Harper decision to play against Michigan State at MSG was his.
He had doctors and trainers clearance and asked Pike to let him give it a go,
I haven’t met many coaches who hold out their best player after getting medical clearance.

That’s why Pike gets a pass, the medical staff doesn’t get a pass, they did a poor job assessing the re-injury or making it worse scenario.

IMO it’s highly unlikely the original ankle roll was a high ankle sprain, it was your standard rolled ankle that evolved into a more debilitating high ankle sprain by clearing him to play.

Through out history, playing injured, sick, compromised, grieving has produced legendary heroic performances… there’s no way Pike wasn’t going to play him.

Go RU… Beat Michigan

I'm not saying HC Pike did this but the training staff is a function of the team.
They aren't exactly independent abritors.
I wouldn't but shocked if coaches or others sometimes tried to tip the scales one way or another on medical decisions.

The same goes for the player in most occasions. Wouldn't be shocked if they played down an injury in order to get cleared.

It's really just a crappy situation all around for everyone.
Especially for such a high profile game impacting the decision making.

He probably should have been in a boot right after the Penn State game which I do not believe he was , but cannot be certain as we did not see pictures of him. But Jay Wright was at practice on Friday and answered a question that he looked okay to go. The terrible thing is there is no doubt something happened in the MSU first half because Dylan could hardly walk in the second half to stand up for the huddles. He definitely severely aggravated it.
Dylan wanted badly to play at MSG to not only show off his talent but to get RU a win. He is a competitor and has taken on challenges against better teams this year.

Bottom line. It sucks terribly for RU not to have him as he is a difference maker.

The player shouldn't be making the decision
He’s not, the medical staff clears him and it goes from there.
Coaches assess players in practice, players assess themselves.
Carino saying he practiced well doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.
Dylan passed every ankle test the trainers and doctors gave him.

This isn’t Varsity Blues Nick,
Those days are over.

The medical staff is a function of the team but their authority can NOT be influenced by a coach.
Just like all of us, there is onus on the player to be honest and forthright with the trainers and doctors…. Especially with concussions.

Any notion of Dylan holding out for a payday is complete BS!!

As was the decision to one even allow him to travel to Indiana with the flu and then even attempt to play the next game(Wisconsin?) it was like having 4 v5 as he couldn't even move; he should have be in the hospital getting IV fluids etc and also he went ot the womens game the night before Wisconsin just bad, bad by our staff

Just because they aren't supposed to be influenced doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Players weren't supposed to be receiving money pre-NIL but they were. Some people even still think it wasn't happening.

Never said anything about Dylan sitting out because of his NBA future. Actually said the opposite. As you correctly pointed out - sometimes athletes need to be protected from themselves.

If the trainers truly did independently clear Dylan incorrectly then hopefully HC Pike and the AD take action and discipline (fire?) those responsible.

Is there new reporting about his ankle or is this speculation/ reporting coming from the Carino article released right after MSzU game ?

Agree. He never should have played at MSG. Ankles are easy to sprain worse if not sufficiently healed.

Dylan passed the base line tests and medical staff cleared him.

The boat rower at Minnesota got into trouble supposedly attempting to influence doctors on clearing players.

No new reporting except Pike’s quote during his press conference.
Before the game at MSG Pike noted Dylan was one tough kid and wanted to give it a go.
The give it a go only happens with clearance from team doctors and trainers

It was aggravated before the game. He couldn’t put weight on it and couldn’t finish warmups.
