Was just over on the Rutgers Sports site. #4 Miami swept the 3 game series by scores of 4-1, 2-0, and 8-1. Nothing to be surprised about.

On the plus side the 3 RU starters gave up a total of 4 ER's in around 16 innings in the 3 games. Today's starter gave up 0 ER's in his 5 1/3 innings. RU gave up a number of unearned runs late. RU didn't hit in any of the games. I believe they only had 3 today.

Miami baseball is like OSU Football. On an entirely different level.

Exactly Al. No expert but it sounds like the starting pitching may be a strength if you can judge by 1 start. Also, no matter what you do I'd have to think training inside in NJ vs Southern Fla is a rather large disadvantage.

Feel better about this showing than the 4-game sweep from last year and Miami, #6 in the nation, is a legit title contender this season.

To bring it to football, WR Jawan Harris played in all 3 games, starting 2. He went 1-6 with 1 Assist and 1 Error in CF/LF.

I know it's Miami, but only 2 runs in 3 games? ... Ugh

#6 team in the nation, apparently a phenomenal pitching staff as well, not gonna get worried. I'm more interested with how well our starters looked against them and, in Games 1 and 2, that was "very good."

I took a peek at Indiana's baseball schedule. They open with Middle Tennessee. To their credit, they then travel to Cal State-Fullerton, a serious baseball program, then a handful of neutral site games in Florida with Seton Hall, Illinois State, Butler. Get this, a sort of southern school, Western Carolina, visits Bloomington, IN for a weekend series. Rutgers, let's face it, when they schedule Miami, it is pie-eyed optimism. Hope the players at least get a trip to South Beach to check out the scenery.

Losing to the Hurricanes was no surprise. In years past we'd win more than a few on the Southern swing after facing the Canes. Let's see how this group does. I agree with others, these weren't bad losses.

RU is 12-59 against Miami. All games have been played at Miami. We usually open the season there, where as powerhouse Miami has some games under there belt and has been practicing outside all off season as opposed to RU (and every other Northeast /North) team practicing inside.

There's a big reason most high school baseball stars go South for College (if offered).

Our starting pitching was very good, that's good news.
It's VERY difficult to catch up to good pitching hitting inside all winter, basically it's impossible.
We had no offense, but we'll get better swinging the bat every series.

The best start may have been Game 3. As I said earlier, he gave up 2 unearned runs in 5 1/3. The other 6 were given up by a series of relievers which also included a number of unearned runs. In the series, 7 of Miami's 14 runs were unearned.

Game Name, Inns, Hits, ER, K, BB

1-Brey, 6.0, 8, 3, 7, 1

2-Driscoll, 5.0, 5, 1, 4, 4

3-O'Reilly, 5.3, 4, 0, 2, 3

Question is our head coach Litterio any good? I don't know much about our baseball team but I see he only had one winning season at Wagner before coming here as an assistant.

It doesn't really matter. Any top HS talent is going South or Southwest to college. It's what you can do with the others. Right now Notre Dame usually gets the best Baseball HS talent of the rest of the NE kids, and St Johns and Maryland , and to a smaller degree Seton Hall, has out recruited Ru for the balance.

We have a sub par field, sub par practice facilites and new, fairly unknown Head Coach. Good luck w that scenario.

Practice facilities will not be subpar soon.

Great ! I go to about 4 or 5 RU BB games a season. Did the Museum become a 'sponser ? " I still remember seeing RU in the NCAA Regionals vs No. Carolina and Penn St , played at Yogi Berra Stadium, a mere 1 mile from where I live.

Why does practicing inside put hitters at a disadvantage? It doesn't seem obvious..

You can't recreate game conditions in a batting cage.
No wind or elements
Pitchers are behind screens
Pitchers don't run the ball hard up and in against team-mates.
Teams down south play practice and simulated games recreating game conditions.
All the indoor batting practice in the world can't get you ready for a 90 plus fastball

Western Carolina is in Cullowhee,NC. That's up in the mountains.A beautiful setting.I watched them ,The Catamounts, play FB on a 70 degree day in Oct. The air was crystal clear and the Sun was unbearable.Felt like you were getting fried .Altitude of 2400 ft. A really great setting.

Baseball seems to have the same problem as Wrestling, Tennis, etc. . . Are these Coaches any good? Bring in Elite Coaches, and the talent will flock to them. Ultimately, Kids want access to Elite Coaching Staffs, regardless of sport.

competitive games! and in game 2 ru hit a 2 run homer that would had given them a 2-1 lead but a debatable foul ball call by the home plate umpire over ruled it.

the team is expected to hit they just ran in to some really good arms. pitching is always ahead of the hitting this early in the season. remember hitting a pitched baseball could be the hardest thing to do in all of sports

this team was well prepared heading down there and imo had an excellent showing. ru didn't hit live in a cage all winter. they were actually able to get outside and play about 8 or 9 inter squads before heading down to Miami. but unfortunately ru can't simulate Miami's pitching.
the biggest concern for this team will be the defense especially in the middle. lets hope the boys pride themselves on flashing the leather this spring. if they do this season will be a vast improvement over last years.

Good to know they got outside and hit live...explain to me what you mean by the didn't hit live in the cage all winter, I'm sure someone was throwing to them inside?

Holy troll! Wrestling was ranked as high as #6 this year, just knocked off #7 Lehigh Saturday night, and has beaten a total of 5 Top 20 programs this season.

by live in the cage I mean a pitcher trying to get you out not a coach throwing bp
in the past to prepare for this weekend ru had their pitchers throw live at bats to the hitters in the cages inside the rack. no elements or etc. just a pitcher hitter and catcher... this year they never had to do that b/c they were able to get outside on their field and inter squad instead.

Troll huh? Does this mean that Goodale is an Elite Coach? It's a simple yes or no question.

You said "are these coaches any good" and threw wrestling (see: Goodale) into the conversation. Completely ignorant comment that makes zero sense considering the facts behind where this program was, what he has done, and where it is now.

Nuts ... Goodale is doing more than a solid job. Elite might be another matter. Should Rutgers AD be wary of Goodale being hired away?

I never said he was an "elite" coach although I think he is slowly moving his way up the ladder. The poster, above, made 2 separate statements of which I was responding to the obvious ("are these coaches ANY good...") one that made zero sense.

Back to baseball for a moment. Just for some perspective to show how difficult it is for Northeastern schools to compete, other than Stony Brook's run a few years ago there has not been a NE school in the CWS this century. Maine in 1986 may be the last prior to that. The B1G record is just as bad. As far as I can tell, Indiana is the only school to get that far in at least 20 years. Nebraska has done it several times but all were as a member of the Big 12.

Good to see the starting pitching did well.
Brey has been in the rotation for awhile, so that is good the he picked up where he left off. I know Discoll has made starts in the past. Nice job by him. O'Reilly had four wins and believe he pitched well in the Iowa series last year (they were top 10).
We have a couple of good freshmen too

You know that's a troll comment. Don't even try to defend yourself, you'll look even dumber. Lumping wresting in the same category as tennis. Just stop. Goodale is a damn good coach

I guess the answer is no. Does that also count for Tennis too?
