ASU vs. RU for Cliff?

If he wants to be an engineer and play high level D1 basketball what better example than Myles Johnson. Don’t know much about ASU’s engineering but Rutgers engineering is highly respected in industry.

Romello White isn’t getting drafted. ASU just lost by 30 and he is a nice player but a poor FT shooter. He will likely be playing internationally.
Whether or not Romello White is drafted isn't the point.

It's about declaring for the draft and not returning to ASU. That's what Omoruyi would be waiting to see.

Lots of bigs are poor free throw shooters but still get drafted btw. However, I agree with you that White isn't getting drafted.

Arizona State claims that the "Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University is the largest and most comprehensive engineering program in the United States."

If true that's pretty good.

Again I am as big of a fan as there is on this board. But I am just telling you what I have heard. If my info is wrong then I apologize for that but this is coming from an NJ HS coach.

So basically you are trying to create an equivalency (in writing mind you) that ASU, a program under investigation by the FBI is the same as RU, a program with not even any rumors of wrong doing. What a nice fan you are (or at least claim to be).

I really wish our fans would stop making predetermined excuses and accusations of accepting money against every top guy we recruit. Gonna be awkward when one signs here.
sounds like a case of being sorry RU can only give 4 figures ( under the table) then the 5 programs that steal recruits away from RU do [roll]

Largest doesn't make it the best. McDonalds is the largest restaurant chain, but it is hardly the best restaurant.
Quite true. They also claim to be the most comprehensive engineering school.

At the end of the day I don't think which engineering school is the best will matter. However, it is a great thing to tell reporters.

Kind of like when a magician hold his left arm out and draws attention to his left hand even though the "magic" is happening over to his right

I used to say Rutgers is poor mans Harvard. ASU is a party school. Not hard to get into.

No see that’s where you are misunderstanding me. Do I think Rutgers is an ncaa investigation waiting to happen? No. Do I think Pike is a sleeze ball trying to cheat the system to win? No.

The point I’m trying to make is that Rutgers isn’t the one program out of the 65 power 5 schools that is squeaky clean. Are we dropping cars and bags of cash off to recruits ? No. But we aren’t squeaky clean, and the NCAA isn’t worried about Rutgers because it’s not the same level as the dukes and Arizona’s of the world.

This fan base thinks we are going to be on like the Louisville level of athletic success, but we are going to get there acting like Dartmouth and Princeton. Today you can’t achieve those things like that.

I am not bashing RU, or slandering Pikes name. But I am trying to explain to you how this stuff works. My buddy has coached at least 5 power 5 kids in the last 3 years and 3 of them are ranked in the top 100 of their class. I know the things that get offered and what happens around recruiting.

Sorry to spoil your day but college basketball is a corrupt world

They are? I missed that. Why?

True. And at the end of the day, if he wants a degree in engineering, he can get a perfectly respectable degree from ASU, or Kentucky, or Rutgers.

So much nonsense gets posted publicly on message boards. This thread, more than any, made me wonder whether at some point a kid or a program might get a lawyer and file a defamation claim against some internet heroes who want to act as if they are solidly in the know.

Lol you said defamation claim . Yes because the Rutgers message board has such a broad reach that the masses of people’s opinion of someone will be changed.

At least one person filed a defamation suit against message board posters

Honestly, just shut the f*ck up.

Don't come onto a Rutgers fan board and make a specific accusation of Rutgers committing NCAA violations, when your only information about the topic is 'you know this guy...and he knows' and 'that's just the way things work.' If you have some specific info you'd like to put in the public domain...call a reporter... they will pay you for your story. Otherwise, stop slandering my university with your hearsay friend-of-a-friend bullshit.

Oh, I'm not upset all. I'm just telling you to STFU. You are either (a) a troll from another school; or (b) an idiot. You can take your pick.

Saying there are guys on the current roster that you know were paid to play at Rutgers....[roll]

Sounds like garbage to me. I’ve never really asked any of my friends/ sources that question and I would feel somewhat embarrassed to do so. However, call me naive but I can’t see this administration/ coaching staff paying anyone to play here at Rutgers.
I realize it does happen elsewhere but I would think at a much lower percentage then you think. A few bad apples -win at any cost...

I never asked, I was told. And again that proves my what I just said about the fan base being naive.
You or your friends are full of it. I doubt that you really know anybody of note that would be in a position to know. It's the same type of know it all people that make the same type of blanket statements about everything. I guess you think I am naive.

By far the best thing about this latest thoughtful, creditable post is that he starts out laughing his f'ing ass. Not sure how that's done or what it is, but I have no doubt this guy can laugh his ass, just as he speaks from it. Only then does he proceed to the type of laughing that makes his ass come off. Good stuff.

So why is your buddies so forthcoming to you about info on federal crimes that his players have committed? Just bar room chit chat I guess?

ASU’s season will have no bearing on his decision.
RU isn’t pulling in top talent, nor do we need to (look at us now).

ASU is going to give him 5+ figures to play there, we aren’t going to match that
And you’re certain of this...look $$$$ is always the thought ... been around for a long time... but for the comment “ Rutgers isn’t pulling in top talent” ... it’s only a few schools who do consistently... if Rutgers begins to be a winning and consistent NCAA March participant they too will bring in the supposed elite players... honestly in today’s College BB world a core of hard working players just below the 5* level can win and go pretty far.

I used to say Rutgers is poor mans Harvard. ASU is a party school. Not hard to get into.
Yes ASU is a party school and well documented as such... have a niece only a frosh ... she grew up in an upper class area NJ ....very good schools but one of her main reasons for going to college at ASU... weather... sports...and yes PARTYING... sad but true... not saying that’s bad but those reasons are just what many kids want .
