Big 12 Expansion

From the UConn meltdown, I mean message board...

Poster on reddit says these are being printed on campus at UC right now

If it's Houston and BYU poor WVU.

Since it's for football only and will obviously be in different divisions then it means 1 trip about every 4 years.

They want football only because of the expense if did all sports for travel and it cures the BYU Sunday games issue.

Actually, the rumors have been that WVU has been against the Cincinnati add, because they have relied much more on Ohio recruiting (more than 20 OH kids on the roster) since joining the B12 (and don't want the competition).

Also, keep in mind it is the other schools that have the incentive to pick someone close to WVU. The WVU teams are always going to have a lot of travel anyway. A Cincinnati add would help the non-fb teams from other schools by letting them schedule a second game on a trip to WVU.

It will be interesting if they announce any extension of the GOR. If not this may only be a short lived expansion.

If there's a bad decision to be made, I am confident the big dumpster fire...errrr b12...will make it!

That's a good point. Weren't Texas and OU saying they would not extend their GOR?
Yes, that what was being talked about on XM this morning on the first team. Without a GOR extension the conference is still unstable. Also the UC B12 banner is said to be a fake on the UC message board. Had the wrong logo apparently.

The debunking of the "fake" UC banner has now been debunked. Evidently that is one of their official logos.

Yes WVU is against Cinncy..thats confirmed..this is the B12..THEY THEMSELVES have no idea what will haappen till they hold a vote. ESPN wants to pay off the B12 NOT to add schools and redo the contract. No way Texas or OU signs a GOR,because they want the option to leave the B12.

I heard BYU and Nebraska goin home o_O

Sshhhhh. It's actually Idaho and Nebraska. Nebraska has agreed to 0 payout for 8 years so other schools will do better. Delany offered to let the woman's bowling team to have no road games for 2 years to stay. NU BOR in emergency meeting to discuss and decide. Must be done by 3:00pm Central time.

Nebraska goin home (to B12) + BYU is the non-ambiguous version.

If they're stupid enough to do that, they should be mocked, unceasingly!!

I don't think the children of the corn are that stupid, though...especially because it means giving up B1G $$$

The idea of one or both additions being football only is interesting and sounds plausible, because it fits as a compromise between the contract saying ESPN/Fox have to pay $20MM and the rumors that ESPN didn't want to pay full price for any additions.

I was just riffing on the ridiculous rumor from a week or two ago. Don't recall huskers posting in that one so thought I'd throw it "in the mix".

It sounds like as much as any reason it is because the "not so wealthy" schools would only vote to expand if it was this way. They also were not willing to change the Sunday game stuff for BYU and BYU wasn't going to change their charter for it. Unlike the Big 10 they thought about some of this in advance. The travel budget for NU is more than double what the Big12 was. While they will be making more in the upcoming contract it is tough to know what a Big 12 contract would have been worth if it stayed intact.

I agree on the football only move.

BYU, Houston, Cincy, and/or Colorado State were the only options that made any sense whatsoever.

The idea (scam) behind football only is to pay those schools for Football only membership and then pocket the rest of the $50 million and give it to the current 10 schools.

FOX and ESPN are fighting it btw. However they are the ones how agreed to that crazy contract with this loophole.

Well, the Texas President just left with his suitcases in tow and so did the Texas Tech Pres. looks like the meetings over and I doubt they would have an expansion meeting without all there and doubtful the meeting would end 3hrs early if working out an expansion plan.

Texas is only about Texas. Tech thinks it can save itself when the B12 blows up by tying itself to Texas. I know they get rumoured for the B1G but please keep them out. They are a conf killer.

Memphis and Tulane were reasonable schools to consider as well given their market, geographic relevance to the XII and money.

Market?!? The Big 12 doesn't have a network and never will (hello LHN) so that doesn't factor in like it did with the other Power 5 conferences.

No new members were added to the #Big12 during today's Big 12 Board of Directors meeting, multiple sources tell http://HornsDigest.com

Have heard the same. What a disaster this has been. Was the Big 12 trying to get more money out of the networks?

Yup, just got a Bleacher Report update that B12 Officials are choosing not to expand after their Board of Directors meeting today

I hope the B1G lands OU when this blows up.

Somehow I doubt the state of Oklahoma politicos allow ou to dislodge itself from osu...it's not a law or anything, but over 100 of association will not end...and before you use the A&M and Texas example as a retort, that was completely different...as both could operate on their own and the b12 did not die...if ou leaves the b12 does die and ok state will not be allowed to wither...

Isn't it 9 years before a Big 12 team can leave because of GOR?

The GOR ends at the same time as the new current Big Ten TV contract ends. So if the Big 12 do not extend the GOR, then we all know that OU and Texas plan to do. Both are against extending it. But if it does get extended then, the Big 12 will be safe.
