Man, I'm on a roll today.
Thanks. Not sure how I got that so wrong.
I honestly don't remember ever seeing him play in a game for Rutgers.

No it did not. I grew up with Les.Sadly his story didn’t end well.

Such a punkStanding in the back of the group of players towards the end of the game. Guess they did not think he could come in and stop his old team.
Not sure why you are lecturing me with capital letters. All I said was I grew up with him. Spent a lot of time on the playgrounds, in the gym, in the locker room, etc. so I know exactly what took place.Man, that's a sad story... Articles are a good read for those that may have a problem with nil and the state of athletics currently..Vitale was coach at east Rutherford found this cason guy playing little league baseball in Passaic at 12. Moves his family to east Rutherford, amazing for a family from Passaic. Trains him, and by the time he gets to highschool he starts all 4 years wasn't going to class and was partying..it's no ones fault but his own for the way his life turned out. But let's not act like being a STUDENT athlete was a priority before nil.
Like soft father, like soft son
He talked crap about Dylan. Guy was a loser helicopter dad who absolutely couldn't accept reality.I recall his father was somewhat anonymously on these boards a while back. He came off really poorly, so I am sure that is part of the problem in the background. It doesn't sound like the family understands reality
The final nail in GGs coffin, a positive skill evaluation from Shelby. Put a fork in the dork.Gavin’s story isn’t over. Very athletic, tall and skilled. Clearly not a good defender and Nebraska doesn’t rely on outside shooting like we do. There bigs are better than ours. I’m sure he wouldn’t have wanted their roles but I’d take him over any of our portal guys except Acuff. Nebraska’s bench is shorter.
That wasn’t a consensus. It was a vocal few who don’t what wtf they are talking aboutThe consensus after he transferred was that he would do well there. I didn't see it though. No toughness.
You’d prefer Hayes over 3 more years of him, or over either of the other 2, for just a year (or two with Derkack)? Not Shelby. The final nail in GGs coffin, a positive skill evaluation from Shelby. Put a fork in the dork.

There is no doubt you're wrong, wrong, wrong. You’d prefer Hayes over 3 more years of him, or over either of the other 2, for just a year (or two with Derkack)? Not Shelby.
As a role player he’s more valuable than the short term guys. He wouldn’t have accepted the role so it’s a moot matter.
There’s no doubt that even in hindsight Pike would rather have GG for 3 years than 1 year of Martini or Hayes

Lol not lecturing you was just making a general statement. I don't even know how you feel about the current state of athletics. Just for anyone that feels like it was more "pure" or whatever in the 60s or 70s..same things have been going on forever...Not sure why you are lecturing me with capital letters. All I said was I grew up with him. Spent a lot of time on the playgrounds, in the gym, in the locker room, etc. so I know exactly what took place.
Think we all saw it .Standing in the back of the group of players towards the end of the game. Guess they did not think he could come in and stop his old team.
Of course he didI was hoping they showed the handshake line when Pike and GG passed. He and Dylan did show on the FS1 post game handshake line for an instant but it was a typical no eye contact pass of a top player and a bench jockey. Nothing to see there.
PS - I would bet Pike acknowledged him and maybe wished him good luck.
What was his dad’s name on forum?I still have a DM from him with some sort of defensive stats that were favorable to GG.
He asked me to post them since it wouldn't look good if he posted them himself.
Never realized it was his dad.
That was fun times though. So many "experts" on the board that just knew how instantly good he would be.
What was his dad’s name on forum?
Why all the animus towards Gavin? What did he do to RU other than fail to live up to the hype that others created?
He could have gone anywhere and chose RU and I appreciate him making that choice. It didn’t work out. Unfortunately he’s not as good as others made him out to be but that’s not his fault.
@MiloTalon13What was his dad’s name on forum?
Bingo , spot on .I don’t think it’s about failing to live up to the hype. I think it’s more about blaming the coaching staff for his failures instead of owning up to it, to get better.
He also had said he would never transfer. If he transferred down to an A10 team I think there would be more understanding. But to transfer to another big ten team, blame the coaching staff, and bail at the first possible chance, left a bad taste. He would have been better off here. He would be in year 2 in leading the defensive system. His length could have potentially been helpful for a few mins. Instead he’s a regular DNP.
Are you serious? You don’t know ?Why all the animus towards Gavin? What did he do to RU other than fail to live up to the hype that others created?

What I gather from this thread is:Are you serious? You don’t know ?
No one is angry anymore because he, in fact, sucks. If he was lighting it up out there then anger would be justified to some extent after his "I'm never hitting the portal" comment. What I gather from this thread is:
Fans are angry over a “not going to leave RU” quote that was made while he was still in high school and he changed his mind a year and a half later. - Get over it.
Fans thinks he’s soft, unathletic, can’t play D, didn’t work hard, etc - And also angry because he didn’t stay and tie up a roster spot.
Fans are angry that he blamed the coaches - those are unsubstantiated rumors.
Did I miss anything?
What I saw and see is just a highly ranked kid who believed in Pike and RU but simply wasn’t and still isn’t as good as the hype. He thought a change would do him good. I can’t be angered by that. If he was a 2* or 3* and did the same fans here would have wished him well at his next stop.
So at least his shooting is improvingHe’s shooting 34% and 22% from 3 this year, has put no muscle on and still can’t play D. That will get you stuck to an A10 bench too.
Well ... he supposedly had Douby-like range ... and TOOK Doubly-like range shots ... but for RU hit under 30% from 3, and for Nebraska is just 5-23, 22%.He had Douby range on 3 pointers but was unable to create shots off the dribble.Griffiths definitely needs weight training and playing at a far lower competition level.Another player with high hopes coming in and disappointment leaving after one year.
