Alabama QB Bryce Young Has Earned Close to '7 Figures' in NIL Deals

I was just going to post this. People on this board are talking about different ways players are going to get paid and this kid is making almost a million $$ and he hasn't started a game yet. Goes to show the difference between Alabama and what seems like the rest of college football in there ability to provide extra benefits.

It leads me to a question I haven’t seen asked. These kids can’t hire a football agent until after their JR year and football agents are usually their endorsements guy as well. Are kids now allowed to hire agents any time they want?

Why haven't some of the supposed big spenders on this board done the same for our Rutgers players? For decades we heard some on this board brag about how rich they are and how much they donate to the program, but now when we need them to step up and show us their money so that we can compete against SEC schools and our own wealthy B1G programs, we hear nothing, not a sound. Oh well, I guess it was just more anonymous sports board bravado.

The first thought for many fans, when this became allowed, was that players would make a bit, to help get by in college, and college life is a bit more bearable

now we see an elite player getting a million dollars.

What are the rest of the best players to think? Where do they fall in the pecking order of reimbursement?

What should their cut be?

the sport suffers as this becomes a money game

Each deal we hear about makes it worse

You better face it now. We're entering an arena we can't compete in. Once our payroll dips way below the other programs, good luck trying to find another good coach ever. They'll want your team payroll figures to see if you can be competitive. We better hope Schiano stays here till he retires.

I have asked the same question . Lots of people here boast about themselves and socioeconomic status in the car threads , best town threads , stock threads etc . I guess they are being exposed as frauds

Marketing the Rutgers brand to NYC/NJ Major Corporations and getting then to use Rutgers players might just keep RU in the game instead of being destroyed, recruiting-wise, by the programs that have the boosters now to get their players deals.
The NYC/NJ area can be used to entise recruits becauase of NIL possibilities, if Rutgers puts an effoprt into gewtting NYC/NY area companies to see the benefit of working with a Program that many consider a Sleeping Giant.

I don't think it's going to be wide spread outside of the SEC and maybe 10 or so other teams. Pull up a list of the football programs with the largest amount of money donated and you'll get a pretty accurate read on who's going to be buying players.

So we see a million dollar college player.

this is flying past what we can reasonably do

Promotions with our local scarlet store and coffee shop SHOULD be what this was all about, as it was intended,

but it is not that for the big time programs,
It is far bigger

Why are they frauds? Maybe they don't see the value of giving money to a 18 yr old kid on scholarship Made they give to other more worthy charities

I'm a diehard Rutgers fan. I'm also well off. Though I wouldn't give a penny directly to a kid to play here

Major corps aren't going to do NIL

it's more going to be the diehard car dealer owner who owns a private business and will basically pay players

JNJ and Citigroup aren't going to be paying players.

need private businesses.

Then why isn't someone already paying bucks for RAC naming rights? Why is the stadium SHI? I've never even heard of that company before they decided to sign that bargain basement deal. Where were these businesses before when we had the B1GFund and they could name the APC or Rodkin Center? They were no where to be found then and will be no where to be found now.

Do you think that will be the predominate attitude among the wealthy Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan fans? LOL!!!

Or are rich in their own right, but not the big bucks it takes to spend like some other school's deep pocket boosters.
It might be, just a wild guess, the bagman bringing players illegal bucks to sign LOIs now are known as business people hiring college players and using the NIL as a legal way to pay for LOIs

Wait till Indiana and Rutgers go after the same HS recruit.
Lilly Corporation will try to hire the kid to be a spokesman for them , if he becomes a Hoosier, while Merck Inc will be offering the kid the same, only if he becomes a Scarlet Knight

Will we? If not, enjoy this recruiting season, might be a long time before we are ranked so high again.
And that's what many of us have been afraid of. While those championed this as the greatest thing since sliced bread, some of us shuttered at the thought thinking about the impact this will have on Rutgers. We're behind the 8 ball here, we still need facilities others don't, now they're going to dip into that same pot for paying players. Not going to happen.

Earning capacity going forward, don't fool yourself, will be near the top of the priorities for 4 and 5 star recruits and their families when they chose a program. All this loyalty to your state school ain't gonna mean a thing if the school in the neighboring state is paying twice the money.

It doesn’t take big bucks. Throw a few k around . These people get the best of the best in life . Why not do the same for Rutgers’?

If there's one person that can get some sort of big-time NIL deal for Rutgers players it's Greg.

That's no chump change.

I will say it again enjoy this season it’s a few teams at the top and everyone else.
Rutgers will never be a football power
Thanks Geo!!!
This season and maybe next will be the peak
Stop hoping for wall street to save Rutgers it ain’t going to happen at the occupy wall street
Liberal bastion Rutgers
Now remove non profit tax status from these institutions!!!

NY loves a winner. We have a relatively small window to generate more widespread excitement and line up our funders or we will be left behind. If this happened while Ash was coach, we'd be seriously doomed. Now we have a fighting chance. I'm sure GS is taking note and making plans.

Your point is a great one, BUT ( always try to be optimistic me) will say this

I believe businesses in the NYC/NJ area don't look on Rutgers as a big time program and have little faith i twill ever become one.
Many Rutgers fans might have expressed the same to their friends from "Dr. John" Bateman's time up to and including the present Greg2 time.
RU's AD Hobbs needs to get the major businesses and people of the NYC/NJ area to look on RU Sports as sleeping giants, like some think it is, and want to be associated with Rutgers Athletics when the college sports world starts looking at RU like a major player in the world of college sports.
I think he's trying, but years of negative press needs to be overcome to make it happen.

Hell I don't know of any other school that had to have it's fanbase take up a collection so they could place an ad in a newspaper refuting the lies in articles put out about the Rutgers football program, it's AD and Greg1
Yes that was a long time ago, but still the negativity \is stuck in many people's minds and some might be the ones that decides if Rutgers is worth the money to have relationship with.
So Hobbs needs to make the future be something they think will be financially beneficial to their company if they hitch their wagon to Rutgers Athletics .

LOL - no. Players have been getting paid under the table for decades. Do you begrudge assistant coaches making over a million a year?

We're in a weird wild west situation right now. There are no regulations right now. Perhaps congress or the NCAA will step in and make this more sensical. In any case, I'm really glad that players finally get a cut of a really, really, really, really big pie.

College sports is an $18,000,000,000 per year industry.

I just don't see how a kid is ever going to choose a school that doesn't have a crazy fan base willing to do anything to help their team win and that includes buying any piece of crap with a kids face and/or number on it. It is going to be very tough for RU to compete going forward.

Fascinating development.

So this qb…I’ll assume highly highly rated and the next big star. So let’s pretend he ends up being a complete bust that Saban benches. Then the second or third string qb becomes the next tua…and drives Bama to yet another title or at least playoff.

what weird chemistry dynamics within a team.

college sports will soon be dead and schools may as well call themselves “minor leagues” The whole idea of student athletes has been pretty much BS for a while. This just cements that…good for this Bama kid…7 figures…impressive.

I have forever said, "one of these days Rutgers will be good". While friends became Notre Dame and Miami fans clinging to the newest flavor of the year, I stuck to that mantra. It happened once now I'm not so sure again. With this new twist where team payroll will supersede, most if not all other factors, I have my doubts. I see it as an arena we simply can't compete in and don't think the school has the stomach to compete in. Cashing checks and simply participating may become enough for Rutgers once again.

College football rings up big revenues and big bills and is staring at declining attendance figures. According to this article, conference networks and TV in general are not responsible.

"don't think the school has the stomach to compete in"
could be a fact.
For years that was the case and even in hiring Schiano again it looked like that type of Rutgers move would happen when it came down to paying for him and what he wanted..
I just hope the powers to be look at the possibilities of trying to do more to entice NYC/NJ corporations into heavily supporting RU, or being a B1G member will not help bring in top talent because other programs will show them how being with them will get them far more bucks using their NIL than if they chose Rutgers as the school to play for.

Again you made a good point and I can only counter with unsupported optimism that it will change for the better or the doom and gloom you see is likely to happen if RU doesn't show a wiliness to spend what it takes to compete and can't get businesses involved in that

The boosters of the big time programs have been making under the table payments to recruits for years. Now they can make the payments legitimately. They are way ahead of Rutgers in this regard.

Until the NFL capped rookie salaries, untested draft picks were making more than veterans. I think baseball prospects still get huge signing bonuses, and need to prove themselves before getting longer term deals. This is where we are headed folks.

Now we can do it in a legitimate way. If we win, the money will follow. We are in the biggest media market in the world. Just win baby.

Companies are valued at billions without making money.

So he looks highly undervalued. He should be getting in 8 figures. Why not?
Let the market determine his worth, not this forum.

You may be Sure.I am Hoping for Greg to figure out this B.S. and get the money we are going to need get and stay competitive

There really should have been a cap. 7 figures for a player is just professional with no cap rules.
