Wrestling 2025 NCAA Tourney thread

Man this production is awful! The wrestling community needs to demand better. Don’t know how stadium tech and on air production could get much worse.

I just scrolled through - seems RU gave up two upsets, got one upset, one expected win, one expected loss, won one tossup, one tossup to go. Is this really so far short of anyone's expectations?

Not really. It is about what was expected based on this season. It's maybe a bit short of expectations overall though where fans would like to see guys in contention to place.

First three were not inspiring and some looked absolutely awful. Clark got us back on track then Walsh and Yara did well. It's a rolling thread of in the moment, not an end of day 1 summary.

Haven’t been able to follow much, but saw some recent updates.
Looks like some guys are on a decent track right now, right?

Things are going to seed rn except, Clark pulled off a small upset.. Olivieri lost pretty badly in a small upset, Shawver lost as a pretty big fav

I think the Shawver loss is the one that is rough. Returning AA and B10 Champ losing to a 23. Yes there are other upsets in the Tourney but many viewed him and Peterson as our best AA chances. I think if we went 5-2 everyone would be ok. Looked at 41 and 84 as toss ups. Clark was a nice surprise

I think the timing of the two guys going down back to back very early in the round just created a sense of doom. Things leveled out after that.

Next Match Ups:

125: Dean Peterson (1-0) vs. Richard Figueroa (Arizona State)
133: Dylan Shawver (0-1) vs. Kai Orine (NC State)
141: Joseph Olivieri (0-1) vs. Jordan Titus (West Virginia)
149: Andrew Clark (1-0) vs. Shayne Van Ness (Penn State)
174: Jackson Turley (0-1) vs. Dan Braunagel (Illinois)
184: Shane Cartagena-Walsh (1-0) vs. Carter Starocci (Penn State)
285: Yaraslau Slavikouski (1-0) vs. Gable Steveson (Minnesota)

This is going to be a very tough round going up 2 #1 seeds who are both multi-time NCs, another PSU wrestler, a 2x AA in Orine, and last years NC in Figueroa.

Turley has already beaten Braunagel this year, but who knows what Turley shows up tonight.

Olivieri should be favored over Titus so that's should be the highest/best chance for a win.

Going 1-7 next round would be brutal.. not expecting any crazy upsets but having some of our bigger named guys go 0-2 would be a bummer.. and also going into this year who woulda thought we potentially won’t even have one quarter finalist…

Hoping we can win 3 next round.. 4 would be amazing comeback.
