Ash to Coach tOSU Bowl Game

if I told my present employer I was going to work for a competitor i would have to give a 2 month notice/or would not be able to leave until my postion is filled whichever happens first.
Why because it is in my contract.

Did you read his contract?

Honestly, you guys are ridiculous. In typical Rutgers fan fashion we are sandbagging the guy before his press conference.

I love Rutgers Athlectics, but quite honestly could care less about many of its fans.

Are you guys nutts with this "rival" talk. First off, we are nothing to OSU so stop w the rivalry. Second, what does him coaching them, and getting more insight when he already has plenty and when they are not playing against us while he is there, have to do with us at all. How is it a disadvantage on the field ?

James Franklin to recruit considering RU: "Son, would you want to play for someone that put his old team before his new team? Let that sink in for a few minutes."

so instead of addressing and debating my point which is not negative, its actually opinion, you personally attack me as usual

Easy solution....change your MO. Start posting comments that add to the conversation instead of posting stupid hit and run comments not backed by facts or common sense. Do you know his contract details with OSU? No......yet you jump in with a stupid ' Rutgers screw up ' comment.

I think all of you should riot and march on your new AD's office and demand they not hire Ash. I can assure you Buckeyes fans will join in faxing and emailing to help.

We were set to play for the NC in 2013 but failed becuase our defense was a mess. Meyer went out and hand picked Ash to come in a get it straight, the next season we won the championship and our D was great with pretty much the same players as the year before. Buckeye fans are not happy he is leaving

All of you crying because he is honoring a commitment he made to Meyer in 2014 when he was hired are a bunch of dumb f*cks. He spent the last two years learning leadership and recruiting philosophies from one of the best of all time and he already had the knowledge of X's and O's.

He iwill end up being the best coach your program has ever had, but please by all means do everything you can to prevent his hiring. Buckeye nation would appreciate it because now we have to find another competent DC.

It's likely but we don't even know if the rose bowl picks OSU over Iowa.

Ash is shooting himself in the foot with this decision. The media is going to eat him alive. Recruiting is going to suffer. The fans are not going to be happy. You can spin it anyway you want but this isn't a good look.[
Should be here now. Ridiculous! Already showing inexperience.
showing you have no patience. And given his resume and your lack of... I'll put my money on him over you any day

Understand your point but with our fans & media attention and NJ coaches, this will be a major issue that will never be forgotten at least till he wins here.

Has been a big winner every college he's been at. That's why ND pays him a lot. Why schools that pay little and afraid to speak up, are usually losers.
And was directly responsible for a college student losing their life.

Some good fans don't see the value to recruits hearing Rutgers, ASH, Urban and Ohio State on national TV in a major bowl game. It's okay though, venting is good. It has been a very long year and many did not want to criticize until the season was over. I, however, think it is a good thing.

Everyone just needs to relax. The guy hasn't even been officially announced yet. Legally, he may not be able to say ANYTHING contrary to coaching Ohio State in the bowl game until everything is official.

Even if OSU has a contract that will not allow him to get out... it's still better to get a great potential coach for the long run, and it won't make a huge difference because of the recruiting dead period. He'll be here for the live period.

a couple mentions big deal, you really don't see the assistants spotlighted all that much

I would rather have him working here rather than helping a conference mate in our division win their game and improve their program

The reality is that OSU is the one that loses out by keeping Ash on staff. I have moved on to other jobs and stayed on to help transition projects etc. the reality is once I accepted the new role I was gone. My attention was 99% focused on setting myself up for success in my next gig. My old company got very little out of me during the transition if I am being honest. They would have been better off just parting ways and immediately transitioning all of my work to someone who would be 100% focused on the task at hand.

As a result, whenever any of my staff moves on to a new job, I cut ties immediately and just ask them to be available by email or phone for a week or two in case whoever is taking over their responsibilities has any questions. I have never had a problem with this approach.

Does anyone think he may just be following the lead of Tom Hermann who did the same thing last year? He could possibly be thinking this is what he's supposed to do, because the last guy did this and it worked out fine. Either he, or Urban may have made him think this is standard protocol and how it's supposed to be done.

Not saying I like it. But I will take this any day of the week over Al Golden running Rutgers football into the ground. We made a good hire, and I think the cloud over Rutgers is finally starting to move on.

This board continues to plumb new and greater depths.

Even after all these years (16? 17?) I'm shocked at how over-rotated people are about this whole bowl game thing.

The guy is getting introduced tomorrow as our new coach. Here. In New Jersey.

He'll be coaching for OSU on New Year's Day.

Between then and now is a week's worth of allowed recruiting. He'll be as effective as he can be, given the fact that he's being officially announced on December 7.

Only Urban Meyer will be featured. I watch a lot of college Football, and probably saw 6 OSU games this year, and doubt I ever noticed Ash, let alone heard the announcer mention him. Maybe they will at the Bowl, maybe not.

I respect your opinion and concede the mention will have a positive effect. Just still wish he was here full time starting tomorrow. OSU already has another Defensive coordinator and isn't playing for a national championship. Just don't think OSU couldn't live without his coaching.

Some people in this thread are going to be in their glory when we lose a game under the new coach.

It all comes down to how you pitch it. I imagine part of the recruiting process involves a coach telling a kid, to trust him that the coach will develop the player and be with the player through good times and bad. If Ash says, his decision to coach the tOSU bowl game is an example of how he will honor his commitments and see them through to their conclusion, I imagine that would appeal to some recruits and families. What message does it send to a Rutgers recruit if their new coach is willing to leave players he has been devoted to high and dry before their bowl game? If Ash bails on his tOSU players, why wouldn't a Rutgers recruit expect any different from Ash in the future?

Last year Urban Meyer was calling Kareem Walker at halftime of the NC game , recruiting him, lol. There is only going to be one guy benefitting from that game, and it's Urban Meyer.

You guys are just Plain insane...... Threads like this are why I am never on this board anymore.
This place has gone completely insane. Have never seen so many ridiculous threads. How can people take a positive event...moving away from a failed coach to an exciting new hire from a national championship program...and twist it up into such a negative? Do people even think anymore?

I would have a problem if OSU was playing Rutgers and our new coach was on the OSU sidelines. Since they are not playing us, and OSU is representing the B1G and its brothers, who cares if our new coach is helping OSU win.

You are putting lipstick on a pig. Revisionist history of what actually went down.

I like guys who finish what they start. This bodes well for Rutgers when we are in a big time bowl game the NFL comes after Ash. No problem with this at all.

Exactly. Fans and Rutgers Athletics could turn this into a real positive on Twitter should tOSU turn in a fine defensive performance by tweeting that is Rutgers Head Coach Chris Ash with the shutdown defense.
And how much is anyone working December 25 through January 1? How many high school coaches will be around and at work? Will not most coaches and recruits be celebrating holidays with their family?

Alright i don't understand how people are freaking out about ash finishing the bowl game with OSU... Do people not realize that the bowl season is a dead period for recruiting?? So there is no reason why he can't go and coach that game. My god you would think that we re hired flood with the way you guys are talking. don't care what the maryland coach is doing let ash do his thing then the minute that game is over he becomes our head coach. He is able to recruit for us until Dec 14th then comes the dead period... Relax guys it will all be ok.

Ok what about assembling the staff? Or meeting the team? Establishing relationships? There is literally 100 other things he could be doing to help us get ready but instead he chooses to help his former team who is a COMPETITOR IN OUR OWN DIVISION win a bowl game as a CO-COORDINATOR. He's not the head coach there or even the only defensive coordinator. We need him more than OSU does and this is his team now. Sorry this is a bad decision any way you cut it. Its not game breaking or anything but its just gives off a bad first impression kind of like hes not fully committed to being here. I know thats not the case but thats the impression it gives off. And people here are going to talk about it because what else do you want us to talk about? Its just a shame because there was such excitement about his hire and what we're gonna see out of him and he starts off on the wrong foot.

This is England, this is how we feel....
