Director of Basketball Operations Corky McMullen spoke first and said that Shaq Doorson is likely out for the year. Deshawn Freeman (knee cap) seeing doctor tomorrow and they're hopeful that he'll be able to return for Big Ten schedule. Corky was put in a tough spot being asked to speak on behalf of the staff but did a great job.

Special guest Joe Boylan with lots of historical nuggets and interesting stories of RU Basketball trip to Hawaii in '74, handling Phil Sellers, politics of building of the RAC, Tom Young's departure, recruiting of Keith Hughes, passing up joining the Big East twice, relationship with Ed Bloustein. Another great guest. Still hoping that Tom Luicci or someone sits down with the Joe Boylans and Dick Lloyds of the world and puts together some sort of Rutgers Athletics "Big Time" oral history or something.

I'd like to provide some info on how recruiting is going but apparently Eddie chose to sit in front of a TV and watch Monmouth-Georgetown live on television instead of driving a 1/2 mile to the Visitor Center and giving 30 minutes of his time (or at least one of his coaches) to the diehard fans who came out to hear him speak. Maybe some of our big donors can step up and buy the program a DVR.

Haha he no showed? Wow! And you were told because he wanted to scout Monmouth? I sure hope our game plan Sunday is on point, maybe we can keep it under 20.

Yet another in a series of excuses from EJ. I don't make it to many of the CC meetings anymore, but every time I do go, we seem to get another excuse for why EJ bailed at the last minute. Funny how we should care, when he clearly doesn't.

I feel bad for Brian and the other CC officers who put so much time and effort into helping the team

Also former RU forward (Class of 1985) Chris Remley was in attendance, apparently just as a fan. We could use a 6-9 shooter right now.

It's over for Eddie.

He couldn't DVR the game?!

Let Van finish the season.

then they told Corky to say it take patience and that Eddie is building a masterpiece..you cant make this stuff up

Another topic that some fans won't let die is the question about what Rutgers is doing to get more students to games. Someone mentioned organizing special buses from College Ave, having players doing some off the court things to drum up support, putting pressure on Geoff Brown. Someone mentioned how when Wenzel arrived he bought pizzas for students, went to dorms, etc. All of these, of course, are a total waste of time. You need to have competitive winning teams. Period. End of story. All that Wenzel did resulted in a total of 140 student season tickets his first year. 5 weeks before that epic A10 final at the RAC against Penn State we played the same team and only 4,000 total fans were in the building. The next year 2,700 student season ticket packages were distributed.

You don't need buses to get students from Livingston where there are more dorms than there used to be but the product on the court is not enticing. Students have better things to do: get wasted, study, try to get laid, sleep, eat, whatever. "If they don't want to come you can't stop them".

I'm going to assume you are kidding.. Unless by masterpiece he means train wreck.

Eddie called me personally before the meeting and expressed his apologies for not being able to attend.

He's the head coach of Rutgers basketball and that alone demands my respect as the President of the group who's sole purpose it is to support his efforts. I did not take it as an affront that he couldn't make it. If the man doesn't show to another CC meeting ever...he's already spent more time with in his 2 plus seasons with us than the other coaches of the major programs do for their boosters combined...by a wide margin. If the man feels like he needs to do something else for the betterment of his program tonight...that was his choice, and I understand it.

I don't think anyone who attended tonight felt cheated or slighted. Corky did an AMAZING job, and Coach Boylan was a home run. We did just fine.

We hope that EJ will appear at our next meeting in January, and look forward to just that.

THAT'S IT!
IT'S ALL OVER!

The Eddie Era is on 1 leg, and wobbling badly.
Someone please give it the knockout blow.

So now we have:
No recruits in Fall's early signing period
No individual or team development
No rebounding in practice
No timeouts when the team is struggling ("They need to figure it out")
No assistant coach involvement during games ("One voice")
No shows at booster club meetings

I do feel bad for Eddie in some ways, but if he knows he is in over his head, he needs to negotiate a settlement at end of year and not screw us going forward.
If he digs in and says he needs more time, I fear he will become vilified by many.

This is so much worse than Flood's situation.
Both were bad, but this is worse IMO.

Hobbs, you saved us once.
We need you to go to the well 1 more time.

Can we hire the Monmouth coach at halftime?
Just don't leave the RAC after the game.
Actually, finish the season and make a nice NCAA run first.
That should help build your "stain" so you can recruit better once you start in April.

(And I do feel for BK.
That dude is as loyal as it gets.
I pray we make NCAAs in the next (5-7?) years just so you can enjoy it.
This 25 year bad run will make it so sweet, his head might explode when we finally get there.)

He missed a cc meeting to scout a game someone could have recorded

He's embarrassed. No fault in that. Rebuilding is generally a young man's game and Rice left a disaster.

Rebuild to what ? Back to the 25 year average record, which is about 13-17. Okay, Jordan is a few games from that average....lol

nothing short of brand new facilities will get it done for Rutgers....that is the only thing that will get better players to a team with a 25 year NCAA drought.....that or big bags of money.

Seriously.....You admit Rice left a disaster and after any catastrophic event, like the Rice Scandal or any Scandal in life or business....things always get worse before they get better....that's just the way it is.....being impatient is not going to change that fact.

.

Disagree. It helps and shovels must hit the ground to attract best candidate but Jordan is a bad coach whether RU has facilities or not.

He lost 15 straight to close the season and then loses every important game through 11 games this year with a few embarrassing blowouts.

The writing is on the wall. You won't change my mind

Calling it impatience but it is what it is. what happens when Rutgers wins less than 10 games and has to recruit leftovers in the spring?

Eddie doesn't teach defense and rebounding so will Rutgers just out score teams next season? With what army?

Rutgers should make a move if if can afford a buyout. Hobbs should make his own hire with positive movements on the football hire. I believe if Rutgers can get a date for shovels in the ground on a new facility then attracting a coach will be infinitely easier than 2013.

Facilities are important but also an excuse for bad coaches

NW facilities no better than Rutgers-----tradition no better than RU------a grind academically to attend.

But the Collins kid is doing a great job there and they lost maybe their best player for the year in preseason when the Law kid went down.

The point is it can be done.

It feels like EJ skipped the meeting because he didn't want to take awkward questions, if any attendees would have the guts to say them to his face. It's not like the Monmouth game was a surprise on the schedule for us or Georgetown and I doubt they rolled out s lot of new wrinkles last night.

I'm going to assume you are kidding.. Unless by masterpiece he means train wreck.

Corky said it's going to take patience. He said EJ wants to build a masterpiece not something quick. Doing things the right way. He mentioned this masterpiece about 3 times.

At this point I will take a shack because right now we have a leanto.

There are no DVR's at the RAC. They were all destroyed after Mike Rice was fired.

Eddie could have showed up and didn't...it doesn't mean it's his fault on with where the program is, but this year's efforts on defense, rebounding don't have anything to do facilities.....Facilities don't attract recruits, coaches and effort do.

That doesn't mean we start rebounding and playing defense once the facilities are approved and shovels are in the ground either. I don't think showing up would have hurt, but anyone could clearly tell that he has to be not specifically embarrassed, but perhaps humbled or not sure what the next step may be to fix the problems, short and long term.

I could not attend last night and I am sure hearing about Boylan and other items are good and worth tons of value.....but there isn't anything wrong with facing the music after the GW game or last night......I don't think you capture the 100% respect of your peers or your assistant coaches by teaching them indirectly that they should be embarrassed or to stand in for him to speak to the media or Court Club. Credit Corky for speaking, but we aren't asking for an NIT birth right now...we do or should however expect him to show up, if he had initially planned to do so, regardless of how many meetings in the past he may or may not have contributed.

It will take more than Hobbs pursuing a change in 2 months, 4 months or 24 months.......we need more in the place of revenue expected and what it will take to get things built and started........ALSO in the next 2, 4 or 24 months, what Eddie can control, is what he can control......getting kids to close out properly with their feet, hands up and out on defense.....making proper passes and not taking difficult shots when another pass may get a teammate a better shot.....helping on defense for your teammates.

Somewhat disappointing, but everything starts and ends with the effort on the sidelines during games, communication with your assistants, your players communicating with each other.....someone designated as a team captain that holds the others efforts accountable. Basic building blocks for team sports are still needed at all levels. This is beyond Court Club for me, I don't care if he never shows up again, these are schedule draining events that take away from what he could do on the court, in film study or visiting open gyms. It starts with better effort on the court and from the bench......pour everything you have into it and live with the results....that's what's needed for RU now.

Although I appreciate Corky for stepping in last night, I couldn't stop thinking about how we are likely the worst Power 5 team in the NCAA, with no real chance of changing that anytime soon. Antiquated facilities, no money, no recruits for next year, few paying (RU) fans in the stands, no student support, and no other plan than "patience". 25 years since the last NCAA appearance is more than patience. It's becoming more like masochism.

I actually did do an interview with Tom Luicci AND Dick Lloyd for the upcoming RU250 course! You should take it!

https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/threads/ot-history-of-rutgers-university-ru250.48698/

Don't know how I missed Joe Boylan...I'm planning to try and get Hobbs and Ash in the spring, since my Hermann and Flood interviews are now a little out of date (though still interesting). Maybe I'll see if I can swing an interview with Mr. Boyland too.

Eddie Jordan was a fantastic interview, all told.

Wow . . . I mean, right after this was discussed before hand . . . well, wow . . . I'm sure he was busy doing . . . . well, uh . . . not to worry . . . all is well . . . kind of good at least . . . well, not terrible . . . well it was already terrible . . . this is how you heal . . . he's here for healing . . . so, it's goodish . . . don't you feel healed . . . it's . . . . uh . . . nevermind

So Mr. Jordan sat through the commercials of the Monmouth game? The commercials and all the other stoppages in play surely added up to more time than he would have spent on the Busch Campus. You can get through a 2 hour game in well under an hour if you DVR it, Mr. Jordan.

Those of us with our eyes open can see right through every excuse given. He was embarrassed, which is understandable. I wish he'd be embarrassed enough to walk away after the inevitable loss in the 11-14 game of the Big Ten Tournament that will end this debacle of a season.

Any possibilities of sharing more detail about these? Especially handling Sellers, TY's departure and passing up the Big East (I have my own theories about that, especially the 1st time, when RU was invited as a charter member).

Joe Boylan kinda walked on eggshells on this but basically TY left because RU did not go into the BE 2nd time asked.

Phil Sellers thought he could do no wrong and was thrown out of practices a few times.

I didn't realize that we passed up the Big East twice. I thought it was only the first time, when Groninger was holding out for the all-sports conference. Another chapter in the "what could have been" series.

So, uh, what happened to the thread about the Court Club and my guesses about which excuse our Head Coach would use to skip the meeting? Once again the great people like BK who have kept the faith in Eddie get burned. Sorry, but with his erratic leadership of the program, I never expected EJ to "man up" and be there to answer questions last night. And he sends his DBO? Just another sad lack of respect for the members of the CC who desperately want him to succeed for, among other things, to prove the negative guys like me wrong.

I was at RU for 1972-76. Joe Boylan and Art Perry were great guys when they came with Tom Young in '73. They were always willing to talk with students and Art could give a wicked, uh, commentary on the lack of hope for those of us shooting hoops in the Barn or the auxilliary gym. It seemed like that staff lived in the Barn for the first couple years. I would have loved to have been there to hear Joe's stories and maybe ask him a question or two about the enigmas of that era -- Ron Williams and Les Cason, both of whom were inherited from Dick Vitale.

Yeah that thread did go poof yesterday but I thought I'd get blasted from daring to mention it.

I removed the CC meeting promo thread in question in the afternoon (as I typically do) before JK and I left for RU to set up. Nothing sinister about it, so stop trying to make it out to be that way, like there was some master plan cover-up going down over a December CC meeting.

Crap like this just makes me want to run away from this place while I still have my sanity in tact.

Can't say that some of the stuff Coach Jordan is saying doesn't bode well for the program. What he says in pres conferences will not translate to wins on the floor. Far from it.

I just wish RU didn't have to always look back when it comes to their bsketball program. I'd like to see a plan for the future and the success that could be had there. Also, if this is a master piece, shouldn't there be some signs of decency now?

I like BK though, am going to step away and see what happens. What BK has done is awesome. I hope the program can work itself out and our alma mater can win some games.

I do think recruiting has to change. The current "all about me" trend in players is still running. We had 7 ASSIST last game. And these players say they are friends?Where is the passing, the selflessness? Until we get that, we will have no chance.
