Commiserating with a follow RU loyalist... we came up with this plan (ok, it was mostly his)...

Replace Flood with Golden - (probably similar money, maybe a little bit more) - after firing Flood for cause (that is the reason for hiring the law firm to audit the Athletic Department)... give Golden an incentive filled 3 year contract but under the condition that he keeps the current staff (in order to contain the cost) with the exception of Rossi (he has got to go)... great northeast recruiter, has had success at coaching at Temple, would be seen a "big time" hire given the Miami pedigree... an overall low cost, high profile, good for recruiting hire... not a bad result, no? thoughts...

Well, for starters I'm not really on the Golden bandwagon. But let's say this plays out -- I disagree with the condition of keeping the current staff (sans Rossi). I think you attach one condition: Golden can bring his staff with the exception of D'Onofrio -- he's gotta cut him loose.

Replace a Flood with a Golder blunder?....yeah brilliant!

As far a the law firm audit of the AD reasoning...you are Wrong.
It is auditing the procedures in place...to provide RU with reccomendations on draconian policies in place currently....in order that the professor doesn't feel intimidated by a coach.

If you want a new Head Coach you have to let him be just that which includes picking his staff.

There are others who'd know this stuff better than me but one reason for cleaning house is so the players know who's in charge. No divided loyalties. You also need to let the new HC fill his staff with people he can work with and trust.

I'd have to believe your scenario would be a deal breaker for any HC worth having.

This is a no brainer.

It's not every year that guys with 10 years of head coaching experience with ties to NJ and known to be good recruiters fall in your lap.

I'd make the only conditions D'Onofrio and the tie stay in Miami. He has his choice of the other 7.1 billion people on earth

I'll pass.
Al isn't the Golden boy that he was thought to be when he took the Miami job.
But have to admit he did walk into a mess, but he didn't show he could get the job done
and that's the reason Miami fans wanted him out.

The current staff sucks, why keep them? What are we really good at?

We need a clean break!

Golden is not my 1st choice but it will be a huge upgrade from what we have now, as long as he doesn't bring Mark D’Onofrio , who is might be teh reason why he got fired. He stinks!

Sorry, I disagree 100%. It's time to step up and get a real coach. Find $5M a year and get a difference maker.

Golden probably is better than Flood, but is he good enough to make RU competitive and bring back the respect the RU FB program used to have nationwide, that Flood seems to losing .
I don't think he is and RU would be stuck with him for the length of time he signed on for.

Don't think he'd be an on the cheap hire and not want a 5 year commitment from RU .
Golden would understand he's walking into a program that isn't going to get the support from the RU administration needed to help make it a good football program, so he'll want money and the time to build a competitive program.

Well, Golden is better than Flood but if he didn't replace his DC in Miami then he doesn't have connection for a good one for a Rutgers. I would assume the recruiting would be much better so when we fire him in 4-5 years, at least we will have players for the next serious HC instead of the empty cupboard Flood is leaving.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! The ENTIRE staff must go. Period. I don't want any "leftovers" for any reason. They can't coach NOR can they recruit. See ya'!

If, repeat IF a new HC thinks someone is worthy of keeping you can't condemn him or even say he made a mistake. These guys hopefully know more than we do, know what they want in an assistant, and who'll work well within their "system". After all, he's basing his future on such decisions, not us.

As I said before, you just can't force him to keep someone.

Fire Sabatical on leave professors! I know its not possible but that would free up the Flood buyout.
Give a 5-year contract to Rick Neuheisl and let him turn Anthony Russo into another Andrew Luck type QB as he has done before.

I get it, obviously, but would YOU honestly keep ANY of these guys? Plus, the OP wants to make it a "provision" in Golden's "contract" that he keeps ALL members of the current staff other than Rossi. That's freakin', well, NUTS I say! [banana]

While I understand why people think Golden and Rutgers are a good match, this would be beyond terrible. Let's think about what Golden did at Miami........Al Golden consistently recruited top 20 classes to the U, coached in a conference and a division MUCH worse than the B10 East, and yet he barely reached .500. What exactly do you expect him to do here? This is a guy who was in the recruiting hotbed of America yet couldn't beat a single top 25 team in his tenure. They had as many guys go in the first 3 rounds in last years draft as they had wins. He's not good. I'd rather roll the dice on a non P-5 coach than someone like Golden.

I have no idea what you are smoking, but I want some of it. I would live to know who these great QBs Neuheisel has developed are.

I'm sure any prospective HC would buy into the idea of being told who most of his staff is going to be.....you kidding?

Mostly agree with this and have said similar in the past. Technically he was a DC in his career but in my mind he's a CEO coach. I don't see any signs of strong coaching acumen in his career. His coordinator choices would be extremely important. Judging from his past hires in that department I can't say his decision making in that department has been good. The only thing I could say in his favor is that he decided to switch to a spread tempo offense in 2013 but again the guy he put in charge of it didn't deliver anything in terms of results and that's with access to all that speed and talent of Florida.

His results were mediocre and no better than Shannon. He's got access to better recruiting grounds in Miami and can out recruit most of his conference competition from there yet still never won his division and made an ACC champ game. Clemson/FSU are on the other side of the conference too. Here no matter how good he can recruit he's not out recruiting OSU/Michigan and likely some others. If he did at best mediocre at Miami where he had so many advantages compared to the competition how is he suppose to fare here where he's got so many disadvantages compared to the competition.

You don't even know the entire staff, so lighten up! We have enough Drama Queens

His lifetime coaching record is 59-59. 32 and 25 at Miami (or.561). He had some pretty good recruiting classes at Miami.

What is it in his record that makes anybody think he could produce a team to regularly compete with and beat OSU?

Pass.

Excuse me? I don't "know the entire staff"? Really? First off, don't tell me what I do, or don't, "know." Secondly a blind, deaf, and dumb squirrel could tell you this staff isn't getting it done.

Thank you.

You don't know how to turn one dollar into one trillion in 21 days (legally). You don't know how the universe got it's start. You don't know how to fold a piece of paper, of any size, in half more than 7 times. You don't know the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.

Golden is Flood with more sparkle. He will not win at Rutgers, Mostly 6-6 with an 9-4 every 4 years, If between Flood and Golden Easy pick Golden. Rutgers needs to shoot higher,
