Again, my comment on this board when ash was introduced was his arrogant tone and failure to say a single nice thing about an RU football program that has been a perennial bowl team for a decade and that has put a number of top players into the NFL. He made it seem like we were a total disaster as a program and showed not an ounce of gracious recognition to what GS had built.

Well, his absolute disaster of a two year tenure has made us into an offensive embarrassment that would make the loudest critIce of Terry Shea’s disappointing tenure blush. Kind of fulfilling his view of the program singlehandedly. Good thing the powers that be ignored the ridiculous calls on this board for giving him an extension. He appears to be clueless. It’s going to be a long year or two until he’s canned.

So not true. Ash has always been very complimentary of Schiano. He also mentioned he wouldn't have taken the job if Greg had t proven you can win at RU. We were a TOTAL train wreck after Flood. It is just reality. Also Schiano had 0 conference wins and three total his first two years.

What struck me when he was hired was his early on and persistent insistence that Rutgers would now be a spread team regardless of the personnel he had. What hubris.

Ash didn't realize how much hard work and effort Schiano had to put in to get Rutgers where it was.

Ash got here late, and proceeded to remove a lot of what Greg built up.

Sickoflosing is back in full strength.

Yes, but you do realize Ash came in, and got rid of certain mantra phrases and idioms that Greg built up here?

Fence the Garden and THE HUNT are just silly.

lol...okay...but I'm pretty sure that's not why we're currently where were at, ya' know?

BTW - my college-football-fanatic-friends from around the nation absolutely LOVE "#thehunt...just sayin'! We won't talk about the other one, however!

Ash is just like Terry Shea, they don't have the personality to make it in this part of the country.

People laugh all the time, but it's true, it takes a certain type of person to make it in this part of the country, especially in a job like Ash has. His mid-western country bumpkin wordplay isn't getting him any fans, though some how it does for Jerry Kill whose press conferences seem to resemble a rambling old man with a funny accent.

Schiano is a Rutgers god. He did the impossible. He should have a statue outside the stadium because RU athletics would still be affiliated with the likes of UCONN if not for him.

However, Schianos team still sucked until 2005, when we threw him a parade for getting RU to a loserbowl - which we lost.

If we hold Ash to the same schedule, we'll be fine. If he fails to grow the program by then, the money will be there to hire a proven head coach.

Until then, it's no fun.

This all day and all season. Whiners might as well get used to it.

I am disappoint.

I have come to believe that we have two problems right now.

First, the program was a post-flood disaster. It takes a particular set of skills, in this market, to swing the pendulum the other way.

Second, I don't think Ash has those skills. It's merely academic at this point, since we won't be getting rid of him within the next two years, but I don't think he's a long-term guy for this program. I get the sense that he's just trying to boost his stock enough to get what he considers a high-end job and that he feels the best way to do that is to elevate Rutgers from "shitty" to "not so shitty".

There are SERIOUS coaching deficits on this team that are plainly evident on the field. Every aspect of the game is lacking in ways that suggest the kids aren't being coached up. We're now in "wait til net year" mode, but come next year if there aren't obvious improvements on the field I think the pressure to make a change will be 2013-like. And that was not a fun year.

"We've got to get some smiles at Rutgers now!" Those were his first few words
http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...hired_at_rutgers_5_first_impressions_fro.html

As for running the spread, I think most RU fans were for the change from the pro set.
Put the way it was done on Boy Wonder, but blame Ash for hiring him.
Then you have the type of talent Ash inherited, upgrade is and was needed for depth and that won't happen quickly.

4-8 in second year isn't nothing to brag about, 2-10 first season should be condemned.
But to be fair: it's the third year that should show if Ash will be a plus as RU's HC or deserves to be replaced.

wrong ! he came in with disdain for this program , he said he would tear it down and rebuild it to his liking. as of today he cant come close to greg or even flood

I think this fanbase is bi-polar. After the Maryland win and the Sitkowski flip, a third of the fan base was singing Ash's praises and worried about how long he'd stay. Now after three consecutive ass kickings, another third wants to can him.

We don't have a BiG offensive line this year. We won't have a BiG offensive line next year. With J Grant hurt and Ahmed Mitchell being a punk, we had no WR's this year. We won't have BiG WRs next year, as it stands.

I don't think this coaching staff can out-scheme the roster's lack of talent, for what it's worth.

By the way, what is "hubr"?

Please go back and watch his initial press conference, of course Flood messed up the program Big time. But his speech made it seem that we have never been a strong program and how much of an uphill battle he faced. True or not re the latter, it was offensive.

For all you Schiano. Lovers please tell me that he played in a conference remotely as difficult as the One we are now....no chance!

We lined up cupcakes to get to bowl games and we NEVER beat West Virginia.

This is a completely different ball game folks!

I am not sold on Ash and the coaching leaves a lot of questions marks on GameDay. My hope is we move Kill to an asst HC role and bring a Co-OC to groom to take over and someone who is proven there as the 10th coach

Sobering post Morris.
Next year could be worse offensively

It's been pretty well documented that the program was an undisciplined mess during the flood tenure. Players were advising recruits to stay away. Why should Ash pay homage to Floods incompetence? The players seemed happy that they had some discipline when Ash showed up.

He recruited better and put a ton of guys in the NFL.
I’d rather watch future NFL players lose, than future CEO’s

I'm truly torn. Last year we all knew we'd suck, with what Flood did to the program, and we did. No surprise at all. Wasn't specifically impressed by Ash, but could understand the bad season and didn't really blame him for it, plus I was reasonably impressed with his first full recruiting class after last year.

Fast forward to this year and I liked the Kill hire and was reasonably happy with the first 10 games of the year, especially the 3 B1G wins and playing UM/PSU competitively for nearly 3Q each. Was bothered by the EMU debacle and the OSU blowout, but assume everyone has one WTF game (EMU) and one blowout by a great team we don't match up well with wasn't a complete surprise.

But I have to say I'm very troubled by the beyond putrid performances during the last two games. Simply no excuse to not show up for IU, especially when we had bowl hopes on the line, and we again seemed unprepared for a good, but not great MSU team that was not 33 points better than we are. Two games in a row being poorly prepared is heavily on the coaching staff.

My biggest problem evaluating the team is trying to figure out how much is on the QBs, because let's face it, ours aren't very good, and that's being kind. It's such an important position that weakness there makes the whole team look much worse than maybe they are. Just imagine how much better this team could've been with Lagow or Lewerke or almost any other B1G QB we faced.

However, Ash does have a pretty good class of verbals and if he can somehow hold the class together by convincing them the 3 B1G wins and 4-8 improvement over 2-10 show a good trajectory, then I do think we can have a better year next year, but that's not a given. And if we have another 3-4 win season, I'll start to think he's done, whereas if we can win 5-6 games, it'll still seem like an upward trajectory. Jury's out though for at least one more year, IMO.

Jerry sounds like he'd be good on the rodeo circuit. He's entertaining at $500,000 per season.

Think about how much NFL talent we truly had during the Schiano years..no denying it. yet we all sit here and say what a great job he did. I remember people calling for him to be fired bc we could t win the big games with all that NFL talent. Ray Rice is a once in a lifetime type player for this program..very similar to what you are seeing with Saquon Barkley at PSU..completely eleveatd their programs and made their coaches look good. There was so much lacking in GameDay coaching with him. Why I loved most about Schiano was the marketing/branding he did for Rutgers and he was building a foundation. I always thought it would be someone else taking us to the next level though.

Right now we are sticking with a guy trying to learn on the job. It leaves a lot of questions marks really. I just think he is a bit too stubborn in his game plans thinking it’s about executing over and over again and that eventually the players will get here to make it work. I think he needs to reevaluate his strategy. He should watch the movie “The Patriot”. He will see that you need to do things differently in a David vs Goliath type setting to throw people off guard.

I didnt realize Schiano won an outright championship. He lost all credibility when he bailed on the program

Can't believe how upset people are because he didn't clean to continue traditions. Chop. Lol

Really? He got the opportunity to coach in the NFL. Did you expect him to turn that opportunity down?
considering the only thing he achieved was taking RU to crappy bowls in the worst conference in the country, yeah I expected him to stick around till he actually did something. Schiano quit on his team and he quit on our school plain and simple. I'm sorry but I thought he was more of a man than that but he just ran away when he couldn't get it done. Sorry but its true. I mean his idol Joe Pa stayed at his school till he died. He was even quoted saying he wanted to do what JoePa did for RU. He was a mediocre College Coach and a terrible NFL coach. Yeah I blame him as much as I blame Flood, cause if he doesn't leave then Flood doesn't sink everything Schiano built. Schiano tore down his own legacy by leaving. Plain and simple.

Wow you are off base here. I personally heard him give major kudos to what schiano did here .

Wow dude. Schiano doesn't owe you it any other RU fan anything. He's the only reason we aren't in the AAC right now. We wouldn't have a stadium expansion, no Block R, half of our fanbase would not exist. He had the opportunity of his dreams to be a head coach of an NFL team. He left the program in good standing. If the AD hired a competent HC after him who knows where we'd be.

please don't put words in my mouth. Show me where I said Gary owes me something. Please think before you type. If you think Schiano is the sole reason we are where we are then you agree that he ruined his own legacy. Because Mulcahy and Pernetti had nothing to do with getting us a stadium expansion and invitation into the B1G. Not to mention the players? Stop worshipping the loser like he was an actual good coach. Dude brought us from garbage to mediocre. That's so great right? He could have actually had some legitimate success if he stuck around. If you're not good enough to get your team to be top 25 year in and year out then you're not good. He bailed right when things were getting hard. Sorry but those are the facts. Pretty sure the opportunity of his dreams was to make RU a success the way JoePa did at PSU but yeah Schianos dream was to clearly be a NFL head coach. Just give up because you're statements don't make sense and are weakly thought out
