best, no?

I’d add, it’s his job for which he’s extremely highed compensated.
The contract spelling out the terms for his high compensation also specifies that Rutgers will pursue the construction of a Fieldhouse. So there is a tacit understanding that in order for Schiano to achieve maximum performance in said job, the Fieldhouse must be built. Yet, here we are, 5 years later, and not only has Rutgers not built the Fieldhouse, a significant recruiting competitor of Rutgers, Syracuse, HAS built a Fieldhouse, impairing his ability to do his job, which may affect our recruiting going forward. Not only has Syracuse built their Fieldhouse, but Maryland has also built theirs. Making his job more difficult than it was 5 years ago.

Having depth and needing an entire new squad are two different things.

On 9/1 we did have depth. On 10/5, our depth disappeared.

That field house better have a top-notch sports medicine and orthopedic surgery center attached to it, because that's what Rutgers needs.

That makes absolutely no sense.

We lost players due to injury. Having depth means that there is not such a steep drop off between the 1s and the 2s.

Guess what, there’s been a yuuggge drop off.

Yea let’s spend money on 6-7 non revenue sports to the tune of 250M. When you could have consolidated it into 1-2 projects that services the entire athletic department for about the same money.
Speaking of the Rodkin Academic Success Center, how are our Men's Soccer and Men's Lacrosse teams doing, now that they've received their own facility? Same crappy results, but I guess they're getting outstanding academic support! Once again, Rutgers is 30 years late on what's important.

On 9/1, he reasonably believed that he had depth because the reserves played well in their reserve roles, and thought they could start, given the opportunity. 10/5 was the first time we realized the reserves were not ready to start, when they actually got their opportunity.

So then we don’t have depth, and that was contrary to what he told us.

Good. Don't build the fieldhouse and perhaps he will leave

If everyone else has a strong Fieldhouse, it won’t provide an advantage. UCLA also has a very nice facility, which opened in 2017.

We are at a disadvantage because almost everyone else has a nicer facility, compared to ours. This puts us at a recruiting disadvantage.

Oregon’s facility was ranked #1, and they are expanding it. No wonder why they are currently ranked #1 in the country.

I just read an article about UCONN basketball and why they don't want a nice facility. You go there to work, it's not a spa. All the recruits know that. On top of that it's in the middle of no where. Get top coaches/great offensive philosophy here and make that the draw.

Adonis Al of La Mancha - do you lick Schiano’s shoes while he’s got them on or sneak a taste of another pair without him knowing ? And, what do they taste like ?

I wasn't sure, either. It's been hard enough to find B1G level starters, let alone adequate backups.

What do you mean they don’t want a nice facility? They already have a nice facility as does Villanova. That’s partially why their programs experienced success while ours was sucking wind for the longest time.

Their facility is just a basketball practice center. What do you expect this field house to have besides a practice field, gym and office/meeting rooms? We already have a great practice facility.

I'm curious. What palatial fieldhouse did the University of Miami have when they won 5 National Championships between 1983-2001?

Why should recruits choose when Syracuse can give them both?
Why are you dying on this hill? At one time, facilities were the driving force to lure recruits to certain schools. Now, greenbacks have more pull. You don't see facilities being built at the rate they once were 15 or 20 years ago. The arms race has morphed into the NIL race.

He's just making excuses on why he is wrong every year. Same shit every year.

Fieldhouses weren’t invented yet. Instead Miami had amazing other types of support AL will tell us about. Maybe it was the campus pool or a futuristic library. Or the variety of grass at the Orange Bowl.

And how palatial are Army and Navy's field houses?
To be fair, those programs have lots of statues. Recruits are drawn to statues. We only have one. Adonis Al of La Mancha also proposes a 50 foot tall golden status of Schiano in front of the east gate and an even bigger one in Johnson Park.

We need more statues, ain’t that right Adonis Al ?

Schiano says he needs it, though NIL is more important.

I expect it to better match what our competitors offer. Rutgers commissioned a study which found our football facility was not competitive with similar big ten facilities. Anyone visiting Maryland, Syracuse, and Rutgers facilities on consecutive days would reasonably conclude that Rutgers isn’t as committed to football success

Rutgers didn’t even have a basketball practice facility until the APC opened.

What is more relevant is UConn has a better football facility than Rutgers. The Burton Family Football Complex. Freakin UConn! With an independent schedule and no conference. So why should UConn have a better football complex than Rutgers?

You are doing a great job of making topics that drive recruits to other programs. Think before you post.

Your offense doesn’t cease to function for two full games because of ONE injury to your left guard.
You are not remotely a high caliber team if your offensive output is dependent on the health of one offensive lineman
The facts say otherwise. We scored 7 points against Wisconsin and 7 points against Nebraska.
You’re right that we’re not the high caliber team we thought we were.

But the offense did rebound with 32 points against UCLA and 20 points against USC. Let’s see what happens this week.

If my posts drive recruits to other programs, then we’ve got bigger problems. This issue must be resolved if Rutgers Football is to realize its full potential. Ignoring it isn’t going to make it go away.

Haven't we had good/decent recruiting classes since Schiano came back?

Doesn't seem we lose a lot of guys. Definitely not to the draft, but to transfer either.

We will continue to recruit good classes, but it will be more difficult to do so given Syracuses success. Fran Brown now has something he didn’t previously have: credibility, results, and a fine football facility. A lot of effort already goes into finding and vetting players that are suitable for Rutgers. Now more effort will be needed.

They went to a BCS bowl. We didn’t.

The field house is just an excuse for you and Schiano to string us along. He needs to show results now. If he does, maybe people get on board and it gets built. However his track record shows a ceiling of 10 wins in a weak conference. The best we can ever expect with him in the B1G is 7-8 wins. We need a coach with a modern offense. Otherwise we are going no where.

Going to be crazy when they are in the Patriot League. No one will out recruit them.

Would agree UConn shouldn't have better football complex.
But it shouldn't matter. Similar to Syracuse.

Has UConn passed us too then?
