Lets at least wait to hear what he has to say at tomorrow's press conference before crucifying him.

No NJ ties, No RU ties. He does not bleed Scarlet , this is only a job for him and one way or another he will be gone in 5 years or less.

Steve Sarkisian coached in the Rose Bowl, non title run for USC after being named Washington HC.Still struggling to come up with all the examples of coaching in non-championship games? So far we have one - Charlie Strong
one of the very first ones needs to be that the job starts immediately.
If Hobbs didn't see the significance of it previously, perhaps he may come to find out about it now and work on that "final term". It's not finalized until it is. An agreement in principle is just that--a holding pattern until the terms finalized.
RU really doesn't need to start off on a negative or at best a concerning note. This would dig him a hole that would hang around his neck for his tenure and needs to be removed.
I thought when I heard about Ash's hire that there were similarities with the GS hire (later pointed out by ledger). There are some, but only some. GS had definite and concrete plans on how to make RU what he wanted it to be. The "meeting" was genius and forever changed perception of RU fball. Those who weren't around cant imagine how laughable it would seem for an RU coach to gather the state's best to talk about RU.
I had hoped (and still do) that Ash actually has plans of a specific nature other than "coach em up and recruit well". You know, something specific to RUTGERS- this job. This waiting to come aboard full time smacks of someone who feels they got a P5 job with everything in place. The RUTGERS job is a far different beast. It needs attention NOW. What is his ideas for THIS job/
There is still time to "finalize the final details". The new coach can't start in a hole. Hobbs may need to say whatever we talked about before we have come to realize that this unique RUTGERS situation requires all hands on deck immediately--ESPECIALLY FOR AN UNKNOWN COMMODITY in NJ. Ash needs to start with a bounce and not explaining himself away as to why what he did was ok. It needs to be a non issue and he needs to get to learn the unique situation at RU so he can rugby tackle it.
Well mr. lawyer helper, I am sure mr Brown, Barchi and Hobbs and their legal staff would appreciate your concerns, Then again they may not.....one of the very first ones needs to be that the job starts immediately.

No need to make this into an adversarial situation. All parties agreed to this because this is an absurdly minor issue. If you don't think Ash is living and breathing RU football right now, you probably trust very few people in your life. It is in the interest of Meyer too that the RU program is a solid one. No one is screwing us and Ash has potential to be a great hire.Hey , most of us know plum street is smarter than most people on this board . But plum shouldn't be smarter than Hobbs.
Hobbs should have said : 'Chris you're my guy . If you want this job , you start full time tomorrow ' .
It's not rocket science folks .
Tom Herman stayed through the NCG last year FWIW. I understand that game meant more but this could simply be "the deal" at OSU.Just when we think we are getting a fresh start, it seems like it is the same ole Rutgers football mistep.
To me this speaks to Hobbs' inexperience as an AD. Do you think any other BiG would let a new hire stay with a BiG competitor for another 3 weeks?
And for those who say it doesn't really matter, how often have we heard how much those bowl weeks of practice help a team for the next year. SO OUR NEW HC IS GOING TO BE COACHING UP AND MAKING ONE OUR COMPETITORS BETTER FOR 3 WEEKS .,,,,while we pay him....,while other new hires are building staff and are placating their incoming commits.
Hobbs, Ok I get it you have a job. You're making what $650,000 right, well here is $2million to say your goodbyes and report to work on Monday. I think most would say their goodbyes to management and good luck with that special project. My co worker here who has shared responsibilities in my department with me can take over from here on out.So you are interviewing a candidate on December 4th for this key position - you identify someone who you feel is a very good fit - you are ready to make an offer - you ask "how soon can you start?"
They say "Well, Because of the special project I'm on (and the rules of my bonus plan) I have to stick around to help manage a part of this huge nationally televised presentation that you have heard we are doing in Arizona on January 1st .... after that I'm ready to be exclusively focused on the new job,"
they may go on to say "along the way, I should have some real quality time to get started on some of the fundamentals of this new position with your organization"
Do you stand up and say "absolutely not! if you can't quit and walk out of your position immediately, we don't want you " of course not! - would you hire somebody who would quit & depart a job with zero notice? no!
We do not know the terms that Ash discussed with Hobbs we do not know Hobbs' contractual obligations ... basically there are no details to be had - - will learn more tomorrow.
Didn't Narduzzi stay on with MSU?
Steve Sarkisian coached in the Rose Bowl, non title run for USC after being named Washington HC.
Mark Dantonio is another, he stayed at OSU to coach in a non title Fiesta Bowl against KSU before taking over Cincy.
So you have Strong, Narduzzi, Sarkisian, Dantonio.
Not if ND puts up 45 pts. Then it will be a PR disaster. Different circumstances between Herman and Ash. Herman went to a G5 school out of conference. Ash is going to a team in the same division, better for both parties to go their separate ways now. Plus he is co-DC they have Fickle already in place he could easily sub in.Tom Herman stayed through the NCG last year FWIW. I understand that game meant more but this could simply be "the deal" at OSU.
The positive is that will be the highest rated game outside the playoffs and we'll be mentioned positively often. I'd prefer him here too but it's not the end of the world. Late nights for Ash though coming up, no doubt.
Not exactly the way to win the hearts and minds of the RU faithful, or our recruits.
you are comparing apples to oranges to make excuses for this situation, the BYU coach is the head coach, our "ash" is an assistant coach. Add to that other head coaches like Babers from BGSU, starting with cuse immediately because he gets itVirginias new coach will be coaching BYU in their bowl game
Kirby Smart did. What part of he is helping a competitor win their bowl game and get an aadvantage dont people understand. That insane actually...other coaches who stayed on didnt get jobs in the same leagues..will Ash still be recruiting for them too
Well I know pellini did it as Lsu . But that was for a national championship . Hobbs just made a questionable hire and then let this transpire . Terrible , but par for the course at ru
You want our new coach to be dead before he gets here? It's going to be awkward enough for him just being at that game...All of Ohio State already knows he is Rutgers' coach so would it hurt anyone if he wore some Rutgers gear while coaching Ohio State's defense?
Who's he?Just curious.....how many people have Plum Street on their IGNORE list ???
Actually we should raise hell so he can fix things before the press conference. SL will be all over Ash if he waits to after the bowl game to coach here full time.I think fans should wait until after the press conference to make further comments on this subject.I'm sure the media will ask Hobbs and Ash on this subject and other topics.
I suspect the next 10 days he's going to be pretty much 100% RU in terms of meeting with recruits and building his staff.
Then the dead zone hits and he really can't do much.
I'd rather him be 100% RU starting tomorrow, but then again, I have no idea what the situation is. Maybe he will be taking other assistant coaches from OSU and cut a deal with Urban that in order to poach he needs to be there for the bowl game? Maybe it's contractual? Maybe it's a recruiting strategy?
No idea, but you have to assume there is a pretty good reason because Ash really doesn't mess around.
But of course, you have the same bozos in this thread jumping to conclusions. Probably the same people who thought we were getting Les Miles. Think before you type people.
People can spin all they want..its not a positive thing and whoever did the hiring Greg Brown I assume screwed up
Maybe he wants to coach the bowl because he knows it will be awhile before he sees one this good again.
Maybe he wants to coach the bowl because he knows it will be awhile before he sees one this good again.
I agree, RU screwed up not insisting he has to start ASAP. Otherwise, pay more for a proven coach, who can start the turn around.
I think the 'Wildcard' saw how RU wasn't really serious about winning (eg paying the price), and said 'no thanks'.
He is the head coach, different sitution. OSU even has another defensive coordinator. Just baffling that Hobbs didnt make starting right away part of the offer.Virginias new coach will be coaching BYU in their bowl game
