ASH Needs to Get of his A$$ and get us some RECRUITS!

Let's see...

Lack of awareness of the recruiting calendar - check.

Badly mixed metaphors - check.

Yeah, you're a shining example of somebody people should pay attention to.
Can't blame him for getting antsy. We've had some pretty good recruits decommit and not a whole lot of major news regarding new highly interested recruits. Meanwhile our counterparts at Maryland have gotten a couple of 4 star commits.

Ash can tweet #fencethegarden all he wants but talk is cheap. We've just learned that Micah Clark a prominent '17 NJ lineman announced his 15 schools of interest with Rutgers nowhere to be found. Pitt is in there but his home state Big Ten university is not.

I have faith in Ash and staff but I'm really hoping we get some good news with recruiting the next week or so.

We have essentially lost or going to lose every major recruit in this class.

No more sugar coating about players not fitting his new offense.

We need talent any which way we can get.

Time to pull out all the bells and whistles.
Fail. :flush:

so your advice to a major college coach is "get players".

got it.

good point.

Although I am not at all worried yet, and won't get expectations too high up, but it's not unreasonable to think a brand new coach will create enough excitement to flip some guys and bring some new ones in

2017 is a long time away. Lot's of things change. Saquon Barkley was a RU commit once as well and see how that ended up. Kids are not going to be interested in this inexperienced staff until they see what they do next year on the field. 2016 is a lost cause.

Somebody told me that after the decommits, (prior to Russo), the recruiting ranking actually went up. If they were all major recruits that wouldn't be possible, would it?

Lost cause? I don't think so. I think if Houston is able to recruit 4 and 5 star guys in the AAC based solely on hype alone and considering Ash is of the same pedigree as Herman I think it can be done. While I'm not expecting it to the same degree, I think Ash should be able to ride the hype train to a few highly regarded guys in this class or the next. This year isn't a lost cause, Ash and staff just have to sell themselves like Herman did.

Barkley also committed to Rutgers before he had a whole lot of major offers.

With less than a month left in the recruiting cycle, it will be difficult to get a stellar class. Very few of our coaches have coached in their new positions. You are right, we could only get recruits this year based on hype. However once everyone sees our team play next year with more heart and better schemes we will get better 2017 recruits. A lot of the guys especially NJ players will change their minds. Having a staff with no NJ ties allows us to have a fresh start with NJ coaches and players.

I think folks have learned that if you post something crazy or nonsensical then you'll get alot of responses.

If you haven't noticed, Ash isn't trying to be a used car salesman to get recruits, he is building a program and he is doing it the right way. If things aren't happening fast enough for you then maybe you should take a step back, then get back on board when he cleans up the mess he inherited.

He said clearly in today's presser that he wasn't just going to hand out scholarships just to fill the class, that's no way to build a program for long term success. It seems he is trying to build a positive, winning program for the long term, as opposed to the program the last regime put together.

If Ash can coach up the players already on the roster, it will be like RU did some fine recruiting this year.
Expect decommits when a new HC and staff comes on board, but if Ash and his staff can make the commits they get to play up to their talent level and as a team, it will be more than the previous staff was doing and even a poor class will wind up better than if Flood was coaching them, in my opinion.

KJ_RU, I agree with you +1000.... I don't understand how people know what the heck is going on behind the scenes. The Dead Period is done. The coaches will be hitting the road hard starting Thursday. Why do many think that our current recruits are the only ones being recruited. Sure save what we can and bring in other recruits that they are recruiting. Everyday we see new out of state recruits popping up on the RU radar. I agree don't give out 'ships to just anyone to fill out the class. They know what they are doing. The culture is changing, not overnight but it will take time to undo the catastrophe that "Mr. 1-0 Flood" created to all of Schiano's hard work..

Thank you Bryce. You have it summed up nicely. Yes we may have lost a few but there is a crop of red shirt freshmen to be coached up and how many 2016 class members does one expect to play this fall. If we lose someone like Rene then perhaps we should worry. The true test will be the 2017 class.

Houston had only 1 -4 star recruit for the last 4 years. They now have a few 4 star recruits in 2016 because of the great year they had in 2015. Houston won mainly with 3 and 2 stars recruits.

Nobody wants to hear this but we are going to have to be patient. Expecting Ash to pull rabbits out of a hat at this stage just isn't going to happen.

Simply coaching up what we already have might be worth another 2-3 wins next year.

Graber and Schiano were able to get some higly regarded guys early on.

Still good players out there like Gray and Powell. Maybe some good ones from Ohio.

And how did Rikki Cook turnout?

Why don't we let the guy we hired do his job and stop being internet coaches

Wasn't just cook there were some other guys that committed after "the meeting". A DL from Wayne who's name escapes me is just one example. Schiano hit the ground running and didn't spend his first three weeks out of town. Just sayin.

Its no secret that the 2016 class was going to be a serious issue for us. He will get a couple guys, but as people were saying its too late in the recruiting season. Ash has to work for the 2017 class. His whole Rutgers career is banking on that class.

I will admit though I would like to get some good news. It has been over a month now.

Do you not realize this class will not be filled with the players we want. Give the guy a freaking break. He has 4 weeks to get anyone who is willing to play for the school. He hasn't established any relationships yet with recruits. He's probably focusing on 2017 and 2018 recruits already. Ash and staff get a pass for this class because this was Floods recruits. He also gets a pass for the next 2 years if we are the laughing stock of college football because he has to work with Floods 0-2 stars with no talent.

At Rutgers we don't reload, we rebuild and it takes years. He'll get it done.

His name was Ryan Neil.

Schiano also never reached a BCS bowl or never won a conference title. Just sayin.

He coached in the game. During that time, he hired a staff, handed out offers, visited each one of our early commits, met with the team, etc.

Can you let me know what else you would have liked him to do if he had stayed in town? He couldn't visit recruits because it was (still is until tomorrow) the dead period...

Most recruits when they heard there will be 5am workouts said "Screw this we are not getting up before 9".

I still have 2 questions if he had been here from day one are we still in this predicament?
If we had chosen Narduzzi would we be way ahead of where we are now?

I know the second is hypothetical but Narduzzi may have been the better fit here for recruiting purposes. Coach Ash has built a mountain to climb for this class and we will have to wait and see if he can scale it. Its a short period of time in which he has to make up considerable ground for this class. Tomorrow starts the long climb to turn some heads and get some guys to come back home.
I am looking at Michigan and they are in it for every top kid in the state. It sickens me that Partridge is there and not here recruiting the home state for us. Only because he is a jersey guy that may have made a difference for us, just don't understand why this couldn't get done, and would like to know the real story of what happened here not just conjecture.

All true.

Another spin on it. After listening to the press Conf, it's pretty obvious that we have a Midwestern staff - those values came shining through. Certainly a breath of fresh air, even if kinda foreign. It will be very telling to see how the East Coast kids/families/coaches respond to this.

Look, even if some may think the staff pic was as unhip as an Iowa corndog stand, you have to admit it was fun, different, upbeat, genuine. Pretty sure NJ won't change these guys. But they just might change some attitudes in this state. And if that resonates with the recruits, well hold on to your hats, cause it's gonna be a lot fun around here.

YES, no difference whatsoever. The only difference it would had made was the lack of those really dumb threads about why he should had come here asap.

You do know that the NCAA has rules about what you can do during what time period, right?

As I said on another post ......the facial expressions by Coach Nieman after some of the non footbasll related questions were priceless........this staff is perfect for what has been going on here.....with the team.....with the media .......with the fan base

When we were to fire Flood, many here were prepared to pay a big price with this recruiting cycle....... And if I were to guess at this point, I think we wind up having lost more quality recruits than gained, starting from the date of the firing..... Not a knock on Ash, just that it is too late to right the ship in this class...... At least for an unknown as a head coach.

I wonder if the OP was in favor of the firing?...... If so, I would not complain one bit..... As mentioned above, we have to hope Ash coaches up and we win with preparation and game day decisions

Rather than spinning anything let's just be factual -- since Ash has been hired we have not had a commit and we have lost prior commits. Other schools that hired new coaches have had new commits and lost some prior commits. It is not signing day yet but that's where we stand.

The facts will play out better on signing day.

And with all those "break-through" recruits that Greg brought in because he "hit the ground running" he went 3-20 his first 2 years and it still took him 4-5 years to make the program relevant. Just sayin.

years after the meeting, I think it was discussed that some of the players touted by the high school coaches were just not that good....Schiano took the word of the coaches and some of the commits were just not what he thought...

in the following years he relied more on his staff and his own judgement for players...but the meeting, although good in theory, did not bring in the highest quality.

Remember this-we changed an ENTIRE OFFENSIVE SYSTEM and that's why we lost a Top Tier recruit. In order to make an omelet you need to break some eggs. We knew this class would explode when the kids said WE WANT TO PLAY FOR COACH FLOOD and now it's a realization. We will be fine. we will fill out the class with solid recruits (Maybe flip a top kid from somewhere else?), the sun will shine again and we will be fine. If we can get away from 30 point losses, I will take this EVERY. SINGLE . TIME.
