Man, that's a sad story... Articles are a good read for those that may have a problem with nil and the state of athletics currently..Vitale was coach at east Rutherford found this cason guy playing little league baseball in Passaic at 12. Moves his family to east Rutherford, amazing for a family from Passaic. Trains him, and by the time he gets to highschool he starts all 4 years wasn't going to class and was partying..it's no ones fault but his own for the way his life turned out. But let's not act like being a STUDENT athlete was a priority before nil.

Gavin’s story isn’t over. Very athletic, tall and skilled. Clearly not a good defender and Nebraska doesn’t rely on outside shooting like we do. There bigs are better than ours. I’m sure he wouldn’t have wanted their roles but I’d take him over any of our portal guys except Acuff. Nebraska’s bench is shorter.

As a role player he’s more valuable than the short term guys. He wouldn’t have accepted the role so it’s a moot matter.
There’s no doubt that even in hindsight Pike would rather have GG for 3 years than 1 year of Martini or Hayes

I was hoping they showed the handshake line when Pike and GG passed. He and Dylan did show on the FS1 post game handshake line for an instant but it was a typical no eye contact pass of a top player and a bench jockey. Nothing to see there.

Shelby can’t possibly know what pike would’ve wanted. However we’re not getting a ton out of the transfers. My opinion is that for what we needed this year, Gavin would probably be buried behind everyone. And like Shelby said he wasn’t going to stick around. Kids only a sophomore. Maybe had he put on weight he’d have been a decent contributor by next year when we lose a lot. It doesn’t really matter.

That's also the person who messaged me defending GGs defense as not as bad as it seems.
I don’t think it’s about failing to live up to the hype. I think it’s more about blaming the coaching staff for his failures instead of owning up to it, to get better.
He also had said he would never transfer. If he transferred down to an A10 team I think there would be more understanding. But to transfer to another big ten team, blame the coaching staff, and bail at the first possible chance, left a bad taste. He would have been better off here. He would be in year 2 in leading the defensive system. His length could have potentially been helpful for a few mins. Instead he’s a regular DNP.
Sometimes highly rated recruits are busts, it happens. The mopping and being mentally weak and transferring because he wasn't playing enough as a freshman when he clearly wasn't ready to play is what pissed me off. Athletically he's closer to Martini tbh.

What I gather from this thread is:
Fans are angry over a “not going to leave RU” quote that was made while he was still in high school and he changed his mind a year and a half later. - Get over it.
Fans thinks he’s soft, unathletic, can’t play D, didn’t work hard, etc - And also angry because he didn’t stay and tie up a roster spot.
Fans are angry that he blamed the coaches - those are unsubstantiated rumors.
Did I miss anything?
What I saw and see is just a highly ranked kid who believed in Pike and RU but simply wasn’t and still isn’t as good as the hype. He thought a change would do him good. I can’t be angered by that. If he was a 2* or 3* and did the same fans here would have wished him well at his next stop.

No one is angry anymore because he, in fact, sucks. If he was lighting it up out there then anger would be justified to some extent after his "I'm never hitting the portal" comment.
Personally I was most annoyed at him because Pike gave him every opportunity in the world to succeed and he never took it. And then the way he left, complete with his dad on social media, made it clear they thought his underwhelming freshman season was Pike's fault.
Turns out it wasn't.
Well ... he supposedly had Douby-like range ... and TOOK Doubly-like range shots ... but for RU hit under 30% from 3, and for Nebraska is just 5-23, 22%.
