Wrestling AJ Ferrari using OV to RU next weekend

I hope we have more matches at the stadium in the future. Both times have been an absolute ball. As our football tailgate doubled in size. Our wrestling fan friends joined in, being outside just made it feel so different. We lucked out big time on both occasions with the weather too boot.
Not a fan. It was fine once as a novelty, but no more. Keep the matches at the RAC.

Yea but having the tailgate felt like a unique experience. RAC matches it's rush in, rush out. Our wrestling season ticket group is different from our football. Those matches both groups joined. They were both a fun experience and something different.

IMHO, it helps expand the wrestling fan base. Some of the football fans that haven’t seen RU wrestling got to experience what the hype was about. Thank goodness the Weather God’s cooperated though. I still remember that last crazy day when people wore short sleeves/shorts in the early part of the day for wrestling then there was an ice/snow storm at night for the football game. Plus, more importantly, I believe the wrestlers really liked it. I know they were disappointed when the Yankee Stadium match/football game got cancelled. That would have been a unique experience for them.

Agree with Jersey Boys. I’d personally pass on Rider, too. It wasn’t a fun experience or worth dealing with the coaching staff and the few fans.

Go RU!

Not a fan of the outdoor matches , agree it was good as one time thing.
I’m for keeping rider I love watching jersey kids wrestle esp when follow them through HS.
The coaches were clowns but wouldn’t let that be the reason to drop them.

I understand what people are saying about the RAC, but each year the novelty wears off and we are due for crappy weather. Also, we lose the RAC home advantage at the stadium. Definitely a cool novelty but not the same environment as a loud RAC.

Screw Rider. They bitch and moan, we put them on the schedule and they proceed to come into our facility and act like complete jackasses. There is nothing to gain for us scheduling them anymore. The Princeton rivalry is far more enticing and that team is on the rise.

I understand & appreciate the different viewpoints, including RAC vs. non-RAC locations. I prefer to grow the sport & if the coaches & wrestlers are for it, I’m in! Yeah, we know I’m a homer. Duh.

Also, I do admit the Rider wrestlers weren’t the jerks, the staff was so valid point RU Diesel. Princeton match was electric, Jersey Boys, so I prefer them as well over Rider any day, sans that freaking wheel barrel...that isn’t coming back...over my dead body.

Go RU!

But yet...it is so much fun spanking the red-headed step child!!! :chairshot::chairshot::chairshot::chairshot::chairshot::chairshot:

It sure would be nice knowing he would have Downey as s workout partner. AJ knows how crazy NJ wrestling is. The big hurdle has to be family location/geography so that is a big hurdle to overcome.
Can never fault a kid for choosing to be closer to home, especially when that’s one of our biggest recruiting pitches to NJ kids.

If they’re willing to travel to Stillwater from Allen, (4hrs each way), someone should take them out to see homes in eastern PA. It’s 2 hours from NB and a ton of bang for the buck.

I like that plan! Establish in-state tuition and continue the Allen TX to Happy Valley pipeline:D:rolleyes:

If we we want to be like every other great program, this is the perfect opportunity to show that we belong. If this is truly the only thing holding him back, someone in NJ who has the means can supply some very affordable housing for his family that will make them very comfortable to live here during his time at Rutgers. Problem solved. And no, it wouldn't be against the rules.

Sounds like a job for @kyk1827

I know we are not allowed to have nice things..but PLEASE let this happen!

Rutgers really is the only school were the wrestlers are the most popular athletes on campus. No other school can claim that! Last year shown that you can win a national championship here.

I’m as optimistic as the next guy, but can we stop repeating this? RU wrestlers may (or may not) be the most popular athletes on campus, but that doesn’t mean they’re more popular athletes than wrestlers at Iowa, Okie St, Penn St, Ohio st, etc. just a really silly point to keep repeating, imo.

Eh.. It sounds so good though. And its probably also true. Ash and Suriano are the faces of RU athletics. It seems like a solid marketing pitch to me.

John Smith has amazing credentials as a Head Coach.

Ok State had a down year in 2018
2018 - 4 NCAA All Americans
2017 - 7 NCAA All Americans
2016 - 6 NCAA All Americans
2015 - 4 NCAA All Americans, 1 National Champion (Dieringer)

I thought the game plan for Dayton Fix was bad in the NCAA. Not sure why he wrestled so passive. Dayton is Aggressive in Freestyle. I know the coach does not wrestle, but I thought that loss was on the coach for that one.

I was not happy with John Smith's antics during the Suriano bouts (and the one Gfeller vs Ashnault bout), but I imagine some of that is brought out by Nick's Wrestling Style. I can't judge J. Smith's career because he annoyed me for 3 matches against RU.

Oh.... BY the way.....
RU has 2 times as many National Champions than Ok. State the last 4 years

:)
I think you're forgetting Dean Heil (2016 & 2017).

Like I said, I’ve read it so many times here and just think it’s a ridiculous thing to keep repeating.

I also wouldn’t say it’s “probably” true; it may be true, maybe not. Ashnault graduated. If we’re talking recent grads, Corey Sanders, Gary Nova, Leonte Carroo were all well-known on campus. Geo Baker is probably more popular on campus than either Ash or Nick.

But regardless, that doesn’t matter if Okie St/Iowa/Penn St. wrestlers are more popular on campus than Rutgers wrestlers, which they are...

Are you sure this isn't against any kind of rules?

There's 9 million people living in NJ and I can assure you they're not all Rutgers boosters. I didn't say to break any rules. Isn't it amazing how Jarret Guarantano's family all wound up in Knoxville when he decided to go to school there from NJ? The dad was even lucky enough to find employment with the University of Tennessee! Crazy how things like that happen, isn't it?

if you read the definitions of what a booster is in the document that I linked, you'll find that the mere act of offering low priced housing makes you a booster. "
  • Assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student athletes or their families."

Let's just say, however, that you did find someone who has never spent a dime on Rutgers or Rutgers Athletics. up until now they haven't found a good enough reason to support the University. Now, all of a sudden, they're going to be willing to suffer a financial loss in order to help out a Rutgers athlete?

Did Michigan hire some football player's mom to do some no show job? She was only working there until he graduated... funny that.

Harbaugh hired her as glorified team mom, which was an official open position,a there is no rule against a university hiring a players parent, at least in football. So, that's an apples and oranges comparison.
