Head Coach Ash, by staying is getting on the job training of how to prepare 18-22 year olds, to adjust to a major bowl game. (Schiano lost his first one but then went undefeated, he had stated he learn from his first bowl mistakes.) Now with Meyer teaching him with Schiano and the entire staff it is an added benefit; like how to work with new coaches (Schiano) is a plus, learning to coach for a bowl game and see the details he may not examined too closely in the past.
All Meyer staff come into OSU with the same level of commit... stay thru the bowl.. Men of character is the filter here you seem to over look. As the dead period is on, Coach Ash is still getting on the job training. Also the OP left off the fact he is not working on Rutgers Dime!
In the loose stats that were projected it has many errors and assumptions.
Did the assistants have a good relationship with the HC and assistants? The "can't wait to get out of town" has to be factored into to the stats which can never be known and how many did not have a bowl to go to? another loose end not fully stated. The point is Rutgers has a young aggressive coach who will learn and develop over this bowl game time and if he picks up any pointer or learns anything it would pay benefits for Rutgers in the future.
That said how does this extra coaching time weigh against not being on campus and only allowed to do phone call during the dead time till Jan 13 does not disturb me at all, as he can use that technology called the phone and internet from Ohio
