Akron, Oh., 6' 5" 260lb., DE Bryce Hargrove will be choosing between RU, Pitt, and Cincy, with RU and Pitt thought to be the top two contenders for Hargrove's services.

So c'mon, Bryce and join the Rutgers family! -You are WELCOME!!

(FWIW, since you can never really be sure with recruiting, 247sports' crystal ball prediction has him RU bound.)

I'm guessing Cincinnati. Sounds like it's been his leader all along.

From the piece stating when Hargrove would announce, Bryce "admitted Rutgers and Pitt to be the two teams on top". -But as said above, you can never tell with recruiting. Appears, though, we won't have to wait too long to find out the straight skinny on Bryce's college destination.

I went over to both the Pitt & Cinci sites, and not a word about Hargrove! This was particularly interesting when you look at both teams commit list. Pitt does not have a DEnd commit this year, or last. Cinci looks about the same. Cinci has about 12 commits, while Pitt is struggling with about 6. I know there is still plenty of time, but not to show love to a guy from the midwest(especially Cinci), who though has not been rated(stars), with huge upside at 6'5" and 260. Just curious.
Mr. Hargrove if you are listening we want you, and believe that you would be a great addition to our family!
One more thing about Hargrove, his offer sheet includes Harvard, Yale, and Cornell. We now know that he understands the "student" in "student athlete."

Before everyone assumes he chose Pitt over RU please let me save you the angst. Premium spelled this choice out earlier in the week and Hargrove was there for RU if they wanted him.

Too late. The Syracuse board already has a 20 page thread laughing about how we lost out on an unrated, out of state player to an ACC school and celebrating it as the death knell of the RU football program.

On a serious note, congrats and good luck Bryce!

So, we didn't offer ?

This is why I like your free board. There is always activity on here and you folks at least follow recruiting. Meanwhile, on the Pitt free board...

Serious questions-which fanbase has a more passionate hatred for PSU, Pitt or Rutgers?

Who does PSU consider more of a rival, Pitt or Rutgers. (not a trick question!)

Remember how you guys used to ridicule PSU fans for this spin?

probably Rutgers. Pitt fans don't even care for their own team.

PITT - not even close. Like, not even in the same stratosphere close. You honestly can not even have a discussion with them. There is a lot of history there and a lot of bad blood from the Eastern Conference, Big East and, finally, the 2:1. I'll admit it. I don't want to play Pitt regularly unless it is 2:1 or greater. They made their bed 30 years ago and now they can wade in the shet that their program has become. We don't have to beat Pitt to be considered the premier program in PA. That's my take on it.

I am in the minority but I believe it is Rutgers. We don't play Pitt. Pitt is not in our conference. We own Pitt in recruiting. No one, including Pitt themselves, gives a shet about Pitt football. Now, Rutgers is a different story. Look at the passion you guys have for your program and the support you give them. You are in our conference. You are in our division. Recruiting isn't on par with PSU at this point but NJ (and I've said this forever) is the second most important state to PSU's LT success because they are right across the bridge.

I've learned to at least have some respect for you guys and can have a rational discussion. Maybe that is easy because we beat you and we are winning the recruiting wars. I honestly don't know. I'll tell you this though. I'm in sales and have spent the majority of my time in sales leadership. If I had to pick Rutgers or Pitt for a HC gig, I would pick Rutgers 10/10 and I would sell the hell out of it. There is literally nothing to sell about Pitt other than a WPIAL kid playing in front of the hometown (COUGH, COUGH). Equal academics I suppose, but that's it.

Its Pitt right now for obvious reasons. They are in the same state. They had a sustained period of success that Rutgers hasnt matched. The whole thing between the two RUINED the chanes for Eastern FB - which would actually probably be raiding teams from both the ACC and the Big Ten right now if it had ever really gotten it together.) But that will fade now that Rutgers is playing you every year and Pitt isnt.

@Knight Shift you shouldn't have got me started.

"In the state of Pennsylvania, (the) Pitt-Penn State football game is where it starts," Narduzzi told reporters at ACC Football Media Days. "I think in the state of Pennsylvania, if they could play that game 12 weeks out of the year, they would vote yes to do that. It's an in-state rivalry. You know that's a rivalry. I'm all for keeping that thing going. I know Scott Barnes, our athletic director, is working on that."

No Pat, that's not true. Pitt wants to play Penn State on a 1:1 annual basis because it puts money in their pocket (stadium capacity) and gives them a chance to knock off the king and boost recruiting. Now let's talk about what it does for Penn State:

That's right, nothing. If they wanted to play us annually so badly they should have thought about that 30 years ago.

One thing that stuck out to me about Hargrove was how slow he looked on film. This site tends to delete stuff like that if you post it about a potential recruit so I hinted about it last week. He really didn't look like he would fit in with our defense.

Kjb, since you think you can't even have a discussion with us, why do regularly post on the Pitt board? And as any Rutgers fan who has been to the Pitt and PSU boards can attest, while both boards have their crazies (all boards do), there are no coach-worshipping, cult like thinkers on the Pitt board, and that is largely what you'll find on the PSU board.

I don't go to the PSU free board.

I can't post on the PITT board. I'm sure Chris got sick of seeing me being reported so he just dropped the hammer. Who knows since he sent me a cute little PM template and then never responded to my inquiry of why I was banned. You have one guy over there who is the worst poster on any board I have ever been on...and that's saying a lot.

"That's right, nothing. If they wanted to play us annually so badly they should have thought about that 30 years ago."

30 years ago, Pitt was playing PSU annually and probably neither fan base could have envisioned the day when that would not be the case. But Pitt did set the stage for the current situation in 1981 by not joining with PSU, RU, and WVU in the push for an eastern all-sports conference and, instead, joined the Big East basketball conference. The failure of an all-sports conference to materialize is what sent PSU off to the B1G once the opportunity presented itself.

Yep. Please keep in mind that Penn State applied for, and was denied, admission to the Big East because they didn't want to take our basketball team.

Whoops.

So the Big East scorned Joe Paterno and then several schools scorned him regarding the Eastern Conference. With PSU in the driver's seat several years later, those same schools (and possibly yours...I don't know) then got upset when Paterno demanded a 2:1 arrangement.

Navy plays ND every single year. Take a guess at how many home games Navy has had during their series.

Wrong - Paterno tried joining the BE, but they chose Pitt instead. Paterno then tried putting together an eastern conference in which he wanted to call the shots and give PS a bigger piece of the pie.

Yep. Then PSU joined the premier all around conference in the land and Pitt gets upset they won't play them. Funny, because Pitt won't play WVU because there is absolutely nothing in it for Pitt. They don't want WVU anywhere near the WPIAL.

I like when fanbases of other teams fight on Scarlet Nation threads. Where did the Pitt fan come from? Does he lurk here? For that matter, A lot of PSU fans post here when something PSU-related is posted. Do you guys have some sort of alerts set up to let you know when something is posted about your school?

I check your board in spurts and will watch a thread if I find it interesting. Good conversation on here and it is pretty busy for a free board.

PSU posters probably come here because they can and your posters are at least respectful for the most part. I will never understand why people would want to post in a think tank environment.

So 30 years ago an eastern conference would have been PSU, Pitt, RU WVU and who else?

Interesting:
"The Big East eventually was formed under a similar structure to Paterno's idea, and Penn State was left out of the mix. When Penn State attempted to join, the conference turned their back on the school largely due to the state of Penn State's basketball program, a sticking point that was not a hassle when Miami applied for membership a few years later."

If that was any criterion for Rutgers joining the B1G, we would have been left in the AAC. In what year was Paterno pushing this plan, and how bad was PSU hoops?

In the 1980s. Penn State basketball has been horrible forever sans the mid 1990s. Oddly enough, that is when I was doing my grad work at PSU.

Rutgers would have most likely been asked to join the conference as well. Not that anyone cares for Paterno, but he was a big proponent for getting Rutgers in the B1G. I'm sure it was for selfish reasons, but still.

Joe Paterno was a lot of things but he wasn't stupid. You show me the best PSU teams that ever took the field and I'll show you a roster filled with NJ kids.

He was unheralded, but Trey Bauer was one tough SOB and probably one of the biggest reasons that PSU beat Miami in the Orange Bowl. He wouldn't take shet from anyone and would have thrown down with any of those Miami kids.

I don't run down recruits but since he's gone, I'm not crushed by his decision.

Do you mean the 1987 Fiesta Bowl? I remember going to the house of a friend who went to PSU to watch that game.

Trey Bauer made a team-high 12 tackles and forced a fumble in Penn State’s 1987 win over the Miami Hurricanes.

I think what he meant was, that he wasn't a priority for RU.
This. When the mods on premium, who are theabsolute furthest things from homers, tell you where he was on the RU DE board you listen. Don`t want to say more because its not my place. Good luck to Hargrove.

Yeah, my bad.

The Miami players used to try to get in the middle of everything Penn State was doing. PSU was doing stretching exercises before the NC game and Miami players (Michael Irvin in particular) came in the middle of them. Bauer picked up a football and threw it at him. Irving didn't do anything and walked away. That night he dropped a ton of balls and later said it was because the ball was wet. Bauer said it was because he was a p**** and was afraid of getting hit.

The first time Michael Irvin tried catching a ball in that game he almost had every bone in his body broken. After that, he was afraid to catch the ball.
