6 recruits flip from Western Michigan to Minnesota on P.J. Fleck's first day

It's not that difficult to bring your recruits from WMU to a B1G program. I bet there are more WMU commits who are waiting for their offer to follow the Pied Piper.

The media is posting this story like it's a big deal. So he flipped 3 3* MAC recruits to a friggin B1G team. I'm sure that's real hard to do. Without Fleck Western Michigan goes back to being irrelevant just like Utah after they lost Urban Meyer.

Dumbest post in awhile. Really, you're going to compare year one for Fleck at Minny to year 1 at RU?!?!? Talk about clueless. Face meet palm
I dont agree with his comments but for different reasons than most of you. MInn has likely been recruiting similar to RU which is what most of you are thinking is a big difference and would be wrong. But Ash also changed the Offense which we saw was tough when Schiano tried it in 2010 against a much easier schedule. So there is that factor.

I think the biggest killer for Ash was all of the players we lost. Woukd have been nice to have a grown men like Razohn Gross, Barnwell and Deion Stephonson instead of a bunch if wet behind the ears kids tryjng to make plays in the BIG. Even just special teams would have inproved.

I dont follow Minny but if they lose or have been losing depth the past 3 years then these situations are similar. Also, Minny plays an easier schedule and we almost beat them in their house this past year so how much better do you really think they are right now?

Schiano ruined the best QB we ever had by doing that "wild knight" BS. Kid was a Freshman All American.

Utah may not be as relevant as they were under Meyer but they have a solid program. I would have no problem if RU had a Utah type of program. It is very competitive.

Minnesota could be in the same situation. Have they made a final determination on the 10 players who were suspended for the group activity with the coed? Will there be a notice of sanctions since they all admitted a recruit was part of the "train"? Or is RU the only school that self reports and gets a notice of sanctions?

If this happened at Rutgers, wonder what the fallout would have been.

Do you think before you post? Whittingham has been to a bunch of bowl games and has had many seasons at Utah when he won 9 games or more . One of those seasons he was 13-0 and beat Alabama in the sugar bowl.
Sounds conpletely irrelevant to me. Sign Rutgers up for that!

Utah went 13-0 in 2008 (4 years after Urban Meyer left) and finished 2nd in the AP poll after beating Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

I almost stopped when I read Minny has been recruiting similarly to RU. If you regrade the 2013 and 2014 classes, we're probably dead last in the big. Losing Barnwell, Stephenson, etc hurt but it wouldn't make much of a difference. Flood's classes have been awful. WMU may have outrecruited once or twice. Btw, just because we almost beat Minny, doesn't mean we're close to them. They play very consistent football. Iowa beat Michigan but barely beat us. Would you say Iowa is almost as good as Umich? No

Utah is a bad example, Cincinnati after Brian Kelly is probably the better example. Boise State is still good but they arent' as dominant as they were when Pederson was there.

They went 13-0 under Kyle 4 years after Urban left and are in the top 25 a lot. I'd wish we were that irrelevant.

I think that WMU was actually ranked higher in recruiting than Minny, so if he is bringing in those kids it may simply be that they are better than the kids they already have.

say what you want about Fleck but I think he would have been a good solid hire here. Head Coach, not an assistant trying to learn how to be a HC. He allready was at Rutgers, recruited here ,and his RTB mantra or whatever angle he would have used here would have worked in this media market, been a big hit with students. Fleck even coached in NFL. For all the naysayers who laughed at his RTB after we fired Flood guess nobodys laughing now at his ranked one loss team and that he now has a job in B10..?
Its a time will tell aspect, but as for now ,it could be said Rutgers.."missed the boat"(lol)

Guess you can add Dick Rod too. GS is to blame for recruiting a terrible OL. But not for running the wildknight
NO,
Schiano allowed BobbleheadFlood to hand out Ships to lineman untill he saw what a disaster talent wise it became, and then he pulled that ability from Flood and only allowed lineman ships he (Schiano) approved himself.
Savage; yes that could have been handled better by Schiano,BUT Tom listened to his then girlfriend and packed up and fled when things got tough.

To be fair, the OL based on recruiting services was not that bad. Some of the guys didn't live up to their stars

Like i said you may think that but you would be wrong. Check back on Rivals. I just did.

If you think we will not be close to MN next year that is on you.

This is hilarious. I was at a party last night and was saying to my friends how it was bugging the heck out of me that the national media is creaming in their pants on how well Fleck is already recruiting based on these "flips"...

He is flipping kids from Western effing Michigan to Minnesota which is a Big Ten school.

Ridiculous that people are even buying this story line.

In case you are too lazy to check Rivals Minn was 61 in 2013 and since then consistently between 51 and 55.

RU was 44 in 2013 and then we were right around Minny every class until last year when Ash did not have enough time. This year we are well ahead of Minny so i will take our roster in 2017 TBH.

Minnesota went 9-4 this year. They also play is a much easier division.

So he better hit the ground running.

JF did the same thing when he was hired at Penn State, he brought his Vandy recruits with him.

Fleck is taking over a team that just went 9-4 with a bowl win against a good Wash St team despite the suspensions.

Ash took over a 4-8 team that didn't have the roster to recover from fewer suspensions.

RU is in the East Div, Minn in the West.

Two completely different situations.

sounds like the same mindset and reason given by certain posters why Maryland went to a bowl game and is recruiting so well..

Like i said you may think that but you would be wrong. Check back on Rivals. I just did.

First off, you don't follow Minnesota. So there's no way you can look back at their rivals class and give a fair assessment. I said if you regrade our 2013 and 2014 class, we'd be dead last in the B1G. I didn't say compare them where they were on signing day. Secondly, in your original post you said RU is close to Minny right now. Let's see, we finished 2-10 and they just beat Washington State in a bowl game. So right now, I'd say they are better than us. I wouldn't be surprised if we're close to them next year. But that will be tough. They're losing their QB, so obviously that helps your argument. But as a whole they were way better than us this year.
