Bryce Watts in the Transfer Portal

They should have listened to Paradise by the Dashboard Light.
Yes, the point was stay close to home if you have a girlfriend at home. That's what we saw with Vokolek (minus the baby). But some of our folks here want to pile on Ash for that, yet we would welcome Watts with open arms. That said, while Watts' has indicated there is nothing about the team/coaches driving his decision, there was certainly a mass defection from VT this spring and summer.

Shouldn’t the real lesson be - drop the HS girlfriend (or boyfriend) when leaving for college?

Disclosure - wish someone had told me this lesson before freshman year.

I remember Schiano speaking at a Touchdown Club meeting where he stated that you must keep a spot or two open into the Summer time because you never know who could fall into your lap or be a late qualifier. You would think/hope that Coach Ash knows this as well.

We took other transfers who were needed like Carter and the TE from Wisconsin.

There are like 15 wide receivers on this roster that seemingly can’t get open.
And how the heck is this possible anyhow?!? Forget about the QB for a sec - these guys are doing absolutely nothing to help him. They can't get open, they can't catch anything. The only thing they're really good at is tipping the ball into defenders hands.

Were the WRs a problem at IMG too?

I love this board, we win one game last year and people think we should pass on a kid that could step in and be a starter on defense. The scholarship issue will work itself out. This kid is a take if he wants to come here.

Not a matter of passing, it's a matter of available ships and needs. Even if there was a ship available, they will probably hold it for a DT transfer.

The kid is a take but he won't be able to play probably until after the 1st game, similar to when Anderson transferred from Maryland last season. Then he'll count towards the 2020 class.

It will take him time to get up to speed on the playbook so he's not going to just start over Hayes or Young. However, he'd be an invaluable 3rd corner since Tre Avery hasn't shown he can stay healthy.

It would also setup RU rather well the following season once Hayes graduates.

And their scholarship opportunities opened up due to RU players transferring out. It still looks like Ash still left himself with little wiggle room scholarship wise going into the summer.

It is relevant. Problem is not the WR and it is not the O-Line.
And the WR were not a problem last year? I don’t know what happened at IMG - our resident experts INSIST Sit lost his starting job to Annexstad because he got hurt, not because of performance issues.

When you’re 1-11, EVERYTHING is a problem, not fair to pin blame on one person, unless it’s the HC, though it’s convenient.

I hope so, but we might brush up against the 25 limit, as Dr Worm pointed out, but hopefully the coaches will figure something out.

There is no room in 2019, RU hit the hard cap of 25 with the transfers of Carter and the TE. He'd have to count against 2020's class similar to how Anderson was counted towards 2019.

You're the one not looking at stats - go check the oline stats last year. Oline is a perfect example of false narrative continuously being bandied around here.

Correct, our QBs were only hit 23 times in over 400 dropbacks and 10 of those times in one game(Indiana). How many times during games the message board and the RU broadcast team yell @ Artur about holding the ball to long? So much for the false narrative the OL being a turnstyle. It was the run blocking that had the poor performance # because of 8 and 9 in the box.

not the Oline? WTH?
You must watch another team or not look at NCAA stats..

There’s always a way. They can grey shirt or blue shirt, if they’re inclined to do so with freshman, as watts might be needed right away.

Not true. Artur got knocked into next year by parsons and landers in the PSU game

WRONG - secondary is teh best it's ever been since 2012 - another example of false narrative

Last seasons starting DB's were Tre & Bless & after one game we had a true freshman starting back there, you can never have too much depth!

That's fair. An injury here and there and things change. I don't disagree that if there is available ship we should get Watts. I am thrilled to have him. But he's not an auto starter as some here are saying to support their narrative that everything is bad with the team. If anybody wants to project doom and gloom, the secondary is not the position group to choose, IMHO.

Doesn't help against the 25 annual limit, which is the issue right now.
he committed here, then left for greener pastures, let him find another landing spot. we have to stop taking new jersey transfers who were recruited by RU and went elsewhere. We are noted for being the "fall back program" for disgruntled players

Fair enough.
Love the headline of that link:
Spring Game Shows an Improved Hokies Football Team

Always thought these games were nothing but glorified practices. How can you really see that much improvement with the strict rules in place that turn it into a flag game?

ROTFL

You are totally clueless. RU ranked #10 last year in the B1G in Pass Defense .
We lose our 2 best Secondary players due to Graduation in Wharton & Bless. { albeit Bless missed last season}. Plus we lose our best Safety in Saquan Hampton.
And our Secondary is the best since 2012 ? Based on what ? One Frosh who had a good season ? The crap some people post are a frick’n joke.
